  1. I have unraid Version 6.6.6 I was notified that plugin Dynamix System Statistics required updating but when I update it I get this error: plugin: updating: dynamix.system.stats.plg plugin: installed Unraid version is too low, require at least version 6.7.0-rc0i Since the new version of Unraid is a Release Canadiate, why would I be asked to upgrade a plugin that requires that I upgrade to a release candidate (which I will not do at this time)?
  2. reallocated sectors, where did you see that?
  3. The Disk was disabled immediately after reboot. If that helps any.
  4. I am wondering if I should do a parity check now or troubleshoot this issue first.
  5. I have successfully upgraded from 6.3.5 to 6.6.1. updated all the plugins and other stuff related to the UnRaid OS
  6. Diagnostics is a good suggestion, thank you. I don't think its a cable as I have replaced the cable from the one on the motherboard to one on the HBA tv-diagnostics-20181004-1814.zip
  7. I am troubleshooting an unraid system for a friend. Drive 4 is showing Faulty. Why? it is showing good SMART indicators and it feels like it spins up. I have placed this in a linux system and was able to successfully mount the file system. Attached is a picture of the Dashboard Yes I do have other drives showing problems. but I need to tackle one problem at a time. Thanks for your help Sincerely, Sideband Samurai
  8. I have 32GB RAM in my server, it allows me to spin up virtual machines at will as well as use Docker. I don't have to thing to worry about when it comes RAM, I can just do what ever I want to do. Also I believe Plex will allow you to trans-code to RAM which will be faster than SSD. Don't quote me on that though as I am a newbie at Plex at this time. I currently have PFSense, Plex, a Linux VM, and other various plugins running on my Unraid. At the time I bought the RAM it hurt the pocket book but I have never regretted it. I am running an older super micro mother board, and was going to virtualize unRAID in Vmware under ESXI, until they started supporting virtualization themselves. Now I run Unraid bare metal. I have a small ESXI for lab work. There is a really good series of youtube articles put out by "Space Invader One" He posts here frequently as well. You should look to you tube and search for his name. His videos are the best. He even has a build video of the system he built under unraid. Maybe those will give you ideas.
  9. So when you get a 12TB drive how long does it take to prepare it for the array. I usually like to run the check 10 times to make sure the drive is working properly but it sounds like it will take several days to zero out the drive. then to repeat this 10 times, it will take a month just to upgrade one drive. That is if you do them one at a time.
  10. Power consumption is the main consideration. You might also consider the lack of features, like does the processor or motherboard support Vxd, and Iommu for creating virtual machines, and passing through devices, like video cards, network cards and such. Personally I went with a low end Xeon, with 32gb ram and I have been absolutely thrilled with it. I never thought I would need that much RAM, but I am glad I have it now. I run Plex media server, PFSense, and spool up virtual machines from time to time and I am toying with creating a gaming VM and passing through an Nvidia graphics card so I don't have to have a workstation at my desk. My suggestion is buy as much processor you can and match a motherboard to it, then build around that configuration like adding ram, hard drives case and so forth.
  11. I had my ESXI server hardware crashed recently. The OS and data are one hard drive. The Hard Drive is just fine, but the hardware will no longer boot ESXI. It keeps locking up. I would like to setup a VM in unRAID to boot off of the hard drive. This is only a temporary solution until I can get the hardware together to replace the failed system.
