  2. Can you point me to the post? I'm having trouble finding it.
  3. They are updated. Unraid's docker update notification is broken. If you switch to advanced view, and force update, you will get the updated version. Thanks! Doing that now. I didn't even know there was an advanced view on that screen. Weird that it's broken now, up until a few months ago the notifier worked fine. Thanks again!
  4. Are binhex's docker containers still being updated? I haven't seen an update to Plex (still sitting on version 0.9.16.6), Couch Potato, or sabnzbd in months. Every time I check, Unraid says they're all up to date. Just want to make sure I don't need to switch to linuxserver or one of the other maintainers. Thanks!
  5. Hi! I recently moved from SickRage to Sonarr for my TV needs, and I need to get an automatic subtitle finder/downloader working on unRAID 6. Subliminal is ideal (I could run it via a cron job or something, or trigger it from Sonarr), but I have no idea how to install it on unRAID 6. Can anyone plugin-ify or Docker-ify it? Please and thank you! https://github.com/Diaoul/subliminal http://subliminal.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
  6. It's OK, I was misunderstanding how the cache drive worked (I thought it was also available when the array was offline), AND I didn't understand that apps all shut down when the array is down. Yeah, I know, weird request. If it's insane and has no legit use, please ignore. I'll just buy the flash drive off my friend (I told him to buy it,
  7. Normally if the array is not active then normally all apps are stopped. As such there is no reason why apps cannot live on an array drive. The normal reason for using a cache drive is improved performance as writes have less overhead. Note that a cache drive is not available either if the array is not active so this is not a solution to keeping apps running all the time. What happens when there are disks that are spun-down from not being read from, and then one of the apps suddenly requires a config/etc file from that drive? Are the apps smart enough to wait for the file to become available? Or is it best to make an "app" share and then tell unRAID not to split the directory, so that all config files are always on one physical disk?
  8. I thought that app/plugin data had to be accessible *outside* the array, meaning that it the array is down that the apps/plugins still need access to their configuration files. Right? Or am I wrong on that? As for the boot drive, I'm run into some very weird issues where I'm not able to do a "chown" command on directories after creating them. Most plugins run as the user "nobody", and I was unable to create directories using the nobody user OR take the directories I created as the root user and then chown them to nobody after creating them when using the boot drive.
  9. If I leave the device permanently mounted, can I use it to store app/plugin data? (sabnzbd, couchpotato, etc) That's the main reason I want to use the USB drive, as storing that stuff on the boot USB drive is problematic at best. Also, having a (slow) cache drive still allows you to have the parity drive (and possibly others) spun down pretty much all the time. And since 99% of the writing to the cache drive would be done without user intervention, I don't really care how long it takes to write to.
  10. Any particular, you know, reason for such a limitation? Rather limiting to have to assign a "for real" SATA device as a device...not everyone has a server with a million SATA ports/drive slots, and a SSD is essentially the same thing as a USB thumb drive, just on a different kind of bus (wear-leveling, etc not withstanding). Linux doesn't care what's actually behind a given device designation, I just want to say "UnRAID! Use device sdb as the cache device!". Everything is a file to Linux anyway.
  11. I thought I had read about people using external USB drives as an UnRAID device, which would be the same thing. Is there some kind of override? Or a way to fool unRAID into thinking it's a ATA/IDE device? This seems like a weird limitation, especially when I want to use the device as a cache drive, not even in the array. A USB device is good enough to *boot* from, but not use as a cache drive?
  12. I'm setting up a server for a friend of mine and we decided to use a 64GB USB flash drive as his cache drive. We have the server set up and running just fine with 3x3TB drives (2 data, 1 parity), but I CANNOT get the USB drive to show up in the assignment list dropdown! I know the drive works fine and is readable, as I can use the "Unassigned Devices" plugin to see the flash drive (shows up as device sdb) and mount it (ntfs formatted at the moment). It also shows up with the correct size when doing "cat /proc/dev" So why can't I get it to show up in the unassigned list? If there's some built-in "you really shouldn't be assigning flash drives to the array" check, can I override it? He has the "Basic" license for unRAID 6, so he should be able to use 4 devices (1 parity, 2 data, 1 cache), but I don't think that would be the issue anyway...even in trial mode you can "see" all available drives, even if you can't start the array with them assigned. Thanks!
