Kann das Gehäuse auch empfehlen. Soweit auch gut mit einem Tower Kühler zu nutzen aber etwas eng. Das von @Manyak angesprochene modulare Netzteil ist definitiv eine gute Sache, da jedes vermiedene Kabel gut für den sehr begrenten Platz in dem Gehäuse ist. Je nach verwendeten Festplatten, kann es bei deren Aktivität zu einem leichten Brummen kommen. Ich habe dazu das Gehäuse noch mit den Silverstone SST-SF01 gedämmt und auf die Oehlbach One for All Resonanzdämpfer gestellt. Bringt nicht viel aber da das System im Arbeitszimmer gleich neben dem Schreibtisch steht, bin ich für jedes bisschen leiser dankbar. Oder eben je nach Glaubensrichtung & Bedarf die HDs über "Settings -> Disk Settings -> Default spin down delay" in den Ruhezustand schicken - dann ist das Case bei mir lautlos. Hier noch für Interessierte meine BIOS Settings (aktuell Version F9) für C8 und Kommandos im go-file in /boot/config um powertop zu starten und WOL zu deaktivieren. Zwischenzeitlich ist noch eine Evo 860 für den btrfs cache pool im System gelandet und im BIOS das "Initial Display Output" auf die iGPU umgestellt, was in den Bildern vom BIOS noch nicht dargestellt ist. Vermutlich kann man auch noch etwas weniger Verbrauch durch Anpassung der Spannung an CPU/RAM erreichen aber hier habe ich nichts geändert.

So after a few runs the script works nicely with a cron based schedule. I found this website helpfull when it comes to the cron schedule: https://crontab.guru/ Really nice to have the logfile right next to the script so there is no need for searching on the CLI Another option would be to create two scripts - one for starting and one for stopping the docker container but i just leave it in one script for now.

Hmm i agree, a nice user interface to sync to different services would be really nice to have. I currently don't have that many services running locally so an extra VM to run DSM just to run CloudSync feels a bit like an overhead. Shared the synced onedrive share with smb in the local network and it's working fine so far. Just wondering, is the Synology cloud sync more stable than running onedrive directly on unraid in the docker container? Or simply to have all apps in one place? One more question - is there a way to set the update interval for onedrive? Currently it will scan the onedrive folder every 300 seconds (5min) for changes. As i dont need to run constantly in the background, once per day (i.e. at midnight) would be enough in my setup.

I agree with having an easy installation and setup with just adding one container but, no offence, especially when it comes to data privacy & security (why else would you add Unbound to PiHole?), i prefer to have some more details about the internal configuration. I'll take a look at running pihole & unbound in separate containers to have some more controll over it

After some testing i have the Seagate X20 up and running in Unraid without any further "special treatment" but i am not using any HBA / adapter in my setup

Nachtrag: Woran es auch gelegen haben könnte: Ich hatte als NICs ein per XML benanntes Netz (intern/extern) angelegt. Letztlich habe ich nun jedoch in der Unraid VM Oberfläche direkt die NICs (also virbr0/virbr1..) ausgewählt. Möglicherweise hat sich der VNC an der Benennung gestört und konnte deshalb die Verbindung nicht aufbauen.

Danke für den Tipp! xrdp muss ich mal ausprobieren. VNC funktioniert jetzt plötzlich bei den VMs über die reguläre Unraid Oberfläche. Ich habe in den VMs in der VNC Konfiguration Copy & Paster aktiviert und plötzlich ging es. Firefox Addons usw alles wie gehabt. Komisch, aber wenn es jetzt erstmal läuft..

Ja, mit Chrome, Edge und Firefox aber leider kommt der selbe Fehler. Wie würdest du auf die Maschinen zugreifen? Große Grafik-Performance wird eigentlich nicht benötigt (also es wird keine GPU an die Linux VMs weitergereicht oder so) aber wenn es flüssig läuft, wäre das natürlich schon gut.

Hallo zusammen, ich hätte mal wieder eine Verständnis-Frage Im Unraid habe ich zwei VMs mit VNC als "Display" erstellt, welche mittlerweile auch ohne Probleme funktionieren. Jedoch funktioniert der VNC Zugriff über die Unraid Oberfläche nicht sondern nur über den im Docker installierten Virt-Manager. Über die Unraid Oberfläche erhalte ich bei dem Versuch der Verbindung nur die folgende Fehlermeldung: Woran könnte dies liegen? Die Verbindung über den Virt-Manager läuft doch auch über VNC oder?

