  2. I'm not sure I follow - by passing the wrong USB bus in I lost access to the stick I booted ESXI from, it had no impact on my unRAID. In order for this to work you will need to pass thru your adapter cards and the USB hardware but not the USB hardware you are likely booting ESXI from. Then you can use plop or another method to boot and immediately pass to the unRAID stick to continue the boot process. I ran this way for over a year easily, unRAID was even an NFS datastore for my ESXI server I just had to make sure it was booted up before those VMs tried to run is all so make sure you don't autoboot any VMs stored in the unRAID share.
  3. Did this for years, worst thing I ever had happen was pass thru the wrong USB bus and have issues with my ESX software not saving config changes since the USB stick it was on was no longer accessible. I stopped doing it because I wanted to play with KVM and Docker and nesting hypervisors seemed like a bad idea but otherwise I saw no reason not to do it except perhaps a slight performance hit <shrug>
  4. Anyone ever find a solution to this? I've got this message filling my logs and it makes looking at them near useless. SuperMicro mobo, IPMI plugin up and running. I get temps and fan speeds fine near as I can tell. I've seen mention that IPMI may have something to do with this but was wondering if anyone had solved this. Mobo comes up as: Supermicro - X9DRi-LN4+/X9DR3-LN4+
  5. Receiving the following error - something happen? Had multiple updates failed and began poking to find this 😮 After the update failure I was trying to install the older code - no go so far. plugin: installing: /boot/config/plugins-old-versions/community.applications.plg/2018.09.28/community.applications.plg Cleaning Up Old Versions plugin: downloading: https://raw.github.com/Squidly271/community.applications/master/archive/community.applications-2018.09.28.txz ... failed (Invalid URL / Server error response) plugin: wget: https://raw.github.com/Squidly271/community.applications/master/archive/community.applications-2018.09.28.txz download failure (Invalid URL / Server error response) Downloaded directly from https://github.com/Squidly271/community.applications/blob/master/plugins/community.applications.plg and attempted to install after copying to the flash and got this next error: plugin: installing: /boot/bak-plug/community.applications.plg plugin: file doesn't exist or xml parse error I'm stumped, hoping it's just some network weirdness but wanted to give a heads up Edit: MAY have found the issue? System log is full. I have a sneaking suspicion that's causing me problems. Once I figure out how to flush it I'll try again. Rebooting isn't an option right now Edit2: Was able to do a clean install from the link at the start of this thread after clearing a little space for syslog. Ugh! atop logging had filled my log directory not syslog much to my surprise. Two large files multiple days old were responsible - not sure WTF but deleted them.
  6. I guess I need to poke around a bit more and find this? The "docker way" is to keep things external to the container obviously but I've never been able to figure out where the build scripts and whatnot are stored - important to me since I need to mod one 😮 Edit: Ah ha? \\SERVER\flash\config\plugins\dockerMan\templates-user
  7. Wow, so far this is looking like EXACTLY what I needed and way simpler than a script I'd build! Much appreciated! I'm still confused on where the various build scripts and whatnot are stored if not in the docker.img. Not sure how some of this works under the covers and when I try to describe this to people I know who understand containers they scratch their heads lol
  8. I'll take a look at this. Perhaps I've assumed there's too much in my image file? Some of my containers have added paths in their config and whatnot, my assumption was that this was stored there - no?
  9. I'd like to backup my data created by my Containers and I'd like to backup the Docker.img file if possible. I already backup to a cloud service using rclone but the myriad of tiny files for things like Emby and Plex bring rclone to its knees. I'd like to instead tar up my files to another directory and send the larger file to the cloud. So far I've been able to build a script that lists the directories individually but would prefer an iterative script. The larger problem though is that the containers are all still running, the docker.img changes as a result and it's possible other files may change too. How best to stop the running containers and then restart them? Since I don't run all containers all the time just stopping them all and starting them all is not the way to go, maybe just start the ones marked for autostart? Has anyone done this or have something I could start from? I was just going to run it via user scripts as I do rclone now.
