lirc is supported in xbmc.

Yes very true. I'm just thinking the chances of loosing my data drive and my parity drive are slim as it is, but to loose both of my data drives and the pairty are even slimmer.

Does anybody see any problems with purposely having a drive or two in the array that has the same data on it for an internal backup? Meaning something of the sort like this.
Disk1 Movies - Share Name Movies
Disk2 Tv shows - Share Name Tv
Disk3 Mp3 - Share name Mp3
Disk4 Private files - Share Name -Misc
Disk5 Private files(Copy from Disk4) - Share Name Misc-copy
My thought is if I loose disk4 for any reason I can easily rebuild with the parity, but if I had a failure beyond Disk4 and the pairty at the sametime I would at least have a copy.
The only thing I can think of is the system would note that there are files of the samething. Could use use different shares to get around?
My thought process was to reduce having 2 servers and dupicate what I have internally if/when it made sense.
Thoughts, Problems?

When my machine was not completely put together I had a 80 or so mm fan laying around and I plugged it into one of the molex plugs and placed it on my parity drive because I knew it would get hot. 82C not even close.

I have one of the budget builds. Works great for my needs.

Glad my Taxes are at work.

Thats why I always PM you my silly Questions because I know you will shoot em back fast. LOL

If I recall the Zotac is kinda the same form factor as my AsRock ION. With the TV off and not a sound in the living room I can barely hear the fan running from 6 feet away. Sometimes you hear a hard drive sound, but then again its only when the room is dead quite.
With the TV on and any audio what-so-ever I can't hear a thing. I've put mine in a entertainment system that has a mesh grill across the front, which allows air flow to all of my equipment with an open back and with that I don't hear a thing.

I personally found after tinkering with it a while was to copy things directly over to Disk1 and leave my shares as "read only".
As Disk1 fills I planned on starting to fill Disk4 and as long as I have the same base folders then disk sharing should see it and display them in my HTPC.

I had 2 IDE drives and a Sata drive installed in a test box. Yes you read right 2 IDE's of different sizes and a Sata drive installed and I used one of the home brew scripts here that Joe L put together that does some rather extensive testing on a drive before it is considered safe to use in the Array.
Anyways I had a drive that was tested and didn't fair to well. I knew it was short lived, but I went with it anyways. I loaded up a movie on the drive and of course pairity was built. I then installed unMENU with the email plugin.
Of course I expected the drive to die and sure enough I received an email from the machine telling me the drive had issues. I removed the drive and installed a new drive. This time I replaced the IDE with a Sata drive and it took a while to rebuild. The array came backup and I attempted to access the movie that I created a short cut on my desktop. Sure enough the movie fired right up as if it never went anywhere.
Sure it wasn't gigs or terabytes of data for my little test. As soon as that happened I was sold on the idea of this system and have since purchased a Pro license and have 4 Data drives + parity and growing.
If the system doesn't 100% sell it by its self. The support here on the forum should/would/and will.

What blew me away was the two YouTube build videos. Step by step.
-
What always confuses me is does the Share start at 0 or does it start at 1. Meaning would you actually use 3?
-
I have the AsRock ION 330 and love the optical out. Wifi for me was kinda useless and I'm glad it didn't come with it simply because I was planning on going wired anyways.
I personally think you made the right move picking up the Zotac

I saw this and thought it was rather rough, but at the same time rather slick in the end result.

I thought the filter was a good idea of course as long as its easy to remove otherwise nothing like a clogged filter making your PC run hot.

I'm pretty sure each drive has its recommended Operating temp from the factory. So I guess it would depend on the drive.
However 82 does seem rather hot. I think one of the settings in one of the plugins there is a shut down for 40C.
You sure thats correct for the reading? You sure your not thinking 82F vs 82C

Yeah I normally see around 18-35MB with the EARS drive. I guess it depends on the phase of the moon and the tide for my changes of speed.
I can't hear it making a noise, which really is awesome

Pass.

Well I personally did the following.
I use Disk Shares and User Shares.
User Shares are Read only
Movies
TV
MP3
MISC
I use XBMC so I keep my files orginized in a way so they are scanned the way I want them when I want them.
Disk Shares are hidden Read/Write
disk1 - Movie share disk1 only
ISO - for disk images
720 - lower quality rips
480 - Dvds that have been converted from ISO images
Uploads - Files that I move and haven't put them where I want them
disk2 - TV share - All my tv shows go here disk2 only
Shows
- BatttleStar Galactica
--Season 1
---Files
Uploads - Shows that are put here and yet haven't been orginized
disk3 - MP3 - disk3 only
A
-Aero Smith
--Pump
B
C
D
E
F
.
.
.
.
.
Z
disk4 - MISC disk4 only
this is the drive that I put my various files on
Not yet allocated for much
disk5
disk6
Of course my collection isn't as large as others, but as my collection grows I will allocated disk5 and disk6 to each share when they are needed.

Just sent you a PM. Basically its a way so you can access files, but I"m going to give you limited access so you can upload/download files. Obviously there is more that you can do, but I can't give you admin access because well then you would have admin access. LOL
I don't know of anyway to give unRAID access. I know there is a SMB hack you can do so maybe you can do it via it some how.

I have it and well lets just say its cool, but I've been having more fun with DropBox.
Pogoplug allows you to plug in any USB Storage device, which more or less is 4 USB ports. You can then install hubs if you wish to allow for more devices.
You can then share your data with others via the plug and they can share their devices with you. Would be a pretty simple P2P sharing if you really wanted to use it for that.
What I don't like about the pogoplug. This from my limited experience so please don't take it as the word.
Ive been asking for features like the ability to track who has connected and what did they download. They say it can not be done. Magically they release a new pogoplug for business that does allow it and they charge $100 more for it. I mean come on either give your users what they want or do not. Do not insult them with putting out new devices that cost them more money and slap them in the face for it when it more or less is the same thing.
I do like the fact that you can install windows software on your Laptop that would give you a P drive and then from there no matter where you are you still have your P drive that is a virtual link to your PogoPlug no matter where you are. I live in the US and I was sharing photos from my pogoplug while I was in Canada on vacation.
I can give somebody limited access to mine if they kinda want to play on it a little bit. Call it a live demo if you must. Just shot me a PM.

Not me. LOL

Is there any Transmission builds floating around that would work on 4.5.6?
Sorry I didn't notice what section this was in when I did a search. My intentions isn't to muddle up the 5.0 area.

Honestly I don't recal why I had such issues. I guess after trying it a few times it finally worked and I more or less moved on. I don't think it's a wiki issue I think in my case it might of been Operator Error, but then again that was a couple of months ago.
pogoplug ------ looks a lot better than Dropbox

Tinkering around they have an entire Linux section for PogoPlug. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking I might tinker some and see if I can copy files to/from pogo and backup to my unRAID.
My thinking it would be really cool to take photos and use my Android phone to upload them and then havde them backed up on my unRAID.
Well its an idea of course.
