  1. i have a vista box with SP1 and was having the same 5-7 MB/s transfer rates.  I did the mod Joe made in the user customization forum and now get 30-35 MB/s transferring from the unraid.  That is important to me since i like to be able to grab movies off it fast to take with me.  Writing to the server isn't as important as i do batch transfers over night.  My server is using all brand new SATA drives and hardware and i have Gig-E as well.   I can transfer an 8gb file in about 5 or 6 minutes.

This is the mod im talking about.

  2. How do i get windows to automatically login to my mapped network unrad drives?  Everytime i reboot the client computer, i have to manually reconnect my shared network drives and enter a username and password.  I set up My Movies a front end for Vista/XP that shows all the movies on my Unraid server.  I can't use it to browse all my movies unless i reconnect all the network drives and login first.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. hey, went back to Vista 32 and tried the fix first posted and it didn't work.  I know that the network/server/unraid is working, it is something on my Vista 32 install that isn't working compared to my Vista 64 install.  I did nothing different installing Vista 64 as compared to Vista 32.  Any other ideas?  Hoping SP1 will fix the issue, if not, im not sure what to do.

  4. a little update.   while i had Vista64 on, a friend came over with Vista SP1 which is due out on Dec 10th.  I installed the service pack and now my transfers have increased in speed.  Average 25 megabytes per second reading from the Unraid and about 15 megabytes per second writing to the array.   I might just keep 64 on until the service pack is released then i will switch back to Vista 32 and see if it fixes the problem.  I also got the file that Rob pointed out so i will try that first. If I can't get it working,  i might be asking for more advice ;)

  5. Hey guys, this is very frustrating.  I have about 150 HD/SD movies on my Unraid server, which i obviously copied to it with no problem so i know my hardware works.  Now everytime i go to copy something to it, the file transfer gets partway through and says "There is a problem accessing C:\movies\rudolph.mpg (or whatever the file name is) make sure you are connected to the network and please try again".    I tried writing to different drives on my unRaid and using different drives on my home computer.  I am running Vista (and always have been) and have GigE.  Im not 100% sure but it seems to have happened when i switched to Vista32 from Vista64.  I have no clue what to do and now my server is pretty much useless.  I tried downgrading to 4.0 from 4.21, still nothing changed.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  6. How do you get the server to prompt you for a password for the user shares again?  i want to try the different user names i made up but once i put in my user name and password, it always asumes i want to log in as the same user.  I want to try the same share but with a user name and password i made for my roommate to see if it works as well.

  7. Just upgraded to Beta4 and am having some user security problems.  If i turn off user security i can double click on my Tower in network neighbourhood and see whatever drives i exported.  However, soon as i turn user security on, if i even click on Tower in network neighbourhood, it says it is unaccesable.  Soon as i turn off user security, i can see the Tower again.  Also, it never prompts me for username/password anywhere.  Any help would be much appreciated.

  8. Hey guys, i messed up with this release.  I was running 4.1 fine, i upgraded to the new beta and everything seemed fine.  Then i clicked on enable security or something like that but i did this before i created any users.  Now it is asking for a user name and password to even get to the config pages so im kinda locked out.. Any ideas?  I should have left well enough alone but i always like to try the latest.

  9. PGP,

hey, no worries.  Theatertek will play back all sorts of media files, high definition and standard def, regular stuff.  The stuff mostly floating around the net these days are .mkv files in high definition.  Theatertek doesn't natively support that file type but if you have the right decoders, and haali media splitter, you can do a quick graph to make theatertek play mkv files.  You only have to do a graph once for each file type (extension), ie. i make a graph for mkv files, save it and Theatertek will always play mkv files properly without any further user intervention.  That way, i get high definition video, and DD/DTS 5.1, and it looks and sounds great.   Here's a link if interested http://www.theatertek.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=8914 and another http://www.theatertek.com/Forums/showthread.php?t=9813

As for playing a backup of an HD-DVD, i think Theatertek can work but not very well.  I have tried HD-DVD rips that have been re-encoded into a mkv file and they work fine, i just don't think theatertek supports the files structure, and evo files or whatever are from an HD-DVD rip.

I've been using Theatertek for years, but just started with the HD stuff, so im just a newbie but it wasn't too hard to get it working..
