  4. Huh?... the consumer grade Retail drives are the ones keeping the 5 year warranty... it's the bulk packed "OEM" drives most often sold at a steep discount that get the shorter warranty... BTW, I ALWAYS rma even those older drives... I look at it as my money.... and you can always find some archival usage for them...
  5. Well, I've only had to request a second RMA due to a recon drive once, and it was DOA!
  6. I've returned several drives to Seagate with the advance replacement option and never had a return questioned, some in this same category, where Seatools passed the drive.
  7. Can you disable the bios with a jumper? I don't believe linux needs the bios, I think it's for Interrupt13 booting in the bios. Maybe you can just lift the power pin or the enable line on the eeprom.
  8. The sales on Seagate drives at Outpost/Frey's are almost always retail box...

Whenever reporting absolute temperatures, it's quite helpful to the reader trying to makes sense of his situation if you would also report the current room temperature.... a computer room in Sweden in February might be quite different from my computer closet in Florida in May when the air-conditioner is still off...

  11. +1... GREAT board ... and NOT picky on memory like My Intel boards and it knows how to read an SPD, not like Asus boards

  16. try the 4.4 beta, the updated kernel may have drivers for it...
  17. interesting... I recently found that under Vista, Smartctl doesn't work at all on the drives on a 1430sa controller...