  10. Hmm, some weirdness. I removed the plg manually and the directory as well, no joy. Put the directory back and it refuses to install as it says this is the same version. Replaced the PLG with a copy from the "old versions" directory. It attempts to install but again claims that the file is corrupt. I can open the file via 7zip and extract the tar, I can open that file too with 7zip. Both the PLG and the TXZ have current file dates with versions that match the latest. Permissions issue or some weirdness maybe? Something funky going on, I think I'll reboot when I'm able and with crossed fingers see if things return to normal Okay, bounced it and the apps tab is back. It also acted as if this was the first time installing the plug-in which seems right. Dunno', something maybe screwed up tar? Doesn't look like an issue on your end so I'll shrug and keep on trucking
  11. Ah, I see what's going on! Looks like a file is corrupt. +============================================================================== | Installing new package /boot/config/plugins/community.applications/community.applications-2018.10.28a-x86_64-1.txz +============================================================================== Verifying package community.applications-2018.10.28a-x86_64-1.txz. 12. Sumthin' odd happened. Tried to install a new container and got dumped to the screen to build my own template, hit back and got dumped to my server's homepage. Noticed there was an update to the Community app available, installed it successfully according to the dialog, interface seemed a little slow, went back to install the container and my Apps tab was missing. Seen this before so I tried to remove the CA plugin and the dialog told me it wasn't there and it got removed from the interface. Used the URL here to reinstall and the tab hasn't come back but I appear to be on the 10-28a release successfully. I can see from above it looks like GitHub may be having issues, the status page linked says they're still "red" as of this morning. Not to pile on but just wanted to let you know things still might be dorked up. Might explain why the initial container attempt failed too. <shrug> No biggie, I'll play with other things. Really appreciate the effort and the software for sure!
  13. Updated to 6.5.3 and ran into this same exact issue. Running sensors at the commandline throws multiple errors. Even better, my Telegraf container refused to start and was throwing errors about lm_sensors too. Pulled a backup config I'd saved on my flash, pasted it into Nano, and got my server reading temps again. Reloaded Telegraf, bashed ionto it, loaded sensors, and now it works too. Yeesh, glad I posted something here or I'd have had to research it all over again! Here's the working config: # sensors chip "coretemp-isa-0001" label "temp1" "CPU Temp" chip "coretemp-isa-0000" label "temp1" "MB Temp"
  14. Okay, I think I've got something! If you run sensors from the commandline, in my case, it had issues parsing multiple lines of a config file root@BLKMGK:~# sensors Error: File /etc/sensors.d/sensors.conf, line 2: Undeclared bus id referenced Error: File /etc/sensors.d/sensors.conf, line 4: Undeclared bus id referenced Error: File /etc/sensors.d/sensors.conf, line 6: Undeclared bus id referenced Error: File /etc/sensors.d/sensors.conf, line 12: Undeclared bus id referenced sensors_init: Can't parse bus name I went into that file and removed the offending lines from the config. Rerunning Sensors I now get the following: root@BLKMGK:/etc/sensors.d# sensors coretemp-isa-0001 Adapter: ISA adapter CPU Temp: +49.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 0: +45.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 1: +50.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 2: +46.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 3: +47.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 4: +44.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 5: +49.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 6: +42.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 7: +46.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) i350bb-pci-0600 Adapter: PCI adapter loc1: +68.0°C (high = +120.0°C, crit = +110.0°C) nct7904-i2c-0-2d Adapter: SMBus I801 adapter at 1180 in1: +1.06 V in2: +1.10 V in3: +1.49 V in4: +1.27 V in5: +1.27 V in6: +0.63 V in7: +1.81 V in8: +0.81 V in9: +1.03 V in10: +0.81 V in11: +1.34 V in12: +1.35 V in13: +1.35 V in14: +1.35 V in15: +3.37 V in16: +3.19 V in20: +3.37 V fan1: 0 RPM fan2: 1668 RPM fan3: 1721 RPM fan4: 1776 RPM fan5: 1776 RPM fan6: 1755 RPM fan7: 1741 RPM fan8: 1773 RPM temp1: +48.0°C temp2: +0.0°C temp3: +0.0°C coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter MB Temp: +47.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 0: +43.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 1: +42.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 2: +44.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 3: +43.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 4: +44.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 5: +47.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 6: +47.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) Core 7: +42.0°C (high = +80.0°C, crit = +90.0°C) I have now modified the sensors.conf file located on the flash drive at config/plugins/dynamix.system.temp in hopes that on reboot it will load properly. Using the "rescan" button on the System Temp page now shows me my temps!!!! I am also seeing FAN SPEEDS! First time for that one Any chance we could maske that page display more entires, I have a bunch of fans in this box lol. Aww crap, as soon as I "apply" it all goes away the config file is rewritten when I hit the Apply button. Is there a way to solve this? Ha, manually edited it again, hit rescan, applied what I want, and instead of hitting Apply hit Done and was able to keep my temps - woohoo!
