  1. Just connected the drive the first time to the Mac. There the drive didnt spin down. (Never had any use for it on mac because of other incompatibilities) So the problem must be with Windows then and not with the drive itself. Just found the solution: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/65710-add-remove-turn-off-hard-disk-after-power-options-windows.html I was able to make visible with registry settings a windows setting that controls when windows spins down the drive. also only with command line this setting can be set: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/change-turn-off-hard-disk-after-idle-time-in-windows-11.10255/ The drive doesnt spin down anymore. solved!
  2. Exos X18 - Model Number: ST18000NM000J - Serial Number (SN): ZR525A3G - Part Number (PN): 2TV103-881 - Firmware (FW): SN04 First I got to say neither have unraid nor do I have a possibility to connect a sata drive to a board directly. I am writing here because I saw there are a couple of threads about these drives and hope that somebody knows how to fix this. Problem: I use this drive as a backup drive in a usb case but the drive spins down like after 30 or 40 seconds of being idle. That is very annoying because after that time the drive needs to spin up again. this causes a lag when clicking through folder or doing something else. I only have: - a mac and a windows laptop - usb case (FANTEC DB-ALU31A) that contains my exos hdd - alternatively a sata to usb cable Can somebody tell me what I need to do to fix this issue? (I already checked basic windows settings that might shut down the usb, but I think it is the drive itself) I tried to update the firmware to SN05. But I think you cannot do that when the drive is connected over usb? is that correct? Also would that help at all? (I am even not sure if the part number qualifies for update to SN05, the documentation is unclear)
