  1. Hey folks, Sorry for the urgency, but I leave for Afghanistan tomorrow and I there is a bunch of stuff on my tower that I want to take with me, and I'm stuck. Here's what happened. I upgraded to 5.0. Since then I can no longer access my shares. I can find my tower and browse to \\Tower and see all my discs, my flash and my shares. When I try to access any of the shares however I get the following message: "Movies" is available but the user account that you are logged on with was denied access" I am logged on as the administrator. I've got 3 different PC's running Vista, Windows 7 and Windows XP and none of them can access it. Obviously my shares are set on "Public" and "Export" I've changed nothing else. Please help!
  2. Thanks in advance for your help. Yesterday I upgraded to 5.0 and had no issue with the server, it was behaving normally. Today I powered down, removed a 1TB drive and replaced it with a 3TB drive. Then powered on. Using the Web GUI, it recognized the 1TB drive was missing and I selected the 3TB to replace it. I clicked the "start array array and rebuid/expand" or whatever it is, but then nothing happens. The drives didn't all spin up to rebuild the 1TB onto the new 3TB. I could no longer access the Web GUI, the shares all disappeared and I could only access the flash drive over the nextwork. I have attached the syslog Any ideas? syslog-2013-08-22.txt
  3. Ok the preclear worked and showed no errors - it took 27 hours (is that about right for a 2tb drive?) I'm now rebuilding the drive, but its going a ton slower than normal. Its been almost 24 hours and its at 50% now, running at about 5,000KB/s If my memory serves its usually like 40-60,000KB/s My equipment is pretty new: Mobo: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O CPU: Intel i3 540 Clarkdale RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 Power and cooling 750 Watt PS 3 sets of Supermicro CSE-M35T-1B drive cages with 15 drives SATA cards: 1) Supermicro-AOC-SASLP-MV8 SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card 2) Monoprice SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card 4,000KB/s is way too slow right?
  4. Ok, well I'll start the preclear and let you know what happens. Can anyone think why all my drive expansions are failing UNLESS I preclear first? In the past, this hasn't been necessary.
  5. Ok, Thanks here is the SMART report. Any ideas? smart.txt
  6. I replaced a working 500gb disc (disc 14 in my array) with a new WD 2TB drive last night and started the expansion. When I woke this AM, the drive is flashing red and shows 288 errors. The one thing I didn't do this time, was run preclear on my new drive first. A few months ago I did a couple expansions that froze, but when I precleared the discs and repeated it, it worked. (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=16249.msg150448#msg150448) Here is a snapshot. I rebooted the computer immediately before I started the expansion and yet somehow the syslog is still 1.8 MB the last 90% of it just repeats the same error, so I cut that part to make it fit. What went wrong? I guess I'll preclear the disc, and try again, but I don't understand why its failing if I don't preclear first. I have done dozens of expansion, but until the last 2 most recent expansions I didn't have to preclear the disc to get an expansion to work. Thanks in advance! syslog_truncated.txt
  7. SOLVED!! Johnm, you were exactly right. It was the Maxtor drive. I put in a 2007 Seagate 7200 rpm, and now its transfering at 55 MB/s! Thanks for everyone's help!
  8. Yeah, it is an old drive, I have a 500 gb seagate 7200 that is a couple years newer, I'll try that and see if it makes a difference. . .
  9. added syslog, also I'm using unraid 4.7 Thanks in advance for your suggestions. syslog1.txt
  10. I recently upgraded my unraid server to the following components. Reading the forums, it seems that I'm getting significantly slower speeds than everyone else - especially with respect to the cache drive. Mobo: SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O CPU: Intel i3 540 Clarkdale RAM: Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 Power and cooling 750 Watt PS 3 sets of Supermicro CSE-M35T-1B drive cages with 15 drives SATA cards: 1) Supermicro-AOC-SASLP-MV8 SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card 2) Monoprice SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card My network: Cat 6 Ethernet cables, a Router: Gigabit D-link DIR 655. Transfer source: i5 2500k windows 7 system with a gigabit ethernet port. Using both WD green 3tb drive 5400 rpm and a 128gb OCZ vetex 3 SSD - Speed of transfer did not change more than 1-2 gb/s between the two. The files in question are large 35 gb movie files (with a folder file system, not a single ISO file) With a cache drive speeds are: 13 - 20 MB/s (Cache drive = Maxtor 500gm 7200rpm drive on the the #2 sata card shown above) Without a cache drive speeds are: ~ 15 MB/s The network is otherwise not being used at all. I did read in the forums about some issue with remote differential compression, so I turned this off, and speeds have not changed at all. Thoughts?
  11. Well, preclear finished with no issues, so the drive didn't look bad. I turned the "spindown time" to "never" and added the drive to the array and started the rebuild . and . . Its done! No errors, and all the files I've tried on the drive since the rebuild seem to work fine. So . . . it was either the spindown feature, or is it possible that preclear actually helped something? Thoughts? Regardless, as always thanks for the folks who gave advice - you are what make unraid great!
