  1. Here's the setup: 6 drives on Intel MB controller 1 drive on MB SIL controller 1 drive on MB JMicron controller 4 drives on Adaptec 4030sa PCIe 4x controller (in 16x graphics card slot) 2 drives on two PCIe 1x SIL controllers I have 12 drives in the array, 1 cache and one Linux boot drive A core2duo of about 2 ghz would be plenty... go for one with the biggest cache (I'm using a Q6600 ) I have 8gb of Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 in it, at 2.2 v I had to get a Corsair 750 with single rail, my 600w OCZ would sag and reboot the server when I hit the "Spinup" button Good Luck....
  2. with my AB9pro setup, where each drive is on it's own PCIe lane, parity is done at about 90 MB/sec... 9 1 tb drives and 3 500gb drives finish in a little more than 3 hours.
  3. I used the Armour, which you say you already have. I put in four 3in2 Trayless units from Kingwin for 12 Seagate 1tb's plus a 500gb Cache and 300gb "linux" disk... and have an AB9 with Q6600 and 8 gigs of DDr2-800 .... oh, and just got a Corsair single rail 750 for it
  4. were you ever able to stop it from doing the loooooong drive discovery process?
  5. I use Goof-Off from HomeDepot.... works just as well and, naturally, is considerably cheaper
  6. Well, it DOES give you an opportunity to set up the BIOS and all before plugging in the card and running headless... of course a PCI video card can always be stuck in if req'd for troubleshooting...
  7. I've taken to putting a small 50mm fan right on top of the 4 dimms in my machines... blowing down into the center of the memory sticks.... they do run quite hot and this REALLY cools them down considerably.... I also always attach a 40mm fan to the Northbridge heatsink as they run quite hot as well.... memory problems have lessened dramatically
  8. Actually, Crucial Ballistx requires 2.2Volts !! Lately I use nothing but Crucial, but occasionally RMA's are required... I've had the same experience with others such as Corsair...
  9. The results are redirected from the screen to the text file you specified...
  10. me too ! and the progress bar is at order CONFIRMED .... I hope the delay isn't a stall to get in some re-certs!!!
  11. That's why it's call unRaid... The traditional forms of raid do what's called stripping.... it distributes data and parity across all drives... unRaid has data for a specific file on ONE data drive and it's attendant parity (along with the parity of the data in similar blocks on the other data drives) is on the parity drive.
  12. I hope my 3 ship... that will fill my box with 12 x 1tb for the array...

    Memory question.

can you tell from my syslog? I'm booting 4.3.3 with 8gb....
  14. I found that even on my rig which does parity checks in the 96,000 range, a drive mistakeny jumped for 150 made no difference....

    Memory question.

I think you'll find little if ANY discernable difference in the performance of DDR800 vs DDR667.... even in a rig used under Vista for compressing video, the difference is negligible...
  16. I had some very similar problems with PCI video when I got mine quite some time ago.... in fact, I RMA'd the first board because of it... I don't remember what I did to fix it, but like you, I remember it was something weird.... it also would not boot with my Gigabyte Fanless PCIe nVidia 8500.... but it booted fine with a cheapy PCIe 8400.... go figure... I run AHCI.
  17. Well, I have a 110" screen also, and a Mits 1000 720dlp.... I've done many dvd's at up to 70% on the compression scale to fit main movie and AC3 on a 4.3gb blank, using settings for deep-analysis and Maximum Smoothness.... I must say that whether I play them on my HTPC or my PS3, "I" cannot see any artifacts and swapping disks, though certainly far from an A/B comparison, I can't see any difference
  18. Don't know if it's helpful or not, but I found that the only way I could get my key to appear high enough on the hard drive boot selection list when loaded with harddrives on my AB9 was to use a specific USB socket, presumably the "number 1" slot ?
  19. ... and the local computer as well... for instance make the UnRaid server 192.168.0.1 and the PC 192.168.0.2....
  20. with GBit lan you don't need a crossover cable, the NIC's will auto-configure....

    Why ReiserFS?

come on.... you must have known he meant LIFEVEST....
  22. I think this might require Tom's blessings...
