  4. Hi PhilUK, As RobJ pointed out in a different thread on this topic: As the number of drives increased in the array, Tom thought about introducing "Ultimate", but that many tiers rubbed him the wrong way, so he just kept on extending Pro for the same price. So, some may think that they are paying for wasted slots, but the fact is that Tom never increased the price or created Ultimate. He and I discussed this about two weeks ago and everything is staying the same. TomH
  5. Recognizing that a Pro key would be required to support all the case drive slots, we've decided to offer a single 8GB USB2.0 pre-configured Flash with a Pro key with the D-316M server case for a special price of $59 (instead of $139, $80 off). We've added this to the options under the server case http://lime-technology.com/components/. TomH
  6. TomM and I had a chance to discuss the license options today. As RobJ pointed out, as the number of drives increased in the array, Tom thought about introducing "Ultimate", but that many tiers rubbed him the wrong way, so he just kept on extending Pro for the same price. So, some may think that they are paying for wasted slots, but the fact is that Tom never increased the price or created Ultimate. Recognizing that a Pro Key would be required to support all the case drive slots, we've decided to offer a single 8GB USB2.0 preconfigured flash device with unRAID Server Pro key with the D-316M server case for a special price of $59 (instead of $139, $80 off). We've already added this to the server case options. TomH
  7. As suspected...Tom released 5.0 so he can take a vacation! Unfortunately not. He's on a burn-out drive to collect some furniture from his dad's house, which the family is selling as his dad passed away several months ago.
  8. We've recently had discounts on the server case used for the AVS-10/4, but I'm not aware of any plans to re-offer a discount on the unRAID software license. TomM and I are planning to review the license structure next week as a few people wanted something in between the Plus and the Pro. TomH
  9. I recently added an Ordering FAQ section for the AVS-10/4. There's a table there, but the text reads "For most applications, we recommend the Intel Atom, which uses the least power and is perfect for archiving as well as using as a media server (e.g., streaming movies to your TV). If you need the ability to adapt digital files so they can be viewed on different playback devices (transcoding on the fly), the Core i-3 and Xeon have the performance necessary. Finally, if you want all of the above, plus virtualization (providing access to many users at once with different platforms), we recommend the Xeon." TomH
  10. TomM won't be able to chime in on this discussion until early next week, but I've been noting all of the recent license discussions/requests so he and I can review when he gets back. Thanks. TomH
  11. You buy a pro license. Yes, but the OP concerns still ring true. Plus = 6 Pro = 24 10 or 14 are still more than 6, but significantly less than 24. A huge gap and waste of 14-10 drive slots. Would it make you feel better if the Pro license was restricted to 14 slots, and a new Ultimate license level was introduced with no drive restrictions other than what the software could currently support? If so, how much more would you be willing to pay for this Ultimate license? In the past, the Pro license has expanded slots, without changing how much it costs. Perhaps that was a bad business decision? Tom and I will have a discussion about this soon. As itimpi pointed out, administration of the licenses can be a challenge. I proposed to Tom that we have some special pricing for those who buy the case. I will update you as soon as we've discussed and decided what to do to accommodate the various license requests we've had. Thanks. -TomH
  12. Tom is a smart guy, i'm sure he did some QA/QC on these, specifically with HDD temps considering the important of these devices for UNRaid The 3.5” drive cages have two fan settings: low and high. We ship servers with fans set to “low” and the drives remain cool. If your ambient temps are higher or all your drives are constantly being accessed then perhaps you would want to move the DIP switch on the back of the cages to the “high” position. The 2.5” bays do not have a fan, however they are made of aluminum and have excellent thermal dissipation properties. Use with laptop or SSD devices should not be a problem. TomH
  13. Not much I can tell you, other than Tom is under a lot of pressure and working really hard to get 5.0 out. He prefers to provide these updates himself and I would just ask for your continued patience. Thanks, TomH
  14. Several of you were interested in ordering the server case we had custom built by iStarUSA for our AVS-10/4 Mass-Storage Server, so we posted a new ordering page for this today. http://lime-technology.com/components/ There are also two add-on options: Option 1: Installing two 3.5" to 2 x 2.5" drive cages Option 2: Installing two additional 60mmPWM thermally-controlled case fans -TomH
  15. Harmser hasn't posted anything in over two weeks. Seems like he's quickly learned how things usually work around here. That, or maybe we scared him off. I pictured a mouse being thrown into a room full of hungry cats. Still here guys. Sorry, been busy keeping Tom's ass in line. Seriously though, as long as TomM is posting and keeping everyone up-to-date, there's nothing I can add to the discussion. I'm doing a lot of work behind the scenes that you won't notice for a while (PR plan, marketing plan, etc.).
  16. Thanks for the welcome and for all your words of advice. Point of clarification: Some of you were confused about c). I am not focusing on the technical side of the business, but a goal is to "help Tom" do this (yeah, I could have worded this better).

  18. Hi All, My name is Tom Harms (Tom#2) and I just wanted to introduce myself as a new member to the LimeTech family. Tom #1 brought me on board to be director of marketing and business development, with focus areas to include the website and forum. I joined a couple of weeks ago and am in ramp-up mode in all areas of the business. I am definitely not a clone of Tom#1 and won't be able to address technical questions, but a few of my goals with respect to the forum is to help Tom: a) be aware of and track issues and opportunities that the moderators and I notice from the forum; b) provide more regular updates (yeah, I know this has been a big issue for many of you); c) focus on the technical side of the business. Prior to joining LimeTech, I spent most of my career at Hewlett-Packard where I held a variety of marketing and management positions. In my last role at HP, I worked for the Global Marketing Organization as a Social Media Manager. In this role, I managed our 3rd-party social media community platform (Lithium) as well as a team that launched new forums and blogs. I am very excited to join Tom#1 in his endeavor to provide a innovative, cost-effective mass-storage solutions. If you want to reach me directly, just send an e-mail to [email protected]. Cheers, Tom#2
  19. Tom is planning to offer the AVS-10/4 server case. It will include the complete case with all drive bays and case fans, but no power supply or motherboard. Tom#2
