[RESOLVED] Tailscale Active But Can't Access Samba Shares
Hi All, Goal: To access samba shares remotely, mostly in order to be able to watch media no matter where I'm at. Summary: I have tailscale up and running but I cannot access SMB shares (on laptop or Android phone, both confirmed to have tailscale working) How Do I Know TailScale is Up: I can access unRAID login page remotely without issue using Tailscale IP. Samba Error: When I try to access SMB shares using Dolpin file manager I get "could not connect to host using smb://100.xx.xxx.xx/Share, same type of error on file browser on phone. I'm using my username and password from unRAID. What I've Tried: (1) Enabling subnet (192.168.0.0/24) - didn't think this was necessary but tried; (2) Enabling Exit Node - didn't think this was necessary but tried. I've watched too many YouTube tutorials to remember and none have just the simple task of accessing a samba share remotely (they're all usually about accessing containers remotely, which, cool, but, not my need at the moment).

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
Ok I'm hitting a roadblock that I feel like I need some advice. Tailscale is installed both on my Android device and my unRaid server I am able to access the login page for unRaid remotely using the tailscale IP address Problem: When I try to access my share ("MyMedia") using an Android file browser that allows SMB access, I get errors about not being able to connect. I then went and added subnet (for time being): 192.168.0.0/24 to my tailscale settings to see if I needed to advertise that subnet to have access to my share. That didn't resolve anything. Help appreciated, I feel like I'm close but missing one step that I can't figure out.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
My plan is to just have a separate VPN user in Kodi so I don't have to mess with the backend SQL db in my home. I think I can have a separate user and have a local configuration that points to a mounted folder (pointing to unraid server). I have tailscale installed now but am having a hard time accessing my media share (from my phone, remotely). Trying to resolve that now. I can access the unRaid login page successfully so I know tailscale is up and running, just not having any luck accessing my media shares.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
Appreciate the time you took to explain this. On my to do to try to set this up this weekend. Big difference on my side is I'm completely running Linux but, that shouldn't be an issue. Looks totally manageable.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
Looking at it, how does that functionally play out for you? You can navigate to your shared folders with your file browser remotely and then play media? A webUI that you access? Just curious what the final product looks like.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
I should probably say, I prefer not downloading locally before playing but if that's all I can do, I'll survive.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
Media mostly. Locally I use Kodi for everything for frontend, but remotely, happy to basically use whatever will be functional. Looks like WireGuard plays nice with CloudFlare, I'm even willing to just download stuff if I'm remote, so long as I can access.

Older Server - Remote Access to Content
Hi All, What should I be looking at to gain remote access to my shared folders? The easiest option would be for me to share via my CloudFlare setup but I'm not sure if that's possible. Any guidance appreciated as it's been on my to do list for years and just haven't gotten around to it. I don't need something that looks incredible, just simple access as it's not often that I need/want to access remotely but when I do, it's frustrating that I can't. Thanks!

Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array
Hi All - I had a working setup where I had 3 external drives mounted to my server with UD and that were being shared successfully over netowork (SMB and NFS). Something changed and now I can not mount the UD devices on my *nix (Manjaro) machine. I have fully explained the situation here: I was directed there to come over here with my question. Any help appreciated as my system is severely handicapped right now.

Unassigned Devices - Shares No Longer Working
Hi All, This is related to another post that I recently created and got no traction in. I've narrowed down the problem to unassigned devices. I can't get my shares to work at all for unassigned devices (they work fine for my general array). My setup is reasonably straight forward and had been working fine within the last month or so: On my client I even try to run a basic mount command: /etc/systemd/system sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.0.245:/mnt/disks/Expansion1 /mnt/Tower/Expansion1 ✔ [sudo] password for joel: Created symlink '/run/systemd/system/remote-fs.target.wants/rpc-statd.service' → '/usr/lib/systemd/system/rpc-statd.service'. mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.0.245:/mnt/disks/Expansion1 Interestingly enough, if I navigate via my client's file browser (Dolphin) via the following: Network -> Shared Folders (SMB) -> I see the drives fine and can access them. I then tried to mount via cifs instead: /etc/systemd/system sudo mount -t cifs 192.168.0.245:/mnt/disks/Expansion1 /shares/unraid/Expansion1/ mount.cifs: bad UNC (192.168.0.245:/mnt/disks/Expansion1) In looking at my exports in unraid....I don't see the external listed (not sure if this is expected as unassigned devices handles the shares in a weird way outside of the primary system distro) root@Tower:~# cat /etc/exports # See exports(5) for a description. # This file contains a list of all directories exported to other computers. # It is used by rpc.nfsd and rpc.mountd. "/mnt/user/Media" -fsid=100,async,no_subtree_check *(rw,sec=sys,insecure,anongid=100,anonuid=99,all_squash)

Unable to Mount Unraid External Shares to Linux System
Hi All, I had this working flawlessly and then....no idea what broke. But here's what I have. Unraid setup: External hard drive mounted to /mnt/disks/Expansion1 Shares are enabled (I even disabled and then enabled again) Local Laptop Manjaro Linux systemd configuration Mount file [Unit] Description=Media folder mounted via NFS from Tower unRaid. After=network.target [Mount] What=192.168.0.245:/mnt/disks/Expansion1 Where=/mnt/Tower/Expansion1 Type=nfs Options=_netdev,auto WantedBy=multi-user.target automount file [Unit] Description=Automount Media mount from unRaid tower ConditionPathExists=/mnt/Tower/Expansion1 [Automount] Where=/mnt/Tower/Expansion1 TimeoutIdleSec=20 [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target running: sudo systemctl enable --now mnt-Tower-Expansion2.automount No errors at all, but doesn't mount. I have a nearly identical setup for my internal array in unraid and it works great....