Die angesprochenen Zugriffsprobleme auf den per Virtiofs eingebundenen Ordner in der VM konnte ich mittlerweile auch lösen. Der in der VM eingebundene Ordner ist über Unraid für einen einfachen Zugriff im LAN per SMB freigegeben. Hier kamen die Probleme auf, dass die Inhalte des Ordners, welche in der VM erstellt wurden, wegen fehlender Rechte nicht zu löschen / zu bearbeiten waren. In der Linux VM habe ich nun die "umask" auf 000 gesetzt womit die Berechtigungen kein Problem mehr sind. Aus Sicherheitstechnischer Sicht vermutlich nicht die beste Lösung aber im lokalen LAN nicht so kritisch.

For everybody running into a similar problem: The fstab will not accept any further changes with gid/uid/umask for the virtiofs entry but i was able to change the "umask" setting in the VM itself so it is working fine, now.

Hi there, i got some trouble with permissions with using Virtiofs in a Linux VM machine. The VM (called workstation) is created with virtiofs and i was able to mount the share on the linux machine without any trouble and added it to fstab to make it permament. VM: fstab on client linux machine: But whenever i create a new folder or file in the mounted directory "shared" on the linux machine, it is created with the wrong user permissions. On the host they are translated into another user Is there a way to set other default permissions (in the fstab?), whenever something is created in the mounted folder? Security is not relevant in this case so 777 would be ok. Any help is highly appreciated!

Learned a lot in the last few days about Docker and how to run everything on unraid I had Pihole & Unbound set up manually on a Raspberry before and never used Docker before. Please correct me if i am worng but with Unbound being the upstream server, to which upstream DNS servers will it talk to? And how (DOT/DOH)? https://unbound.docs.nlnetlabs.nl/en/latest/topics/privacy/dns-over-https.html# So the DNS Request goes like this: Your PC ---> Pihole ---> Unbound ---> ? I checked your link to Github/Pihole but can i pass / check the configuration with environemnt variables to unbound, too?

Ich konnte das Problem mittlerweile lösen - es ist scheinbar ein (alter?) Bug in Spice im HTML5 nach: https://github.com/canonical/lxd-ui/issues/348 https://forum.opennebula.io/t/4-11-spice-is-not-refreshing/336 https://access.redhat.com/solutions/877613 Warum er in meinem einfachen Setup aufgetreten ist, ist mir nicht klar. Letztlich konnte ich es lösen mit den folgenden Schritten: SPICE in den VMs deaktivieren. Hierzu ist in der jeweiligen XML alles zu entfernen, was mit Spice zu tun hat, da man sonst die neue Konfiguration nicht speichern kann In den VMs dann eine neue "Grafikkarte" hinzufügen und diese direkt auf VNC stellen. Hier habe ich wieder "DE" als Keymap ausgewählt VMs starten und in der Console nochmal "sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration" und "sudo setupcon" ausführen Der Zugriff direkt in der Unraid Oberfläche auf die VMS über die Option "VM Console (VNC)" funktioniert leider noch nicht - über die Virtual Machine Manager aus den Apps jedoch ohne Probleme.

Testweise habe ich gerade eine einfache Ubuntu VM erstellt und die Installation per iso gestartet aber habe den gleichen Fehler bei bestimmten Tasten: Liegt das möglicherweise an Spice? Ist hier noch etwas einzustellen?

Will get another one for my Unraid system an will come back to you with the result. I do not use HBA / adapters between the mobo and the drive though