  15. SAME exact issue! I had it working for awhile and then one day went into the drop downs and noticed additional sensors. Configured them and as soon as I hit Save it ALL stopped working. No more system temps for me, driving me crazy! coretemp nct7904 is what mine detects as <sigh> Typing sensors in the shell givers me "Error: File /etc/sensors.d/sensors.conf, line 2: Undeclared bus id referenced" Supermicro - X9DRi-LN4+/X9DR3-LN4+
  16. Take a pair of needle nose pliers and grab thje back after removing the tray. On one of my systems I had SSD inserted with no tray at all for awhile until an adapter was found and I could pull it out buried deep in the bay with a pair of pliers no problem. The insertion force is pretty near zero!
  17. Will you consider adding Calibre to this? You guys seem to be keeping pretty up to date and Calibre added to this would be wonderful! I've been trying to manually configure LL and Calibre in a VM and have just about thrown in the towel lol. Seeing a pretty weird error from the latest LL pull too where apparently their database format changed and caused an error, think it was an update today that did it as it worked earlier in the day and then died after a new pull from GIT so beware.
  18. Why not buy a board with a slot for a SAS card? A flashed Perc 310 will support 8 drives!
  19. Okay a BIG heads up! The Norco will no way no how fit this board nor cool it without dual active sinks :-( I’m going to have to spring for a Supermicro chassis to fit and cool it - $$! Still figuring it out and seeking help but wanted folks to know about the fitment issue, hubris got me! Looks like I need something with a SAS2 backplane, I’ll upgrade fans, reuse my SAS cards, and potentially retire the Norco maybe. I have REALLY liked this chassis too and experienced no issues, love the trays! Supermicro I’m less thrilled with but it’s closer to a real industrial server, heaven help me...
  20. My parts are all awaiting a good downtime window, likely Sunday! I’m somewhat concerned about heatsink cooling as I’ve not got s formed duct that I think these fanless heatsinks want. If I could find a 60mm 4wire somewhere I’d add a couple. I may have to do some CAD (cardboard aided design) or perhaps 3D print something. I’m trying to avoid spending much more on CPU coolers lol. Pretty sure those Supermicro chassis he’s linked have the proper ducting BTW so you wouldn’t have these issues using them. I REALLY like the Norco chassis I have and it uses standard PSU too. I bought some expander cards but probably won’t use them. I’ll be interested to see if my parity syncs speeds up, one of my expansion cards may not be getting full bandwidth right now but I’m not sure. The increase in CPU horsepower will certainly be noticeable but I’m not sure it’s needed for the current workloads. I’m sure I can fix that :-) Stay tuned!