  12. Just to let you know that the Preclear plugin has been updated to work with version 6.5.0 by the author. information on that update can be seen here: This was posted by the author a few days ago. Make sure you update via Community apps plugin or manually as per the above thread. Sincerely, Sideband Samurai

  14. Hi Everyone, I am building a new server my old server needs to be upgraded. My old server was an HP XW4300 with 1.5mb RAM and 3 3TB hard drives. I have been running on 5.06 basic for a while. Now that I am out of space its just time to upgrade. So here is what I have purchased. Most of this stuff I purchased a couple of years ago, and I just recently picked up the last of the parts. With out furter ado here is my new hardware. Supermicro X9SCM-F-O Xeon E3-1240 3.3Ghz Procesor LGA1155 32 Gig Kingston KVR16E11k4/32. This is not the Intel certified ram but seems to be working. Intel Certified RAM will have an I after the 32, and cost a bit more. 3 5x3 Norco SS-500 drive cages. I will be upgrading the internal fans to the Coolink SWiF-801 80mm fans for quiet operation. My order mistakenly has an SWiiF2-800 fan which I will be using but the only difference is the speed. The 800 runs at 1100rpm and the 801 runs at 1500. I don't think with these high quality fans that drive cooling will suffer. Antec Nine Hundred case. Specifically selected to house the 15 drives I want to install. (2) IBM M1015 HBA controller card. which will be flashed to IT mode. I had 3 but I traded one of these cards to a friend for an 12 drive unraid PLUS license he had lying around. Seasonic X Series 750W 80 Plus Gold Certified Power supply. Some people may think this is overkill. I have read too many articles where the builder simply did not have an adequate power supply and just caused all sorts of parity issues with hard drives. I was not going to go that route. I selected this equipment because at the time it was going to be used as an ESXI LAB and Unraid server. Now with Unraid supporting KVM, well I am just going to go that route. So as the story goes up to this point. for the last 3 years or so I have been slowly collecting the parts mentioned above when finally a month ago a friend of mine needed more hard drive slots. I had the IBM M1015 card and he had the Plus license, which was on 5.01 at the time. So I traded him and upgraded to 6.1.9 and placed it in my current server. This server has been rock solid ever since I put it together. After 24hrs the server locked up for the first time ever. Thought this was odd (it had a kernel panic) so I rebooted restarted the array and walked away. Next day I was watching a movie and the movie stopped, and upon investigation, I saw the server in Kernel Panic mode again. I rebooted it as there really was nothing I could do. Next SMB stopped working, and I stopped and started the service and it has been working with out a single reboot ever since. I am thinking since I only have 1.5gb RAM that this is really the true issue and just need to get the server upgraded properly. Now comes the build. Yes Pictures are on the way, but I have to get this out of my head first. I decided that I was going to bench test all the equipment before installing into the case. So after I painstakingly verified that all the equipment would work as purchased, I opened up the motherboard, installed the processor and Intel fan. You know I just hate these fans, they never secure them selves properly to the motherboard. They are just crap. I may replace this later but for now its working I installed the RAM placed the system board on top of the box it came in which was on top of the foam that shipped inside the box on top of the anti static bag the board came in. I hooked up the fan to Header 2, then I hooked up the power supply and powered it on. No video. The fan would spin up to full speed then settle down to idle but no beep no video. I did not hear any post codes just nothing. Verified that the onboard video was enabled. It was So I moved the cpu fan from FAN 2 to FAN A. Made sure everything was set right and started the system again. This time I got the IPMI is initializing, a reboot then no video. I unplugged the CPU and looked at the manual some more, verified that the CPU and memory were correct, and restarted the system again. This time it booted. I set the time in the bios but it just kept locking up. The PLUS key would not work and a bunch of other odd stuff was happening. Frustrated, I took the USB keyboard off and used a standard ps/2 mouse and keyboard. I have had systems that actually require the use of a PS/2 keyboard if the port is present. This seemed to clear the instability up a bit more. The system restarted with the new keyboard attached, and I set the date and time. I have not made any other changes at this point and i booted the Unraid USB key to begin the MEMTEST 5.01 phase of this project. The system tested for about 8 hours, which accounted to two complete passes of the 32GB of ram. The CPU was running around 56C. I have seen higher on some systems so that looked ok to me. I then accidentally tapped a key on the keyboard and the system locked up. No numlock and it stopped testing the