  1. Later today I will be able to upgrade from a dual core, non-hyperthreaded Pentium to a dual core, hyperthreaded i3. As my lag and character repetition are about as bad on the physical box running the VM as on a remote PC, I am thinking that the Pentium is underpowered.
  2. So, it looks to be a factor of the read/write speed of the slowest of the two involved in the transfer? I was thinking that it would be that, up to the speed of the data bus, SATA or USB.
  3. Got it up on another tab right now. Thanks. Hope that helps. Also, I will wait until the i3 arrives before trying to move forward. jeff
  4. I'll google VNC client. No Win 10 here, or 8 or 8.1. Windows 7 64-bit throughout. Oh and I have been using a dual core Pentium that doesn't Hyperthread. I just ordered an i3 that does, so hopefully one core and two threads will improve VM performance.
  5. Firefox, the latest version. Why would that matter?
  6. I do use full screen via the VNC button. What is an "actual" VNC client? I am using a Debian VM. Most irksome is the keyboard lag and then character repeating. Any thoughts on that? Thanks, Jeff
  7. My lag is so bad, even on the physical computer running unRAID and the VM, that navigating and entering passwords is nearly impossible. I also get repeating characters from a single momentary key press. Jeff
  8. This has been dogging me since I began trying to run a Debian VM. I select my array as an unRAID share on the VM setup page, but I have never been able to find it within Debian. My array is visible as a SMB share, but not as the mount tag I entered. Any tips? Jeff
  9. I have been mounting an unRAID share, or at least setting up the VM to do so, but have yet to be able to find it in the Linux installed in the VM.
  10. Thanks, I did find another thread re this and didn't get back here fast enough to delete my post. Jeff
  11. I would like to install LinuxMint on a VM. Is there a template? Is there any more to a template than providing the correct icon ... meaning I can use any template I want? Jeff
  12. I will be running JRiver in a Linux VM on an unassigned device (plugin) SSD. At what speed does the VM read/write from/to the array? SATA III, which I'd guess, is limited by my WD REDs? Jeff
  13. I set up a VM and got to the point in my Debian installation where GRUB is to install. It fails. Am using SeaBIOS. (Saw a comment on that somewhere and thought I'd mention it.) Any suggestions? Jeff
  14. Um, and for someone that doesn't speak "command line" I could attach it to a PC and boot into PartEd? Jeff
  15. One final post on this. Moving the USB boot stick to a USB 2.0 port fixed it all! This is weird. I can only speculate that, with the USB 3.x ports being 3.1 (Gen1), Linux support is not yet working properly? Dunno. Anyway, my symptoms, which can be found in the above posts, were all fixed. Jeff
  16. I moved the boot USB to a USB 2.0 port, removed the second drive and rebooted. I was able to change the allocation method AND save it. Now it is checking parity on the 1-drive/parity array. When that is done I will add the second drive and let unRAID have its way with it as well. I am hopeful! Merry Christmas!
  17. Look at previous messages... Enviado de meu SM-G930F usando Tapatalk Gracias.
  18. Where does one get the 2016.12.23a update? Jeff
  19. There are other USB 3.0 ports on the mobo. Perhaps I have it in one that is a 3rd party, i.e. Asmedia or Via as opposed to those on the Intel chipset. I will check that. Plus I have seen suggestions that the the boot stick be on a 2.0 instead of 3.0. If making sure it is on the Intel chipset doesn't help, I will rig a 2.0 port. Jeff
  20. Now the write is back to 4, while the read is still the whatever-is-after-peta-bytes number.
  21. Here is the whacky report on writes/reads wrt the flash drive ...
  22. Reading it again, as misleading as it is, I think it meant that the Flash DRIVE must be installed. <whew>
  23. Pardon me jumping in, but where can I get today's update? The "stable release" lists the latest as 11/5/16 while the prerelease latest is 12/07/16.
  24. Just diving further into the manual and it says that Flash needs to be installed on the server? Unless it is part of the unRAID installation, I don't have Flash on my server?
