  1. Uh... how do I "point the JAVA search path"...? I realize that I had to "point" or "set" some variable path but the "doing" has me stumped and Googling didn't really help me much as their was no clear-cut instrux on exactly step-by-step how to do this. Yea, I saw the script and I tried running it too, but I get errors about QXPScriptingAdditions not available or found and I still get the error when trying to get the "KVM Console" to actually launch (I can run IPView.jar just fine). Are are you referring to logging onto the IPMI side of the board via web browser and launching either Console Redirection or SOL, which attempts to load a Java applet? If so, the Console Redirection launch button does nothing (Windows XP/7 nor OS X) and for SOL the Launch button in OS X it tells me to "upgrade to the latest Java runtime environment" (which I have the latest) while on the Windows side it launches a black console with flashing cursor that doesn't respond to anything :-( FYI, on the Windows side, I run the Windows-specific IPView application, not the Java-based one, and it works just fine. But I natively run OS X and don't want to launch my Windows virtualization just to control my UnRAID box, which is why I'm trying to get the Java based version of IPView (specifically the KVM Console, iKVM.jar) to work.
  2. My question now is: Has anyone gotten the JAVA version of IPView to work, specifically, the KVM Console? I get an error "no iKVM32 in java.library.path" From my research, it's telling me that the file iKVM32.so (UNIX) or iKVM32.dll (Windows) is not available in a library path. I'm on OS X so I don't find an iKVM32.so file (there is an libiKVM32.so file), tho I do find a .dll file. You can tell I'm a n00b to Java EDIT: Speaking of updating FW, have you updated your BIOS? Newest is 1.0c and I have 1.0b. My BIOS tends to randomly not respond to keyboard on me when I'm accessing it so I'm thinking of updating it, however, I have no floppy, no CD drive. The manual says it can be flashed from a bootable USB device (e.g. Flash Drive) but have you actually updated BIOS under UnRAID?
  3. Yea, I really am DUMB. There it was sitting in my face on the left hand side when I clicked on IPMI resources. The page it brought me to looked more like a "white paper" that I really didn't bother scouring the entire page for the valuable links I was looking for. I'm getting too old for this sh***tuff.
  4. You know, I posted in these forums because I had faith I would get an answer here (I shot off an e-mail to SM just before I posted here, and of course I get an immediate satisfaction here versus no response so far from SM). I searched Supermicro's website to no avail. I even typed in IPMI in their search window and nothing about getting started, what was needed nor where to go or download anything, including manuals. There was a bunch of FAQ and customer questions listed, but nothing on getting started. The mobo manual didn't mention anything about setting up IPMI (just a brief mention of it being included in the spec summary). I'm grateful for the assist and I now have IPView up and running in my VMWare virtualization running on OS X! After playing with it for a bit, it truly is a marvelous feature to have! Thanks again!
  5. Yea, all transfers complete, parity drive installed and building parity-sync as I type. The only thing left is to await my AOC-SASLP-MV8 board so I can install the final 7th empty drive and I can button 'er up!
  6. Okay, I'm not at all familiar with IPMI, but this feature is THE reason I bought this board so I can operate my UnRAID media server in its AV rack remotely from my laptop if need be. But I've tried under both Windows 7 32-bit and Windows XP SP3 32-bit (it definitely does NOT work with OS X and it keeps telling me to upgrade to the latest Java runtime but I already have), logging into IPMI via a web browser, but when I try to launch Console Redirection, nothing happens. When I launch SOL, the Java applet runs, puts up a black "console" window and flashing cursor, but I can't do a darn thing with it; it doesn't respond to any keys nor mouse clicks (haven't tried messing with the baud rate, which is set at the highest). The ONLY time it seemed to work for a little bit was when I had the Java applet running, I rebooted the server via the UnRAID web GUI, THEN the actual boot output started displaying in the console... until the UnRAID splash screen came up, that's when the remote console screen went blank and nothing else ever appeared again. The End. Every post I read here about KVM over IP on this mobo is nothing but frothing on the mouth in love with it. Maybe I'm a dummy, but I think there maybe is more to this than what I could research (which I came up with diddly) :-(
  7. No, not a loose cable as I changed power and SATA plug from another port (using the cables from the other port) and it still got errors. NOW the WEIRD thing. I thought perhaps when I reformatted under OS X that I did a GUID partition map vs Apple Partition Map (which I had done to all my other cross-platform usage drives). So I did another reformat to APM HFS+, put it back into the UnRAID box, re-added it under the device tab and try to start the array... but it waits a little then dumps me back into the START button, even though it says the configuration is valid. Huh? EDIT: OKAY SUCCESS! But after freakin' from the above, I ran the INITCONFIG, unassigned the questionable drive, and was able to start the array. Whew! Next step, re-add the drive to the array and it shows up unformatted! Yippee! The final test, hit the format button, sacrifice a chicken feather, cross my fingers... Viola! No errors and full array is up! I'm sure this drive is okay as its a couple months old and had no previous problems, and I did things incorrectly when adding this drive unlike the previous 4 drives. I have one last drive to transfer, so after verifying the copied files to this, I will finally put in the parity and be more at peace once that is fully built.
  8. I bought 3 extra 2TB drives but I have 5 2TB drives of data to move over. Two of those are DVD rips of my 700 DVD collection, so I was willing to accept the risk of losing that data as I could eventually recreate them (after much painful and lengthy re-ripping!) if need be! It's all about balancing risk with cost and time when conducting an Operational Risk Management assessment...
