Disaster While Swapping Out Parity Drive
Thanks for the replies! I am working on getting my diagnostics now. For some reason it’s acting strange in that when I click download it starts going through looking pretty normal, and then it starts scrolling past something that looks suspiciously like it’s going through every single one of my files? Which just keeps going and going until the web page crashes and tells me it’s out of memory, and then when I refresh I have to start the process over again haha.. So I’m not sure what that’s about, maybe it has to do with one of my plugins? I’m working on it though! I will say though that sometime in the last couple hours, after it passed the 50% or so point where I don’t think there are any more files to be read, it has sped up significantly. It is no longer reading from all the drives like it was before. Now it is only reading from the other parity drive and going at closer to 175MB/s. It’s telling me I have about 8 hours left. Maybe one of my data drives is really slow and was bottlenecking everything? Thanks again for the help!

Disaster While Swapping Out Parity Drive
Ok I’ll try to keep this short, but I’m super nervous about this so hopefully I don’t ramble.. tl;dr at bottom. I’ve been slowly running out of space lately and have no more places to connect new drives so I finally decided I just need to start swapping drives out for bigger ones. So I bought a few 12TB drives to swap out some of my 4-8 TB ones, and I finally quit procrastinating and started that process today. So first of course I had to do the two parity drives, and currently the first one is about 23% done after 12 hours or so. Sometime in the last 30 minutes or so though, the green circle in my browser tab changed to a yellow triangle, so I took a look to see what was wrong, and of course, right now is when one of my data drives decided to die on me… I’m not sure exactly what I should do now.. and I had a few questions I’m hoping people can help me with. First is, can the second parity drive still build properly even though a drive is missing? I can’t think of a reason why it wouldn’t, but something about building a second parity drive off of the first one while still giving your system additional protection feels counterintuitive to me. Also, is it possible at all that the drive failing in the middle of the rebuild could have caused it to have errors? Am I going to wait for 2 days biting my fingernails only to find out that the parity rebuild failed? Second question I guess is just what should I do? Should I just let the parity drive finish and hope to God no other data drives break before then? I have the parity drive that I just replaced still attached to the system, should I attempt to rebuild the data drive onto that while the other is going too? Is that a bad idea to run more than one at the same time? I guess I’d have to stop this one and restart anyways though if I did that.. and that’s probably not worth it. Since the drive is still emulated though, I could try to move the data to a different drive? Or maybe to a backup hard drive or something? I’m not sure exactly how that helps me if another drive dies, but maybe it’s a good idea? I don’t want to put extra strain on the drives reading and writing a ton of stuff if it’s not worth it though, so I just can’t decide.. What do you guys think? What’s my best bet or safest practice in a situation like this? Ugh I joked that this would happen too but I didn’t actually think it would.. Thank you for any help or info! tl;dr: Data drive died while rebuilding my second parity drive. Terrified another drive will die before it finishes and I’m not sure what to do.

Issus with secondary NIC connection on 6.12
Thank you for the help! Sorry for the late reply. Yes, sorry, 169.254.94.175 is the address I gave it specifically, and the address I referred to by "the other one" haha. The other two computers on that network at similarly addressed. Also yes actually both of the other computers have 2 NICs each, all of them are 10Gb cards that are linked together, and then their other cards are all also linked together through the main 1Gb lan with their other cards. The two other machines on the 10Gb network are a Windows 10 and TrueNAS scale. I'm sure I can figure out the truenas diagnostics but is there a preferred way of getting network diagnostics from a Windows install? As far as I can tell though its only the Unraid server that's not connecting, I can still connect Truenas to my windows machine fine. And yeahh I definitely get that its not ideal haha, but I do like it for a couple reasons. I do actually have a 10Gb switch too, but its SFP/SFP+ only so I'd have to get some adapters to loop in the rest of my network. Also this way if its connecting through the 169.254 IP address, Its easy to be 100% sure at just a glance whether somethings going through at 10Gb/s or not, and I don't have to worry that its getting bottlenecked somewhere at my 1Gb router haha. I mean I'm sure there's another, better way to do it but its never given me much trouble until now. But I mean if you think it could help, I could try hooking them all into the same network? If its something wrong in between the NIC and unraid though I'd expect that nothing would even make it that far out, but I really don't know haha. Now that I think about it the 10Gb switch does have routerOS though, which I do not know how to use very well haha, but I might be able to at least find out if its showing up there or something. I'll take a look at it! Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate it!

Oh right! Sorry about that! These are the diagnostics files that were downloaded when I reverted back to rc6. holodeck-diagnostics-20230616-2014.zip As for the NIC, it says its an "Intel 82599EN"? Its this one on amazon: https://a.co/d/433FhSw If it was a driver issue would it give me some sort of error or something? As far as I can tell unraid thinks everything is fine, its just not haha. Thanks again!

Issus with secondary NIC connection on 6.12
So I have my unraid server connected to two different networks through separate NICs; one is just connected to my regular house router and the internet, and the other is connected directly to my other server and my main computer through an SFP+ card. So on my main computer I can connected to it through the ip address assigned by my router, or I can get the faster speeds by connecting through the other ip address through the fiber connection. Everything has been working perfectly up through 6.12.0-rc6, but then on rc7 the second connection suddenly stopped working. I figured it might be fixed before the release so I just restored back to rc6 and everything was fine again. However, the problem was there again for rc8 and now it appears to still be an issue on the official release. I can still connect to my server through the router-assigned ip, but I can't get a connection through the other one, which is the one I have all my network drives mapped to. As far I as I can tell from the dashboard though I can't find any indication that there is something wrong though, and since it was working all the way up through rc6 I'm not quite sure what I need to do in order to get it working again. Any ideas? I hope this isn't duplicated somewhere, I did some searching through the forums but was unable to find anything that seemed similar yet. Thanks for the help!

Unraid 6.10.0-rc2 - Any way to pass through raw disk serial/or id to VM instead of it just showing up as QM0001 etc
Ohh perfect! Thanks so much! That was actually my initial thought but then when I went to do it all the other parameters were inside the < >, so I second guessed myself and didn't want to screw things up haha. Thank you! Oh and I didn't even think to check the gui! Thanks so much! EDIT: Oh apparently I'm still on 6.11 haha

I'm having a similar issue but I can't find the post your referencing anywhere. Can you tell me exactly how you typed it into the xml to let you give the disks a serial number? Thanks a lot!
