Ihave a technical question: my sagetv server is attached to an APc ups in slave mode and my unraid box is master. i am out of town and my sage server has crashed and is unaceesible either by logmein or splahtop. i need to reboot the sage server and want to know if it is possible to power down the ups forcing attached computers to shut off and then get the ups back on line hopefully rebooting the computers . not sure if the WOL will work but that way i can give it a shot. i have 5b14 installed with the apcupsd plugin, have set kill ups to yes and nothing has mhappened. is there a command via telnet( i have another computer on the network that is up and running for use to control the unraid box) that i can use to shut down the ups device. is there also some other method that folks use to remotely force a reset, warm boot of computer that are no longer accessible?? thx

any chance that you could make this solution to setup airprint on UNRAID available to the community? I have a network printer brother hl-2170W that I would like to setup for my iphone and Ipad to print to...it would be much appreciated by myself and the community i'm sure! thanks.

In the process of upgrading my server from the icy dock non-hot swap cages in my CM 590 case to hot swap cages. Decided to go with the 4 tray norco ss-400 but have some questions: will they be compatible with 3 tb drives and does only one of the molex power connectors need to be attached to run the 4 drives? If they are not compatible with eventual 3tb drives, is there a cheap 4 in 3 cage that is rated well by fellow unraiders? Thanks.

Hi all...read through multiple posts but still no answer. was originally using version 4.7 and had an issue with being unable to delete a folder from my disk 1 in array. using Pro license.so i replaced that drive (remembered it had some errors in the past) after being unsuccessful with reisferck...drive replaced, data rebuilt and I also upgraded to ver5b7 as was still having issue with reading to disk 1. win 7 tells me that I don't have permission to access directory. now it won't let me access any of the shares on the unraid server. I have tried new permissions, allowing it to complete fully on the page, tried adding a user but when I press apply and done, no user other than root is displayed. I had the same issue with ver 4.7...at a loss now as to why my server access is getting more restricted and would like some assisstance. Just to clarify, this was not a problem until about 3 weeks ago where i tried to delete a blu ray folder and was unable to. Since it was a minor problem then, i waited until now, but it seems to have worsened. thanks. syslog.pdf

" sorry about not getting this...does that mean i enable disk smb read/write access (already done and I can see the disks on my network browser) and then just copy my files to the drives in question..ie: copy several genres from the Movies directory to one drive, another few to another drive, documents and software to another drive.... when you say use them for reading initially is that just for having the unraid setup the directories on the disks...then i just write directly to those directories as i see fit...when when I need to read those files, i have the HTPC just map to the user share? but all copying will be directly to disks, the user shares just setup for mapping purposes? I use sagetv with My movies and I want all my my movies data to be linked to one directory/source...i would prefer not to have the files linked by disk1\movie, disk 2\movie, disk3\movie in the my movies database...rather just say movies\blu-ray movies\avatar....in case my selection of drives changes, i don't want to break my mapping of video destinations...also i don't want to now create a whole alpha betical listing of my movies from scratch...just want to keep them in their genres... if i'm missing something fundamental, please let me know...

for those using only disk shares, what do you do when a set of data ie Movies folder has more files than can be stored on one drive?such as 2.2tb when your largest drive is 1.8tb formatted? i thought that was one of the points of unraid that you could span disks...so if one writes only to disks, is it as secure?

how do i do it from the command line? not familiar with linux?

I recently transfered my movie library 2.1TB onto my unraid server under movies shares with high water and split level 2. i have the files in genres and then each genre has movies in individual directories and those directories have movie files...when i transfered everything i looked on teh disk and found out that several files are on different drives under the same directory of movie... for example Movies share-action genre-300 folder-movie,folder.jpg files...so i thought split level 2 would avoid the separation ofr the movie file from the folder.jpg data on different drives...however that hasn't been the case....now i want to get the data aggregated back so that rather genres would be spread across drives and keep movie directories/content intact.... so it would be movies share-action, drama,scifi on one disk and movies-comedy,cartoon,exercise on another disk....with all the movies in each genre on its own disk... what are my options? 1. copy genre folders onto the first drive until full? and then spread genres myself? (not efficient way) 2. change split level? would 1 be the number to use? will it update the location of folders automatically or are the file data locations set for the split level 2? 3. do i delete all teh movies completely, then change the split level, and recopy? if the drive being precleared had partitions beforehand does that matter? won't it just erase all partitions? I ask this because one of my drives was used as a WHS system drive and when it worked throught the step 4 it states "clearing MBR for partitions 2,3,4"??

his forum is awesome!!! thanks for all the links...currently have my old rig preclearing 6 disks !! will be curious to see how long it will take...2tbx2,1tbx3, 640gb....when i transfer these precleared disks into my new build, do i need to put them back in the same order there were in for the preclear? sda, sdb...etc..or can i put them in any order into the new array..

good to know Joe L. i was under the mistaken impression that the two processes were equivalent...now my question: can i run preclear on multiple disks at one time? also can i install the drives into their new case/motherboard, and then boot into the root console and run preclear? the reason why i ask is that i'm leaving town on business and would be happy to run preclear on all the drives at one time while i'm away for a week...and then return to set up the array on precleared drives... if so, what would the command line be for multiple disks? thx

thanks so much for the reply, this is great.. So i should be able to place the preclear script onto my flash drive with my current old setup, access the root console, run the preclear script after id'ing the drives and then once the preclears are complete, i can just take those drives out of the old build, transfer them and the USB flash drive to the new build and reboot. the new build should then have the precleared drives assigned according...sound about right? can i run preclear on my 5-6 drives at one time? they are 2tb x2, 1tb x3, 640gb x1. will this take several days and if so, am i better off just building the server tomorrow(when the parts come in) and running the parity check (preclear equivalent if i undertand correctly) which will take that long anyway...i don't want to be waiting for drives to preclear for days when i want to build the new server tomorrow...i really don't need to absolutely transfer data right away so maybe i have the luxury of building the server and doing the checks then. i want to make sure that doing it all after HDD installation with parity check will give me the same benefit as preclear beforehand...thanks, sorry of the newbie questions but just trying to build right the first time.

i have the same thoughts. i am planning on building an array this tuesday when my parts arrive from newegg...i did a trial with my current gigabyte board with 1 parity and 4 data drives, it was still running parity check. i didn't put any data on it..when i setup up my new system with these drives in the new case, can i just run unraid the first time and let it setup the array? will that not do the preclear stuff? i looked at the script but i am confused as to how to designate each drive to preclear? do i do it form the root command line? how do i know that designation to use for the individual drives attached? also, is there anyway to run the script from the webgui?

ordered mine as well...also 590 case, 430 corsair power supply, supermicro card, breakout cables....can't wait...

is there a similar board that is lg 775 compatible to run an e2180 cpu? and ddr2 memory..

any suggestions for an LG775 compatible intel board that can take an old e2180 cpu i have lying around....i have unraid pro so far on a gigabyte ds3r board that doesn't have any settings for HPA in the bios, but i just loaded my fourth disk and noticed that the space allocation for the last drive ended in 496 as opposed to all the others at 552 which i believe indicates that some bios data might have been written to that drive...before i actaully put data on the array, i wanted to upgrade/replace my motherboard...any suggestions?