External Drives Added to Array?
Gotcha. This makes sense. I was hoping to get the benefit of the parity drive with my externals but that seems unwise with this information.

External Drives Added to Array?
Hi All, I always thought it was impossible to add an external drive (USB) to an array but now I'm seeing that it is possible but not recommended. Other than performance concerns, are there additional concerns about adding an external to an array? Thanks!

Correct Way to Upgrade After Disk Failure
Some warnings but these drives are ancient. It's truly incredible they've lasted this long. Luckily, I just got notice that two drives will be here tomorrow so I basically need 24 more hours.

Correct Way to Upgrade After Disk Failure
Hi All, I have a 5 disk (4+1 parity) setup in my unraid box. Disk 1 just failed. I've purchased two new drives (larger so upgrading parity + the failed disk). What's the correct way to do this? I'm imaging I replace disk 1 first, let the parity setup write to it, then replace the parity one so that I can fully utilize the space from disk 1's increase? That's the only thing that makes logical sense but want to confirm. Crossing fingers my other drives last 4 days Thanks!

Unassigned Devices - Backup from one external to another?
Ok I see what I was doing wrong. Problem solved. Thank you both.

Unassigned Devices - Backup from one external to another?
No luck. When I open Lucky Backup UI and point to /mnt, all I see inside is /mnt/users, I don't see /mnt/disks at all.

Unassigned Devices - Backup from one external to another?
Hi All - I have two external hard drives connected to my server that work well with unassigned devices. I just set up NextCloud and am now looking at how to backup from one of these drives to another. Thought Lucky Backup might do the trick but unfortunately it doesn't see the mounts (I don't even know how that's possible to be honest). Drives are mounted to /mnt/disks/Expansion1 /mnt/disks/Expansion2 I have a folder in /mnt/disks/Expansion1 with my Music "Music" (/mnt/disks/Expansion1/Music), I'd like to have this back up regularly to /mnt/disks/Expansion2. I'd like versioning possibility also but I don't know if that's asking for too much. This is one of many folders I'll be doing this with so trying to get a feel for what's possible. Thanks in advance.

Private NFS Share
Sorry I'm going to have the get baby steps through here. What's the rule you're referencing? I do use Unassigned Devices, I'm not mounting to unraid, I'm using unraid as the server and mounting on several Linux clients (mostly laptops). As for mount point, it works for me so I'm not going to be worried about that. Thanks though!

Private NFS Share
Hi All, It's been a long time since I've used NFS and I'm struggling a bit to remember exactly how to make private NFS shares work. Currently, I can mount the NFS fine on my *nix client when I leave the option as "public" on my unraid server. When I switch it to "private", I get the following error: mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.0.245:Backup mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting 192.168.0.245:Backup I'm mounting using this command: sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.0.245:Backup /mnt/Backup I have the same username with identical UID on server and client. I have different passwords (not sure if that matters). Any help appreciated.

Unassigned Devices - Can Mount via CIFS but not NFS
Hi All - I am diving into the world of Next Cloud and need to be able to mount my unraid unassigned devices to my system running Next Cloud. Ideally, I'll be doing this via NFS, not CIFS. That being said, I have the toggle on to share an unassigned device. I can successfully share via cifs using this command on client: sudo mount -t cifs -o username=joel //192.168.0.245/WCT023Q9 /mnt/Tower My understanding is that the toggle shares via NFS and CIFS, unfortunately this command fails: sudo mount -t nfs 192.168.0.245:/WCT023Q9 /mnt/Backup It's been a bit since I've used nfs shares but googling a bit, I don't see any user options needed to be entered. Appreciate any help that you all can provide.

Items Not Visible in One Share But Visible in Another
Hi All - Honestly not sure if this is an unraid problem or a Kodi problem but I figured I'd start here. Folder Structure is: ./Media/TV_Shows/ ./Media/MOVIES I'm sharing at the "Media" level so the share settings are identical for both TV_Shows and MOVIES as they are just subdirectories of the higher level share. Summary: I had a media file that I moved from my Windows11 machine to a specific share that is visible (on multiple machines/clients). When I then tried to access the media from within Kodi (which sees the overall share fine and has consistently worked fine) the file is not visible. When I navigate (via samba) within Kodi I'm not seeing the new file. If I ssh into unraid and navigate to the folder, I see the file fine. I can also see it from within Windows and Linux file browsers using both samba and ssh protocol. If I move the item out of MOVIES and into TV_SHOWS/ (or any sub-directory there-in) I see the media fine and can play it from within any client (Kodi or otherwise), but, as soon as I move it back into MOVIES it disappears. Thoughts appreciated as this is driving me insane.
