  1. Anyone know what would be the procedure to flash an IBM M1015 that was flashed successfully to FW19.00.00 Bios 7.37.00, under the X9SCM-F to an older firmware/bios?  I tried just doing the

    sas2flsh -o -f 2118it.bin -b mptsas2.rom

But i get an error that its an older version, and cant do it.  So in the state that my M1015 is already on IT mode with newer bios and firmware, what would be the correct procedure? like the beggining?

    megarec -writesbr 0 sbrempty.bin

    megarec -cleanflash 0

    Thanks for any suggestions,

  2. Hi,

Im about to move into a new case, Lian LI PC-D8000, atm im planning on moving the current hardware to it which is

    SUPERMICRO X9SCM-F

    Intel Xeon E3-1230

    Kingston 4GB ECC DDR3 1333

    2x IBM M1015

    8x Hitachi 5K3000 2TB (5400rpm)

    8x Seagate ST4000DM000 4TB (5900rpm)

    6x Samsung 1.5TB (5400rpm)

I'll be swaping the 6 samsung for 6x WD 5tb reds when they hit the market, but not planning on changing toward 7200rpms drives ever.  When 4k movies become mainstream, im planning on modding the case to fit 32 to 36hdds (will depend on how the modding go).  Still undecided on which PSU should i upgrade to, thinking on todays requirements, according to the 2amp rule on the the first post, the 24x2 = 48amps, in the future 32x2 = 64amps, an 850W with single 12V rail will have 70amps, so a little tight for the future, but also not all hdds take 2amps fully, some go lower, so i was thinking 850W would be fine.

I am considering the Corsair RM Series 850 Watt ATX/EPS 80PLUS Gold-Certified Power Supply - CP-9020056-NA RM850, but open to any suggestions that could fit the needs better.

  3. Computex: ASRock debuts Z87 motherboard with 22 SATA-ports

We'll start you off with the Z87 Extreme11/ac. This E-ATX motherboard is the manufacturer's most complete and high-end creation to date. It features no less than 22 SATA-ports.  Six SATA 6 Gb/s connectors come from the Z87 chipset. The additional sixteen SAS/SATA ports are courtesy of an LSI SAS 3008 + SAS 3 x 24R controller. The board also features Thunderbolt, 802.11ac and dual Gigabit LAN.

  4. Damnit, I wonna pull the trigger on that one -- but the warranty!

Yeah. I just bought 2x 4TB Hitachi HDS724040ALE640 Deskstar 7K4000 because of the 3 year warranty. Buying any drive with a one year warranty is not my idea of a good time. The Hitachi drives are so reliable[/img]

I personally have a good experience with Hitachi also, and im keeping 8x 2tb for now, but Hitachi drives are expensive, specially the 4tb are like $220-250, while this are $150.  RMA for me its expensive, i have to pay like $40 to ship them back, i havent return a hdd in the last 5 years due to cost.  So im betting on cheaper and replace them if they fail, kinda expensive... but thats my life.

One thing that sold me on this drives were comments on SPCR about they bieng very quiet drives, and even though i know my server is not going to be really quiet... i do appriciate a drive that does have to loud noise.

Btw since newegg release the seagates on the shell shocker deals for $150 today, amazon already price match them again.
