  1. I was running 5rc2 and had cnib problems today, tried to sort via web and failed, so updated to latest rc6 beta, hoping it was a bug and had been resolved (maybe) Had I/O errors on drive 3 (hdb) which effectively failed. Although seemed fine before the update. Parity is showing green as well as other disks showing green. I rebooted ( ) and it said there was an unformatted drive. I formatted ... disk is red. I went to try and initiate rebuild from parity by deselecting and reselecting disk, but the disk show as 'Not present' even though the bios sees it and it previously formatted by unraid?? Can I still rebuild it from parity? If so what next please Log attached after reboot, sorry. syslog.txt.zip
  2. Hi Using b14 and the mover script won't transfer files from the cache drive to the array. I get this in the log; Mar 15 16:46:12 Tower emhttp: shcmd (80): crontab -c /etc/cron.d - <<< "# Generated mover schedule: 0 10 * * * /usr/local/sbin/mover |& logger" Mar 15 16:46:14 Tower emhttp: shcmd (81): /usr/local/sbin/mover |& logger & Mar 15 16:46:14 Tower logger: mover started Mar 15 16:46:14 Tower logger: skipping MyData/ Mar 15 16:46:14 Tower logger: skipping data/ Mar 15 16:46:14 Tower logger: mover finished Thanks for any ideas ..
  3. I've read in some older threads about getting rsync running on unraid, making it an rsync server for other clients. Do those hold true for getting rsync setup on v5 beta? Thanks
  4. 1. your disks never would need a jumper, since ONLY the EARS drives had that capability. 2. unless you have a "advanced format" drive that works best when its partition is aligned at a 4k boundary, there is no need to do anything. 3. To change the partition starting sector so that it is aligned with a 4k boundary (starting on sector 64 rather than 63) you must first delete the existing partition table. 1) Ok thanks, I must have read that wrongly from earlier threads on these drives. Np 2) They are advanced format drives 3) So just delete the partition table for that drive with dd? Thanks
  5. I have 4 WD15EADS-00P in a new array, with partition type set as 4k aligned and the disks have no jumpers. 3 disks say 4k aligned and one says unaligned How do I get the one disk aligned? thank in advance
  6. Ok thanks, so I guess I will get a good improvement for a cache drive sata 3 ssd at a later date then? Why is it sas drives are faster then when they are platter drives....
  7. Hi I am really missing something here I have added a sata 3 controller card (U3S6 x4) to my setup with a ST2000DL003 2tb drive and there is no difference in parity creation speed from a WD15EADS with sata 2 39,112 KB/sec Can someone shed some light on my stupidity please? Thanks
  8. Previously posted that I have dual Opteron rig (940) but nothing more, as I wasn't doing a full blown fault finding session, but rather as a newcomer to Unraid, trying to establish opinions whether as an order of magnitude my initial parity drive build speed was reasonable, before I spent more time trying to debug the issue (if there was actually an issue). Following that, we had the possibility of running a new version that didn't need the jumpers, so I decided to wait a little more. If I come back for support, I'll certainly post the full syslog and specs etc. Thanks
  9. then why not install it. I'm certain lime-tech will take you up on your offer at some point, if you still have the drives un-allocated. I understand. They ARE designed to be used by ANY OS, just install the jumper. some OS need it, some do not. You are being slightly stubborn. OK you are right, if that helps, the jumper is not meant to be a bypass to the new format for OS's that cannot use the drive natively, it is there purely so a user can choose which they prefer. I'm not trying to make this personal; so who knows if I am being stubborn or merely wanting, as a user, to maximise the disks as they were designed. Currently unraid is very slow with these disks and the jumpers do not appear to change that for me, after applying them and then removing and then applying again, RMAing one drive to WD etc etc; I was hoping to try a revised version that may have resolved my issue...
  10. I am not fully clear where I mentioned that I had an issue with the work involved in adding a jumper? :-/ I merely offered to test a limited version, that could not be used in full, to test if the changes gave significant improvements to EARS users. I personally don't buy £100 drives for them to run at a substandard rate; so am trying to establish the best route to utilise my 4 EARS drives. If these drives will not be utilised as they were designed by Unraid, then i guess I will use them elsewhere and wait to purchase new drives that Unraid can utilise as designed. Regards
  11. Seems likely that an update is 6 months away then if we are waiting to see what the other manufacturers do. Can you perhaps create a time expiring beta so I can at least try it? if I get some good results that may help to decide if its worthwhile or not...
  12. Disappointing. Hopefully your drives will arrive and further testing can be done.
  13. Releasing as a beta with the normal caveats would then allow it to be tested first, giving you more time to decide on the release pattern. Once the functionality is stable, then I am not sure of the reasons why you would need to go back (he says naively). Obviously users with mixed setups should perhaps wait until fully stable before upgrading or even jumpering the one drive, preclearing and adding that one drive to the array ... so I presume your new version would identify this drive as normal rather than advanced and would do nothing different...
  14. Firstly after a very hot day getting to work on the tube in London, you have made my day thanks for your efforts.. I can finally get my Unraid server going at last! So I have 4 ears drives with no data on them; so I can test whatever you need. Can i just remove the jumpers from the drives and use your latest test version and let it do the work? or do I need to do preclears? Thanks
  15. In my experience, if you have the bugged firmware then Unraid will not boot after you add the jumper. Mhh, ok so its booted with all 4 disks now with jumpers :-/ Not really sure if it has worked....parity is at 21,357 KB/sec
  16. not even close to being months away. no mention of it in anything lime-tech has posted. Install the jumper. Hope your drive has the firmware where it can be changed after the fact. If not, RMA it. Thanks Joe. Is there a quick test to check whether it will accept the change after the fact? purely by speed after adding the jumper? Cheers, thanks
  17. I'm about to setup a new system with these drives as I haven't done the jumper bit yet, after using the drives elsewhere... Question is; is the native version being tested so I can be a tester for the native, or is it months away and I should just mess with the jumpers and get it done now? Thanks in advance
  18. 4 x WD15EARS What write speeds are people getting, as a noob to unraid I have it running on a dual opteron rig (940) and am getting 23 kb/s writes which seems very slow. I have yet to tackle the jumber thing, but should I realistically expect more speed than I am getting for writing the parity data? (appreciate its dependent on a number of things, but ...) Thanks in advance
