  1. Hey Fellas! I got an Synology DS220+ and sold it and got older server Hardware cheap, as backup NAS actually. Now i am considering using this as primary and not buying the 223+ or 723+ when available. My rig: Mainboard Intel S1200KP CPU: Xeon 1225-V2 Ram: 2x4GB ECC Ram Moduls - considering to upgrade to 16 but this would add approx 50 bucks to the list. PSU: Upgraded to the actually only available SFX one currently: Fractal Design 450W SFX 80+ bronze. Unfortunately not gold or Platinum. Drives: 2X14TB HDD and I would like to mirror them; WD Red and Iron Wolf Pro. Additional I plan to update in the Pcie Slot a 2.5Gbit Network Adapter, hope it works. The other 2bays can be filled up with 2x 800GB Sata-Server SSDs as Cache (but the HDDs are fast enough for 2.5gbit) or with 2x smaller 128GB Sata SSD Drives which would actually be enough for caching. Since I use the Hard Drives for Video Editing and general backup (not on a daily base and not for professional purpose) they can sleep most of the time, so it would be nice to have one bay filled with an SSD which i can just use as a download pool. Never download anything to my desktop PC and use the NAS therefor. So 2x 14TB mirrored 1x Read Cache (or write?) and 1x SSD as Scratch Volume for Downloads and Daily Use, so that the hard drives can sleep. Budget: Open, what makes sense investing in older hardware Use: Some Apps, maybe Nextcloud and play with Docker in future or try VMs but nothing special or really necessary in terms of VMs. ECC Ram is important for me, cause I want to give my data (most vacation pics) the best protection possible- including opting for Btrfs as file system (or better ZFS?). Your thoughts? Thanks and appreciate! Merry Christmas! Raider3
