Dell PERC H730 Mini - HBA Mode - Non Dell Drive
Copey replied to Copey's topic in Storage Devices and Controllers
Thanks - the drive doesnt seem to me making it to unraid. I can see it in the idrac and bios but nowhere else. I thought id found it using sg_map, but it looks like it was showing the backplane (BP13G+) and not the drive? lsscsi.txt -
Hi, I've happily been using the 4no. 1.2tb SAS drives that came with my Dell R530 - No problems at all. I picked up a fifth drive (matching part number etc) that isn’t Dell branded and the server refuses to make it available as a physical drive? Standard SATA drives are detected without issue so I assume its something on/in the new drive that’s causing it... I swapped the H730 back to RAID mode, but it made no difference. Any pointers to help me resolve this please?

Wow, Unraid sure has broken free of being a storage system that utilised old random hard drives! So many things to learn/relearn

New hardware & drives - only the usb stick is original.

Long story short - purchased my license back in 2009’ish and used Unraid till about 2013/14. Moved to a Synology unit as it was family/user friendly. Skip to yesterday and me watching an Aussie youtuber using Unraid to run VMs and docker - I was searching for Proxmox guides, for a Dell server I’d got off eBay, and ended up blowing dust off my old Lexar Firefly stick. One licence refresh later and my server is building its parity drive!

5.0-rc11 on HP N40L - Poor internal write speeds 15MB/s
Copey replied to Copey's topic in General Support (V5 and Older)
Ah, I thought I had but it doesn't appear to have saved when I exited the bios Write speeds are now a steady 34MB/s Thanks for the replies folks! J -
Hi All, I've set-up a HP N40L to act as an off-site backup to my Synology box, but am experiencing really poor write speeds during local testing - Using midnight commander I am only seeing 15MB/s on disk to disk transfers! Version 5.0-rc11 Disks are 3no. 3tb WD Reds (1no. parity & 2no. storage) and 2no. 1tb Samsung F2 (1no. storage & 1no. cache) which have all seen previous action and performed much better. BIOS is modified and adjusted as per the guides on the net. hdparm giving me read speeds of 150 MB/s. Parity sync and new writes only hit 25MB/s So, is this just a limitation of the hardware or should I be seeing faster writes? Its been awhile since I used unraid but I'm sure it was quicker than this! Many thanks, J 130311-214800_syslog.txt

Hi Joe L. Apologies, not shooting the messenger at all. I'm not a Linux guru by any measure, so please forgive my ignorance I had experienced 100% reliability using 10 of these drives until I started using unmenu. I'm assuming that I am calling the 'identify' command whilst I'm fumbling around unmenu and triggering the fault? I have already contacted Samsung to advise them of this issue... I just hope that they are prepared to do something about it! Cheers

Mmm, I think I may have had a similar problem with Samsung HD103SI drives Recently started using unmenu 'mymain' to check write/transfer speeds whenever I send data to my server, and (by coincidence) I've gone thro' a bunch of HD103SI drives! I had put it down to a faulty batch of drives, but now I'm not so sure, I'm not blaming umenu... but simply pointing out the link. AFAIK, unmenu seems to work ok with other HDD brands???

Hi, thanks for the heads-up on the X-case product. Can anyone recommend a motherboard please? It looks like I will need a minimum of 3 pci-e slots to take 3 AOC-SASLP-MV8 Thanks again.

Hi all, My own server (based around a P5 VM-DO) has been quietly ticking away and gobbling up movies and music for many moons and I'm very very happy with it I took it to work this week so I could demo some new media systems, and my colleges were so impressed, they asked if I could build one to put in our rack at work! Now, unraid has moved on quite a bit from when I first built my server, and most of the components that were 'stable' are no longer available. So..., could one of you kind souls (that enjoys specifying ) please recommend a list of components that are currently stable, available and shippable to the UK? Requirements: It needs to be a rack mount case 4-5 U 20+ drives would be nice. It needs to be easily upgradable i.e. backplanes, hot-swap etc. All add-on cards etc. will be purchased now so we don't have to worry later on. It will need UPS protection (are these supported now?) I haven't been given a budget, but please try to keep it in the spirit of unraid I appreciate that this is all in the forum & wiki... unfortunately I just don't have time to read thro' it all and pick out the meat from the bones. Thanks in advance for any help!

Nice one! Thanks a lot for this. I will give it a whirl when I get back later.

I've just given beta 13 a spin and noticed this line (4th one) in my syslog regarding the network adapter: Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e: Intel® PRO/1000 Network Driver - 1.0.2-k2 Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e: Copyright © 1999-2008 Intel Corporation. Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e 0000:00:19.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 20 Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e 0000:00:19.0: pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting failed 0xfffffffb Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e 0000:00:19.0: setting latency timer to 64 Dec 7 12:33:52 Tower kernel: e1000e 0000:00:19.0: irq 27 for MSI/MSI-X Does it look like immanent hardware failure? I will go back to an earlier version and check but I'm sure its new... M/B is the P5B VM-DO with Intel Gigabit. Cheers

Hi, I have quite a large collection of Movies & TV Shows that I originally stored in .iso format. For one reason or another I now want to revert to folders with .vobs etc. Is there a way I can unrar/unpack the .iso on the server? At the mo' I've been copying the .iso files to a local machine, using winrar to unpack them before sending back to the server :'( ...I know you can mount an .iso but I was hoping for a way to do a batch at a time. Thanks for any help on offer!

NAS, What 'cataloging' are you referring too... the library files? (db files)
