  1. Built zfs-2.0.1 for 6.8.3 & 6.9.0-rc2

If you want to update zfs versions you have to remove the old cached version

    rm /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS/packages/*

    And then restart the server

  2. No I just wish all my standalone dockers and vms could stay up even though the array was stopped. But to be fair I really seldomly have to mess with the array.

But I don't think this is really a problem though. I have had this running over 5 years now without a single hickup and 0 bytes in data loss. And with the daily zfs replication I had 3 months of daily backups I could go back to if I needed any old configs etc.

My point being this started as a way for me to make the perfect setup for me and I'm happy that it has helped others. Funny to look back at the beginning and seeing the first reply to this thread. It took some time for him to to find time to play with it, but when zfs becomes a official part of unraid I will open a small bottle of Champagne

  3. Yeah that sounds good.

Just to be clear I meant for example plex in a docker accessing /mnt/user/Movies

I keep everything zfs under /mnt/SSD including docker.img libvirt.img, vms and docker data without problems. I just was talking about media that is shared inside the vms/docker from /mnt/user/ eg music movies or tvshows

  4. I agree, but it makes it a bit difficult if you are passing through Unraid storage to the VM or Dockers.

Maybe there could be made a change to the KVM/Docker service and allow to run Vms/Containers  that are not dependant on anything in /mnt/user even if the array is off.

That would indeed mean that Pfsense/Homeassistant etc. could keep running even if you had to do some maintenance and stop the array.  I guess there is more to this and how the network stack etc is set up. But if there is a will there is a way.

My hope is that the native ZFS that is "Coming soon TM" will maybe add some good gui presets, but will keep feature parity with this plugin. That is a vanilla version of ZFS under the hood that can be used without restriction.

  5. @Steini84 Can't we get you to do a webinar on your ZFS setup on your unraid server?

    So to be clear,

    1. Update plugin
    2. Upgrade unraid to rc1

That will keep everything as is, in theory?

Thanks for your work on this plugin, much appreciated.

Yeah sure I’m up for that

But yeah that process will get you on zfs 2.0 if you have not already updated to that in 6.8.3

  6. So the process for those who have 6.8.3 and some version of your plugin is update ZFS plugin then update unRaid to 6.9rc1 then reboot?

My unRaid only finds an update to the ZFS plugin from November, not your December one.

Yes. But to be clear I don’t update the plug-in every time I make a new build, only when I need to change the way we load the zfs modules. For example recently with the addition of overlayFS

There has not been a change to the plug-in since November, only new builds:

  7. Built OpenZFS 2.0.0 for 6.8.3 & 6.9.0-beta35

Here you can see the changelog, congrats to the team!

    https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/releases/tag/zfs-2.0.0

Since the plugin caches the install files you need to manually remove them and reboot if you want to upgrade

    rm /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS/packages/*

I would implement a more elegant solution, but since native ZFS on unRAID is on the horizon I dont see the need. Also if you are afraid of the CLI this plugin is not great for you anyway :D

Is it possible to get rid of / waiver this error/warning?

I know that I'm using an unstable version, and everytime after a reboot this shows up and shocks me. 🙃

Yeah you can just remove lines 444-446 in the plugin. For example using nano

    nano -c /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS.plg

Is a reboot required to get the new update, or is the other way - delete and reinstall the plug-in - still working?

Remove the cached package then reboot

    rm /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS/packages/*

  10. Built zfs-2.0.0-rc7 for unRAID-6.8.3 & 6.9.0-beta35

Great to see that unRAID is finally adding native ZFS so this might be one of the last builds from me :)

And yes, i´m already using the new way of side-loading kernel moduels in this plugin

  11. You have been using the 2.0.0 rc version of zfs and need to enable unstable builds.

    From the original post

“Now with the ZFS 2.0.0 RC series I have enabled unstable builds for those who want to try them out:

    #Enable unstable builds
    touch /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS/USE_UNSTABLE_BUILDS
    rm /boot/config/plugins/unRAID6-ZFS/packages/*
    #Then reboot

  12. Built zfs-0.8.5 for unRAID-6.9.0-beta35

    I also built zfs-2.0.0-rc6 for unRAID-6.8.3 & unRAID-6.9.0-beta35

if you are on beta35 you should update the plugin and restart to be on the safe side

    • Thanks 2
  13. Did you read the beta 35 notes?  It seems that there's some new methods for deploying drivers and modules.  They actually include in tree AMD GPU too.  At first I was thinking this was going to save the day - then I realised we still have to compile it against the new kernel right?  I've found these particular new Unraid beta's to be the worst betas I've ever used for some reason, so I think I'll stay away until they at least put the new linux kernel in.

Yeah I just put it all together and pushing it out now

  14. I would not use USB for main storage, it's slow and can cause a mess if you disconnect the usb cable without exporting the pool.

I have used a buffalo diskstation over usb for zfs replication for years and that works perfectly fine after I put it on a UPS

  15. question, how do you guys monitor the disk smart when using ZFS?

unassgined devices plugin is not monitoring disks that are not mounted right?

I use check_mk for overall monitoring of my servers and everything that has a network. It seems that the unassigned drives are being monitored by unraid :b9c441f6e8c8b8da80c32544c880fce7.jpg&key=2ef2c864ae165ac407b212a8775ce26d642a357267c109c8054e4d0424645afe
