  1. I'll bet it's the aversion to that delicate looking thing sticking out of the computer.... Jim
  2. Yeah .... it's pink.... (puke)
  3. I have several usb thumb drives formatted with the HP utility and are bootable to dos. They come in VERY handy at times like this... Jim
  4. All I can say is that it works... very well.... not much more to rport
  5. I don't think I can count high enough to keep track of my Maxtor failures...
  6. Hey trueimage... do you really look like that? I know I don't !!!
  7. VERY interesting suggestion.... gonna have to try that "someday"
  8. Probably a power supply issue..... the WD's draw less power
  9. the 6 on the Intel chip are fine... the JMicron and SiL controllers are 2port controllers on a single lane, so only use 1 drive on each... =8
  10. your SATA controller was probably set in RAID mode... AHCI or IDE should work fine... AHCI, if it works, is preferred.... it's an advanced method of controlling the drives (VERY simplified)
  11. note that this is a "prerelease" thus BETA bios..
  12. remember it well... my first hard drive was a Seagate ST-501... 5 mb attached to an Atari 800
  13. agree with MediaMonkey.... I never use the player or anything, but I think it's the best all-around tagger there is... once tagged and filed, any decent app like jRiver Media Center can organize the database any way you's like
  14. Back in the ST-225n days, I HATED Seagate drives... but ever since they bought Control Data and put the new guys in charge, they make the best drives IMHO.
  15. 2 boards, 2 machines.... one is running stock unraid with 4 gb, the other is my "play" machine for awhile, 8gb running slackware... learning a bit more about linux before I add unraid to it...
  16. Crucial Ballistix cas 4.... $19.99 per 2x1gb after rebate at Newegg, 2gb stix a bit more.... 2.2 volts
  17. The latest Abit bios is 22 and the latest version of unRAID is 4.3b6
  18. I have my box set up for 11 data drives and 1 parity drive, plus a cache drive and a "boot" drive for slackware... parity on a Rosewell card in a 1 lane slot... 6 data drives on onboard Intel controller, 4 more data drives on Adaptec 4port 4 lane controller (AAR 1430SA), last data drive on 2nd Rosewell card in a 1 lane slot, Cache drive on onboard jmb controller, boot drive on onboard SIL controller.
  19. I have 800mhz memory (8gb) running on my somewhat overclocked Abit AB9pro at 833mhz.... passes 24 hours of memtest with no problem
  20. If you are looking for max throughput (I am) you don't want two drives sharing a single PCIe lane... that's why I use only one channel of the two on the Roswill cards...
  21. That will work, but for FULL THROUGHPUT, you'' want to use "only" 8 of the onboard ports and the 4 port adaptec gets you to twelve, two Roswell's get's you up to 14... yeah, there are 8 port Raid cards you could use in the 16x slot but they are costly $$$$$$....
  22. no, but a $9 PCI video card works just as well
  23. It's amazing, but many times we zealously defend our hardware and say "yes, I checked that and it's good" when really we only "assumed" it was good and really couldn't be bothered with really checking it ! Your assertions that a copy of the file from unraid to another computer left you with a good file really threw us off... bad ram should ALSO have affected this copy... oh well, glad you found thew problem....