  21. I was moving from ReiserFS so yeah it was time! I've been using unRAID a very very long time and there was finally a good reason to move to a new filesystem, crypto! I was on travel part of the time which is why using a portable device was so important. It's nice to be sitting in a bar somewhere on wifi and remote in to move things around
  22. So my current machine has lost it's video somehow and only has 4 cores in its ancient CPU. It was built as a cheap whitebox ESX server that hosted unRAID before I put unRAID on bare metal to try KVM and Docker. It's a pretty old build that's showing its age compared to some of the newer thoroughbreads. The ESX went to a used G6 DL360 with dual 6core CPU stuffed full of memory that's actually really quiet. I have slowly begun to play with KVM more with the 6.4 release and Spaceinvader's videos are spurring me to ever more interesting uses of my hardware. Yeah, time to upgrade the old beast I think! As such I went on a small Ebay buying spree tonight :-O 2x E5-2650 8core 16thread CPU that will replace my single E3-1220 4core CPU, 2x 32Gig kits of DDR3 ECC RAM, 1x Supermicro X9DRi-LN4F+ motherboard. I have 32Gig of DDR3 in my existing box that I think will work in this system too so 96Gigs? Hopefully the powersupply in the box is up to snuff for this, it's running 17 HDD right now and these CPU will be adding 100watts more. Hmm, maybe when it's open I can take a look and see what it's rated for? 750watts is what I'm guessing, I'm hoping I bought bigger. I REALLY don't want to have to replace it as I've got hours in customizing the stupid wiring harness to remove about 6inches of extra wire it had. I've already got SAS RAID cards with SATA breakout cables in a NORCO 24bay chassis so that's covered but the link below mentions some interesting chassis ideas that others might like. I have a fan wall with larger fans that "should" be quieter and move more air I'll put in while the system is down, it's been in a box for a year+ w/fans. This is all for my big unRAID box that runs 1 Win10 VM on it and a few containers but I intend to build a High Sierra VM to play with too and probably lots more. I'll have the horsepower for it! I did hold back from buying dual 10core CPU, the added cost just didn't seem worth it but is an option in the future perhaps My ESX server could use some love too, how well does unRAID serve an ESX machine with NFS? Upgrading the 1U ESX machine with some consumer grade SSD is something I'm pondering since supposedly some SSD work fine and don't freak out the RAID controller or temp sensors. I'm nervous about doing that though I could sure use the space and IOPS. Using the storage on my unRAID is tempting! A third machine I've got could run FreeNAS to provide fast(er) storage off retired drives but it sounds like a jet plane when powered up Using my existing NAS could be worth a shot and I'd love to hear from others who have tried it else I'll just give it a shot and see lol. BTW before I grabbed this used hardware for the upgrade I'm about to do I looked seriously into buying newer hardware as this stuff is still a generation or three behind current (Sandybridge era). However the newer Intel hardware uses DDR4 memory which is INSANELY priced and the CPU cost cubic dollars too. I also seriously looked at AMD Threadripper and Ryzen stuff too but you guys running unRAID on AMD are having issues that scare the crap out of me, I like my uptime! Drama like that I sure don't need on a stable box but I'm open to doing it in the future and perhaps on a test box one day. I blame this guy for giving me evil ideas!
  23. One thing mentioned I'd echo is that a cancel button would be helpful. I've found that if I have SSH access I can kill an RSYNC process and bring it down but it's not graceful and not something I'd expect a novice to be comfortable with. That said, I was able to use this tool to successfully move over 35TB of data around to encrypt 16 devices. I still haven't done my cache but it's on the list - I think that can be done? Anyway, unBALANCE, the Krusader container, and MidnightCommander were all very helpful and I appreciate the effort that's gone into this tool - thank you!!
  24. On my Chrome equipped desktop I also see where expanding a large number of directories expands into the disks listed below if that's what you're describing above. I generally try to move at the top level to avoid this. I have seen the size issue as well and increased my minimum space. It doesn't seem consistent though and appears better with this last release? I've been careful to move drive to drive and not give it much space to have to calculate on it's own
  25. Okay, with Chrome on iPad no change. Likewise on my iPhone with an up to date iOS.