Hallo zusammen, ich habe ein komisches Problem, bei dem ihr mir vielleicht weiter helfen könnt. Als UnRaid-Anfänger habe ich möglicherweise (wahrscheinlich..) einfach etwas übersehen. In Unraid habe ich zum testen zwei Debian VMs erstellt und habe sie erfolgreich zum laufen gebracht inkl einem virtiofs Ordner zum Datenaustausch (aktuell aber noch mit einigen Problemen mit den Zugriffs-Rechten). Die VMs starte ich normal in der Unraid Übersicht und verbinden mich mit der "VM Console (Spice)", was auch ganz gut funktioniert. Jedoch werden scheinbar nicht alle Tasten bzw. ein falsches Tastaturlayout auf die VM übertragen und ich bekomme, beispielsweise wenn ich ein "#" tippe, nur den Hinweis "no map for 163". Da der Hinweis von der IP von Unraid kommt, ist dies ein Thema von Spice? Oder Unraid? Oder wo ganz woanders? 🤔 Settings: Lokales System: Win 11 auf Deutsch mit deutschem Tastatur Layout Unraid System: Unraid 6.12.6 auf Englisch aber keinerlei Probleme bei der Eingabe aller Zeichen Unraid Konfiguration der VMs: Bei beiden ist "VM Console Keyboard: German (de)" gesetzt Debian VMs intern: Beide sind gesetzt auf Location: US mit deutschem Tastaturlayout (105 Keys / E1 Tastaturbelegung). Hatte bereits Location: DE versucht aber das Problem bestand weiterhin. Mittlerweile habe ich mehr über Tastaturlayouts gelernt, als ich je wissen wollte. Pure Power 12 M (550W) RAM: Kingston FURY Beast (1 x 32GB) Cache: Samsung 860 EVO (500GB) Array: Samsung 870 EVO (1TB) im 2.M2 Slot Unraid auf Samsung BAR Plus 32GB USB Stick Case: Fractal Define Design Node 304 Mit Unraid 6.12.6 und einigen BIOS Anpassungen sowie Powertop komme ich auf C8 - Ohne Tastatur / Display liege ich aktuell bei grob 8,5 Watt mit Spitzen auf 11 Watt. Wird vermutlich noch leicht höher, wenn ich die regulären Platten anstecke aber war doch überrascht, dass man direkt so geringe Watt-Zahlen erreicht. Klar ist noch Luft nach "unten" (Netzteil..) aber war jetzt etwas der Kompromiss aus verfügbarer Hardware / Anschaffungspreis / Ersparnis durch geringstmöglichen Stromverbrauch..

Just for a better understanding - there is currently no updated version of the Docker Container (as seen here (https://github.com/chriscrowe/docker-pihole-unbound/tree/main)) to get rid of the "Update available"-Message, correct? And is there maybe a way to look into the unbound.conf to make some adjustements like DOH / DOT / Upstream Servers.. ?

Installed fine on my new system but was wondering: where can i take a look at my unbound.conf? Could not find it in /mnt/user/appdata/pihole-unbound and its subfolders i have a notification on the pihole interface about an available update (see screenshot). Usually i would just go for an "pihole -up" but as i understood, that's not the way with Docker. How can i install the update instead? My apology for asking for seemingly obvious things - i am srsly new to Docker and Unraid. Any help is highly appreciated! @Sic79 I am happy to try the other one but unfortunatelly i failed at the installation. Can you maybe point me to some beginner-friendly tutorial how to install it?

Please correct me if a am wrong but (i think) the support for the 14th gen cpus is already there. I set up a new Unraid (6.12.6) system yesterday with the following hardware and reached C8 only with optimizing the BIOS and installing Powertop: MB: Gigabyte B760i Aorus Pro DDR4 CPU: i3-14100 PSU: Be Quiet! Pure Power 12 M (550W) RAM: Kingston FURY Beast (1 x 32GB) SSD: Samsung 860 EVO (500GB) as Cache M.2: Samsung 870 EVO (1TB) as Array Unraid on Samsung BAR Plus 32GB USB Stick Added the following commands to the go file in /boot/config to run powertop and disable wake-on-lan: I reused an older BeQuiet Black Rock Pro 4 Cooler without any fans and it is running happily at around 25°. With no keyboard, display or fans attached, the system is using around 8.5 watts with a spike up to around 11 watts every now and then. I suppose the energy consumption will rise a little bit with any further drives attached and VMs/Docker Container installed & running. As requested from @SB_max here is my current BIOS configuration. I am running on version F9 and added another Evo 860 in the meantime as btrfs cache pool. Furthermore i changed the "Initial Display Output" to iGPU which is not showing up on the pictures. Further optimization might be possible with changing the CPU/RAM voltage but i didn't change anything there - any tips are welcome PS. I know there might be better components out there but the higher costs for the hardware will probably not equal the savings with the slightly lower power consumption