  13. Thank you! Yes, I do understand that. It's certainly possible I did delete something and then it was overwritten with a smaller file. However I'm surprised it was still showing 100% when it only had 1MB or so left available. I thought maybe there was some flag that unRaid set that said a disk was "full" and was no longer eligible for writing, and MyMain was using that determination to show FULL. So I thought the switch to 100% might have been a symptom of an underlying cause in UnRaid, because it appeared to coincide with when unRaid started writing to disk1 again when it had previously been writing to disk2, which is what I wanted/expected. I guess I'll just have to switch to high-water. Ah well.
  14. I'm using the "Fill-Up" method (with a cache drive) and I have the min space set to 20GB (20000000) for my share. I also have split-level set to nothing (field is empty, so I assume the value is 0?) For a while now, disk1 has been showing as "FULL" and everything was being written to disk2, which is what I want. I like it this way so that a minimum # of disks are spinning when doing reads. Now today, suddenly, I had mover errors overnight where it said I was out of disk space. Sure enough, MyMain was now showing disk1 as "100%" instead of "FULL", and it only had 1MB of space left (!!). I'm not sure exactly how much free space was left on disk1 before it suddenly went from FULL to 100%....my question is, why did this happen? What triggers MyMain to show a disk as FULL vs 100% (or whatever the fill percentage is). I haven't changed the "Fill-Up" free space value, so I'm confused why unRaid suddenly decided to start writing to disk1 again. I realize this isn't a problem with MyMain, but it's the only place where I saw the change from FULL to 100%, so something changed "under the hood". Thanks in advance for your help!
  15. Yeah, we could sell off the 2 Reds for about $140 for the pair, probably. And yeah, license is important too! Which we will need.
  16. You know what? 5 drives would be enough, something like this would be acceptable: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11585.0
  17. I'm an idiot, I thought that server held only a single HDD. Now I see it can hold 4. Duh.
  18. I have one "near enough" that I could make the drive (maybe 20 miles away). I do have a TigerDirect store extremely close to me, though, so that would work even better if you can find something there. I suppose having a "pre-built" server would be worth a bit of a premium, just so I don't have to build it. Thanks!!
  19. Nah, he just uses it for a samba share to his WDTV set-top box. He does transcoding on his Windows desktop if necessary. No media server software. FYI: Part of the reason I wanted to go with an Atom board is that the CPU and on-board video are already built-in, so I don't have to buy and install those separately. If you can design a build for less than $350 (+ hard drives), I'm game for anything. To be clear, I do have a unRaid box at home, but it was built by someone else and I bought it on craigslist (with no drives). So I'm 100% familiar with setting up unRaid. It's a 3U beast with room for 12 drives; I need something smaller for him. If you want a requirements list: (a) MoBo able to talk to 6 3.5" drives (preferably without extra shenanigans like PCI cards) (b) Case that can hold 6 3.5" drives, doesn't have to be hot-swap. © "Mini-tower" size or smaller. Doesn't have to be tiny, but it can't be some big rack-mount beast. (d) As cheap as possible (e) Can run UnRaid (duh). 4 drives is not enough, gotta be 6.
  20. He has a large media collection that is rapidly getting out of hand. He currently has 3x 3TB usb external drives, each about 50% full, that he leaves connected to his Windows PC all the time, each set up as a separate share. No backups, no parity drive, etc. We recently had a scare where one of the drives showed up as "RAW" in Windows and I had to rescue the files via TestDisk onto separate media before sending the bad drive in for warranty replacement. So 250GB is waaaaaaay too small, as he already has 4.5TB+ of media. Since he already has 3x 3TB drives, I should be able to backup/de-case/insert into array/repopulate the disks one by one, plus get one extra for parity.
  21. I'm attempting a "budget build" for a friend of mine who desperately needs a real media server, and I've never built anything from scratch before (although I have plenty of hardware servicing experience). Thoughts on this build? Anything that won't work/I'm missing? UPDATED: Motherboard/CPU: Supermicro X7SPA-H-D525-O Intel Atom D525/ Intel ICH9R/ DDR3/ V&2GbE/ Mini ITX Server Motherboard (6 SATA ports, built-in video and Atom CPU, dual GigE, $175) Memory: 4GB (2X2GB) DDR3 MEMORY RAM PC3-6400 SODIMM 204-PIN ($37) PSU: SILVERSTONE SFX ST30SF 300W ATX12V / EPS12V ($55) Case: Fractal Design Node 304 FD-CA-NODE-304-BL Black Aluminum / Steel Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case (6 internal 3.5" bays, $90) Any thoughts? Really looking for 5 of 6 drives, 4 just isn't enough for his needs.
  22. Ah, there is already a thread about this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31829
