Having issues with unraid this morning it says the USB drive is read only. Why does unraid switch the drive to read only? If I pop the drive in a windows machine I can read/write whatever I want.

Froze again..... This time I see nothing in the syslog just the screen dumped a bunch of jiberish and then I was locked out of gui. Any additional switches/app I can turn on to try to capture the failure? I am mirroring syslog to the USB drive

This is currently just a test rig to try out unraid so I have kept things fairly simple. It has a 2TB HDD that I formatted just for unra id testing. There are 3 other drives attached but notunder the control of unraid. 1 NVME and 2 large HDD. MB model is in the screen shot. Both audio and WIFI have been disabled in the BIOS. I am running plex server (running) and I have an instance of windows11 that is not running. Doagnostic directory pulled after reboot. -> I also removed the windows VM.

ich777 Is actually correct. I am on the older version (7349) of plex. I am aware of the condition you are mentioning and did not upgrade plex.

Yes it was the web client I used. I will go try a shield device and report back *edit* You are correct still works appears to be related to the web client. I was not aware that was an issue. Learned something new. I will have to try that out on an ubuntu system see if also has an issue with web client.

Latest update to intel-GPU Top seems have killed HW transcode. GPU is doing something but most of the processing is now done by CPU. How do I go back to the prior version?

I have a 13th gen but haven't look to see what it says. I am running the i9 13900. I will check later to see if it says 13th or 12th gen

Did you install Intel-GPU-TOP plugin "GPU Statistics" will show you the workload in the GPU

Correct it shows up in dashboard as direct play now. All problems solved. I'd like to enable the the override file I mentioned previously to move just the database onto an SSD and also make it so that if I rebuild a plex install I wont have to rebuild the database. Is there a link here of anyone doing that I could follow? I know how to do it for liunux dont know if things change for unraid.

Video driver issue?

file plays fine so I doubt its corrupt. I can transfer it back to dekstop and plays fine. Only using 1 test file to limit complexity and time it takes to do things. I'm suspecting maybe a read-only issue worth looking into. Not sure what it needs to do to the file to scan it but I will check this later when I get back home. *edit* This is what I get when I try to analyze the video fails detecting credits and length unsure of why ok feel like a boob.........file was corrupted. Played when transferred over to desktop but I didn't go to the end of the file which appears to be missing. Which explains why it did not know EOF. I retransferred a fresh copy from ubuntu directory and now its scanning the file as expected and streams correctly. So had 2 issues: 1. Missing updated drivers -> Would help if this was in the driver directory 2. corrupted file Appreciate all the help!

Good point I have tried that it spins and completes quickly. That could potentially be where the issue is. This should force a scan of credits and a scan of the movie. I am not seeing it do that. Maybe a wierd permission issue since I keep my movies separate from the plex install directory. Let me look into that. I should be able to log into the container and change permissions to plex.plex

in plex it shows the correct runtime. If you see that is shows 2hours 42 min However the "play bar" shows 0.19 -> -0.19 this will change as the movie plays.. If you try an skip forward the movie restart from time 0. for reference here is how the movie shows up under a ubuntu box using the same hardware streaming to the same nvidia shield device. Notice the time starts at 0 and goes to -2.41:52 as expected. The little circle in the play bar can be moved forward no issue at all. I am only able to get it to work this way in the unraid version by forcing a transcode.

yes. Disk1 is just the host path. under plex it gets mapped to /movies The movie would not show up at all if this was wrong.

I have the Wan binding option unchecked. But yes I added the IP/subnet. So I don't think they would play at all if it tried to go to WAN. I also have a 1Gbps WAN connection so BW "shouldn't be" an issue anyway. Thanks for the suggestion though! The video does direct play and it plays in 4k just fine. The issues is the video does not show up in the plex dashboard when direct playing. Also I get incorrect video length when direct playing on the shield plex player. If I try to fast forward the movie starts over from the beginning. If I force a transcode all these issues go away.

yea sorry I meant the latest unraid. 6.12.4. Type-O missed the 2 and the dot For disk I didnt want to tear down my old system so I formatted a 2TB HDD just for Unraid testing. So yea the share disk is just disk1. Kinda slick that unraid boots from a USB and allows you to do that. Normally I keep the plex app data on a SSD and separate from the plex install so its just habit. That way you can tear down a plex install without having to rebuild the database. Helpful if you have thousands of movies. Here I am just building a new database and only have 1 movie in it for testing purposes. I haven't looked to see if any of this is possible with unraid version of plex but it would be something like /etc/systemd/system/plexmediaserver.service.d/override.conf [Service] Environment="PLEX_MEDIA_SERVER_APPLICATION_SUPPORT_DIR=/home/myusername/Library/Application Support" Yes server was claimed. What you are seeing is just a general frustration with getting it to work. I am fully willing to accept something wrong with my config. I am not new to plex or plex server I have been using it for a couple years. I am aware of how its supposed to work as I have set this up on ubuntu and have zero of these issues. I am fully aware audio and and subtitle can cause cpu transcode of those files. However the video will still transcode in the GPU. I have no issue with these files transcoding in the CPU. It's a non issue. The workload to do that is very minimal. /dev/dri -> shows up both card0 and render128 I use nvidia shield devices for playback because I have found they are the most compatible with video and audio codecs. These are all hardwired using 1GB ethernet. I am not trying to playback anything that hasn't been previously tested as fully functional under ubuntu plex-server. Just trying to replicate the same results under a different OS. A question on the video driver. Does unraid 6.12.4 not come with updated video drivers preinstalled? I missed "Intel-GPU-TOP" as it did not show up under the "driver" tab as an option to install. Maybe this is the issue.

I downloaded 1.32.5 If I stream a movie directly nothing shows in my dashboard as playing anyone know why? Even though the bandwidth clearly shows something streaming. Also if I stream directly i'm unable to fast forward and the incorrect length of movie is shown. +0.19 -> -0.19 If I force a transcode by changing the resolution then it correctly shows up in the dashboard. The correct movie length also shows up. I really want to like unraid there are a bunch of features I actually like. But I can't seem to get ANY of the plex-server apps on unraid to work correctly. I think I have tried them all. Maybe its a quirk of running in Docker? Running on linux these issues do not exits. Is there any stable version on unraid that works 1/2 correctly? Any help is appreciated.

So I reverted back to 6.11.5 and plex server just does not seem to work correctly. HW transcode does not work at all. You still have to disable tone mapping on 6.11.5 to get HW transcode to work. If I direct play a 4k movie I see multiple issues. 1. You are unable to skip forward. The display does not show the correct length of the movie 2. The movie does not show up in the dashboard as being played as indicated in the above image where you can see network traffic is streaming but not status of movie. I have the i9 13900 with i915 GPU I see issues when trying to force transcode of 4k movie If after movie starts you go to HD then try to change the resolution it gives you no option but convert automatically. If you choose that and then go back to HD NOW you can choose which resolution you want. Just doesnt seem like the docker container and plex-server are working correctly together. I go to click install an get nothing. If I go to installed plugins it does not show up. What am I missing? *edit* got it to work for some reason the USB drive switched to read only. Now I have it installed. So this will keep a log after a crash? Where does it save the log file?

I can confirm if HDR tone mapping is enabled HW transcode is broken. If you disable HDR tone mapping HW transcode will work. I am using 13900 CPU with iGPU