  9. Ah, okay, I'm running the latest 4.5.4! Before reading this post, I simply put in my BASIC flash drive, detached all other hard drives, booted up and am doing a SMARTCTL on it as I right this. It just finished with no errors. I'm now about to run the preclear script to see if this fixes it... EDIT: I checked the syslog after boot and didn't find any errors shown regarding the drive in question. The error I got was from web GUI when I tried formatting it, when ready it showed it still unformatted with 2 errors. Do I check the syslog after that for the type of errors encountered during the formatting? I really don't want to wait through a day of "pre-clearing" this possible-easy-to-fix drive. FYI: it was formally an -EARS HFS+ formatted drive that I added to the array, formatted via UnRAID, then realized I didn't jumper 7-8, so shut down, jumpered, formatted under OS X as HFS+ (in an attempt to force UnRAID to show it as needing to be reformatted) then re-installed into the box. Now I'm getting the 2 errors... All my other -EARS drive I jumpered prior to adding to the array and formatting.
  10. I came across a possible bad drive during my initial population of the array, so I had not yet installed the parity drive. Luckily, the drive was empty and I was just adding it to the array and formatting when UnRAID came across 2 errors. The problem is that I can't "remove" the drive from the array as UnRAID keeps telling me it's "not present" and still lists the drive SN as part of the array even though I "unassigned" it on the devices tab. Since I have not yet finished the array and therefore have not installed a parity drive, there is no "Restore" button. What do I do now?
  11. Received my PRO flash yesterday, swapped it in as-is and booted up as a "new" install. I added the existing drives to the array and all contents were preserved! Whew!
  12. Hi Joe! I have to thank you for the original post from WAAAY back when (2008) that I have used and works perfectly to transfer an HFS+ formatted drive that I physically installed into the UnRAID box but did NOT add it to the array via web GUI. I simply used the console to mount and copy the contents of said drive to an existing drive in the array that was properly added and formatted via UnRAID web GUI. When a full copy is finished and verified, I then go into the UnRAID web GUI and formally "add" the original source disk into the array and then have it formatted to ReiserFS. So far, it was worked perfectly and I'm on my second drive in this process. So I'm not sure what exactly you were referring to or what context your reply above applies to. Or did I just do something completely wacko and lost all hope of making it with the girl next door, even though all the target files I've checked were perfect working copies? EDIT: FYI, I don't have a parity drive enabled since this is my initial population of the array. Once that is done, I will add the parity drive.
  13. Hmmm... That looks promising! But before I read your post, I found this old post: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?action=printpage;topic=1914.0 It looks like HFS+ READ is now built-in to UnRAID out of the box. I tested it by stopping my current transfer, shutting down, installing an HFS+ drive and booting up. Created a mount point (mkdr) then mounted the HFS+ drive, partition 1 to that using: mount -w -t hfsplus /dev/<devid> <mntpoint> I had first determined the <devid> and partition by listing: ls -l /dev/disk/by-id I was able to verify the directory contents before resuming my initial SMB transfer since there too many folders and files to deal with and it's only several more hours to complete. But once that is done, I will install the original source 2TB into the UnRAID box, reformat, then do a copy with "cp" in Linux from the next HFS+ drive and see how that goes! If that doesn't work out, then I will definitely try the hfsutils that you pointed out. Tanks!
  14. Well I disabled my internal speaker since my UnRAID media server rig is situated in my A/V rack next to my Plasma and was making too many "unnecessary" beeps just during startup/shutdown alone. You don't happen to recall the name of the addon or where to get it by chance?
  15. n00b alert! I searched in vain (or perhaps I missed it in the hours spent reading and learning about UnRAID) but have not been able to find the answer. What mechanism does UnRAID use to alert when a drive fails? Do I have to periodically run disk checks manually myself or is there some nightly automated way to do that? Does it highlight/flash something on the web GUI, meaning I have to periodically check the web GUI (what about when I'm "out of pocket" of the server)? Or is there some automated routine that can, say send an e-mail? TIA!
  16. n00b in the house here as well, Mac-head to boot! I put together my UnRAID using a Supermicro X7SPA-HF board, 4GB sticks and got it up and running on BASIC with no problems! I was able to make the UnRAID flash drive under Windows 7 32-bit in Boot Camp on my laptop also with no problems (ensuring I ran the CMD prompt as Administrator, then executing syslinux.exe inside that). I have 8 drives lined up, but my PRO version is still "in the mail" so that's why I'm running BASIC at the moment. Unfortunately, all 8TB of my data is stored on HFS+ drives, so I'm doing the dreadfully-slow-shoot-me-before-its-over network copy via SMB :-( What I may do after my first 2TB copy is done is format that free 2TB as NTFS, copy another HFS+ 2TB to it, then move the loaded NTFS to the UnRAID box and "cp" the files to a freshly formatted Reiser 2TB. While the UnRAID is doing it's internal shuffle, I'll repeat with another pair of 2TB drives, copying HFS+ to NTFS, and so forth...
  17. I don't care about the actual UnRAID settings, just the raw data on the hard drives. No parity drive enabled as I have 8TB to transfer. Do I still need to copy the config folder?
  18. nOOb alert... (you have been warned) Okay, I ordered my PRO UnRAID Flash drive yesterday but all my hardware arrived today. I hammered everything together and I downloaded the BASIC version, pureed it onto a spare flash drive and now have 4.5.4 BASIC running and have formatted two drives. QUESTION: If I start populating these drives now, can I simply swap flash drives, boot up the PRO and all data will be in place ready to continue my transfer process? TIA!