RAM. I powered it off powered it back on it started the test again and about 15 minutes later it locked up again. I powered off the system, and began thinking it was over heating. but what would be causing the over heating. The heatsink was cool to the touch. I picked up the system board from its "Test Bench" and found the under side was really hot. I thought what the heck? I lightly touched the metal heat sink on the bottom and it must have been at lest 60 or 70c. I did not burn myself. but I left the system off to cool down. It quickly cooled off and I noticed that the plastic bag had started to melt, and at that point I decided that the way I was testing the mother board was not going to work. After the bottom heat sink was cool to the touch, I set the system board on its edge against a couple of boxes to allow good airflow to the underside of the system. Powered on and started the test. This time the CPU temp is between 48 and 50C. Much cooler. Right now the system is burning in with the memory test running. If it does not lock up and it passes 10 memory tests, I will then move the board into the case. The antec case is really nice, I needed to bend the hard drive tabs down to that I can accommodate the SS-500 drive cages I bought. That was not a really big deal to do. Now I am about to install the SWif2 fans into the Norco Drive cages. This article helped me in selecting my fans. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=15916.0 This looks to be a very simple process as I simply remove the 4 screws on the plastic housing, remove the fan connector from the back plane, remove the 4 screws holding the fan to the plastic shroud and swap the fan. I will post more as I progress. ~Sideband Samurai
  15. Try something simple like running with no packages or plugins to see if the problem re-occurs. If it does you might have a hardware issue. -- Sideband Samurai
  16. Yes its ok to power off. I have seen this before and it looks like maybe a driver was hung when you issued the shutdown command. - Sideband Samurai
  17. Like your signature file too. I like it so much, I am thinking about copying it. Very cool!
  18. I would NEVER use unraid as a NAT firewall. There are too many security issues to think about when it comes to NAT. If Tom is trying to add traffic shaping to improve performance, I feel he is barking up the wrong tree. Traffic shaping should be handled by the router. For me that would be Smoothwall, though there are others. Smoothwall express 3.0 has some QOS built into the software, which helps with performance. This seems to work real well for me. Here is a screen shot of the QOS settings in Smoothwall express: Sideband Samurai
  19. All is good it is no disconecting from the network when copying. the ultimate solution was to make sure the BIOS was set to AHCI to ensure the system properly detected all drives as sata. Thanks for all you help. Sideband Samurai
  20. Well After further testing failed, we decided to shutdown the dataserver (yea that's its name) went to the dataserver console and restarted it. Several small issues were bothering us. One the date and time was ahead by over 24 hrs. Second, is it would not automatically boot from the flash drive. The third was this anomaly where one of the drives was reporting "HDx" instead of "SDx". We reset the date and time with in the bios to local time. We made sure the FLASH drive was set as priority. We checked "Hard drive Emulation". This setting controls weather or not the SATA controller emulates an IDE drive or AHCI. Looking at the setting it was set to IDE. We reset this BIOS setting to AHCI. Rebooted the server and began a new round of testing. The first test, copy one file from Windows 8.1 to the dataserver was successful. The second test, copy 10 files from windows 8.1 to dataserver was in process when I left his home. Since I did not have time to stick around. I will post to see how things went. --Sideband Samurai

  22. I have done an additional test on the dataserver this evening. I had my friend copy a file from the Windows 8.1 machine to the data server. I then started a ping -t dataserver to monitor weather or not it would actually disconnect from the network. As the file started coping about 30 seconds after, the ping started reporting "Destination host unreachable". It reported this about 9 times then it started responding to pings again. -- Sideband Samurai
  23. They don't, he selected 60 files to copy, only 5 would copy to the sever before timing out. the network performance is very slow, between 11mb and 20mb a sec. --Sideband Samurai
  24. DO NOT run reiserfsck rebuild-tree without running with check first. reiserfsck will specify the action to be take after the check. rebuild-tree is not always the correct action and running it may completely trash your file-sstem. Additionally, running reiserfsck check with incorrect arguments will cause it to specify the wrong action and you will completely trash your file system. You will TRASH YOUR FILE SYSTEM if reiserfsck is used incorrectly. Ok, Since he is my neighbor, I can run over there real quick. What is the recommended command I use to check to make sure the file system is ok?
