Network connectivity Options without direct router access
Hi all.. I contacted my internet service provider with the hope that they could move my router into my office upstairs that way i can have both my main machine and the NAS connected directly to the internet so both can benefit from my 1gbs internet speed but also benefit from 2.5gbs connectivity. They have advised me that they cannot move the router as there no way to reach the part of the house and their current regulations do not allow them to run cable across the roof. Currently my main machine is connected via wifi and the nas located in the attic via room via a power line adapter. The problem is that the power line adapter can only transfer data up to 20-30 megabytes a second which is fine for small files but with your average uncompressed 4k being between 50 - 70gb this could take up to an hour to transfer a single file across the network, even when using a a high speed nvme cache drive. To me the only option is to invest in a wifi 6e mesh system that way i can benefit from a higher WIFI internet speeds as well as being able to connect the nas directly to one of the 2.5gbs ethernet ports on one of the satellites. However these are expensive so I'm interested to know how people who are in a similar predicament as me have managed to attain decent speeds i.e where their nas couldn't be connected directly to the router. Is using a mesh system my only option?

Checking Power Usage and Installing Dockers and VMS on SSD
Hi I'm in the process of setting up my array an I'm total noob at unraid so I have a few questions. I want to ensure that dockers and VMS are installed to an SSD for faster performance. I have a 1tb nvme which I will use a cache pool and 500gb SSD that I was to use for Dockers and VM's. I have read somewhere that i need to also set that as cache drive but I'm not sure how you would make sure that all files that need to go the array are put initially to the NVME and the dockers and VM's to the SSD. How would I achieve this? Secondly is there anyway I view the power usage of my unraid sever . I have seen images of people being able to view the power usage on the dashboard? Do I need a UPS to monitor this?

Recommended controllers for Unraid
The Jonsbos got 8 hdd bays.. I think my main concern is using something cheap to manage the sata connections and once the drives all start getting connected theres issues with file transfer or drives start randomly losing connectivity .Having an enterpirse level controller will give you some peace of mind that it will be able to deal with the demands place upon it. My mobo has 4 onboard sata connections.

Recommended controllers for Unraid
Has anyone tried to add a HBA to a Jonbo N3 case.. Ive got one of these nvme sata expansion cards off aliexpress for my array but judging from the price im not sure how well /long these will manage before they topple over . Id therefore rather go for something more reliable however im not sure if the case ive got will have sufficient space infront of the heatsink to put small fan on top of it (still waiting for it arrive).Has anyone had any experience or would a sata expansioin card serve me better?, im planning on running an 8 disk array. Going off some of the comments here it looks like even the sata expansion cards have been somewhat problematic on here for some people.

cache Pool size
Hi im in the process of building a unraid server ,, which im totally new to. Im sure this has been asked loads of times but would be the ideal cache pool size for me. I will be intially starting with 3 16 disks in raid 5 and adding more as the need for more storage arises.Ive got a case that will house 8 disks so the eventual useable storage will be around 101tb. The server will be mostly used for storage and plex and running a few vms(not as daily drivers though). In terms of dockers i will be using Plex and Handbrake for sure , will need to see what other dockers are available.Intially ive got around 4tb worth of movie files to move over from my main machine after that the data transfer will be significantly less Will only add data when i need to .I got 1tb nvme for the cache drive with a 500gb sd for the OS but i realised today thats not how it works so im thinking of returning both and replacing it with a 2tb drive. ive got two nvme ports but the other will get occupied by a sata controller so i wont be able to add more storage unless i swap it over a bigger drive (waste of a drive) or invest in an expansion card that will house addtional nvme(no plans to do this just yet). Do you think 2tb nvme will be a good option for me.

LSI MegaRaid SAS 9361-8i 1GB - FH PCIe-x8 12Gbps SAS RAID Controller Compatibility
Is it likely to cause issues if i had two of the drives running from the motherboard along with 6 from this controller and not from the same the controller. Ive got sata drives btw. Im happy to invest more on more expnsive card i an altenative is more reliable. Ive read in some case these do fail after a given time.

LSI MegaRaid SAS 9361-8i 1GB - FH PCIe-x8 12Gbps SAS RAID Controller Compatibility
Ive been through a lot of the posts. For an 8 bay nas would you recommend the above HBA or something else. I purchased this controller from AliExpress:- https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005427076687.html but ive been told that it might not be ideal and might be prone to failure . Ideally i want something that is reliable isnt just going to fall over suddenly.

LSI MegaRaid SAS 9361-8i 1GB - FH PCIe-x8 12Gbps SAS RAID Controller Compatibility
Hi im contemplating buying the LSI MegaRaid SAS 9361-8i 1GB - FH PCIe-x8 12Gbps SAS RAID Controller for my new unraid setup however im unsure whether this will work with the software has anyone tried it and what did you have to do to get it to work as ive read that you have reflash these cards otherwise they wont work.
