  3. That was actually answered in the first reply of this thread, have a closer look at Frank1940's post. oops got it will try that
  4. Sorry for taking so long to reply .. Thanks for the information but I have done this on another linux box succcessfully. my problem is the filesystem of unraid is virtual so how do i make the changes permanent?

    UPS's

Hey all Wish there was a sticky for compatible UPS's. I am South African [and damn proudly so..] my old friend an APC RS1500 has stopped working and i need to replace it and I have NO budget. So I understand to replace it directly it's gonna cost me about R2500 - 5000 so I am looking at this https://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/84681611/Eaton+Publications+Eaton+5e1500iusb+Uninterruptible+Power+Supply+Ups+5e+1500va+Usb+230v can any one verify that unRAID can see this UPS and it can shut it down if need be... I am really open to any South African recommendations for a decent [cheapish] line interactive as the power is totally crap in South Africa. reason why such a big UPS gotta a 700W corei7 gen 2 970gtx gaming machine connected to it as well. i have spent years scavenging these components and want a decent UPS to protect it all. Thanks for any help...
  8. +1 Microsoft's Security research has upped it's game massively since the beginning of Windows 10. So agreed with this comment only Malwarebytes to compliment the builtin AV.
  9. that's not speed this is speed
  10. for my own reasons I would like to do this the site for download is not there any more is it possible or not? thank you
  11. The NerdPack has been a supplementary collection of modules that not every one needs. It helps to keep the installed core leaner. Your request is a different usage, a way to provide newer versions of the installed modules, whenever users feel LimeTech is not moving quickly enough. That's possibly valid, but I think I would prefer a separate collection. With each unRAID release, you'll have to decide what to change with it, what's no longer necessary to install because it's now included in the core. That makes this new collection quite volatile, much more than the NerdPack has been. There's good value in the NerdPack, in keeping our core systems leaner. I can see in the future Tom and Eric getting together and moving more modules from the installed unRAID core into NerdPack (or its built-in successor). It would be especially attractive to those users who only wanted a 'lean and mean' NAS. They would uncheck all VM support and uncheck all Docker support, and any other feature support they don't plan to use. Some things can't be separated, have to be compiled into the kernel core, but others should be (libvirt?). soo does that mean no?
  12. But what if its libvirt / docker engine that's the holdup? We just don't know. I'd rather something be released that works, than something that's only going to cause problems We have no idea, because once again we're back to zero communications. I have some news and I can tell you the dual parity isn't the only thing holding the launch of 6.2. Lots of things are in the process of being implemented or revamped so it will take some time to proper test everything and fix possible bugs. It's a major leap ahead, so I advise patience. thank you a few words of the updates is ALWAYS appreciated
  13. You never did give us any diagnostics. What do you mean you don't have physical access? I think you will need to at least get the flash drive in your hands and into another computer to do a new install. Take a screenshot of your disk assignments. Do a new install to the flash and add your .key file to config folder. Bootup and assign your drives as before making very sure you don't assign a data drive to the parity slot. Checkbox for parity valid. Start. Your shares will be there because unRAID makes all top level folders into shares automatically, but they will have default settings, so you will have to make any settings for each share again. Or you could copy shares.cfg and the shares subfolder from config and restore them but that wouldn't be quite as clean as a new install. Thanks for the answer. Yes you are correct i did not give any diags from the current build as i have been going docker mad and have installed and uninstalled lots of dockers and plugins over the last few months and now i thought i created my own problem so i want to start fresh with the main plugins i want and one docker[emby] and see if i experience the same problems. My understanding is you can delete all the files off the stick while the server is on and then copy back the fresh files from the install zip and just leave the boot files when i do the delete. I just wanted to achieve this without getting under my desk as it's in a very awkward place to get out the usb. So i was just looking for some advice on what is the right files to leave behind and then copy over the original install files. I do realise some of the plugins keep configs on the stick but i plan to uninstall or disable everything before i start and that also the advise i am looking for. If not possible I understand. Thanks again for any help. [i also don't want to waste the community's time troubleshooting the current build.]
  14. thank you for the inclusion of 7zip.. may i please ask [i know this has been discussed] for the inclusion of midnight commander, I do realize that it is already part of UNraid OS but the versioning goes out if the the OS does not update when the new release comes out. Can the nerdpack carry midnight commander please that can overwrite the version in the OS if the user chooses? Thank you
  15. Sorry to rehash an old post.. It's still happening to me roughly every 4 days or so... I would just like some advice on how to remove everything [i do not have physical access to the box] and start as if it was a fresh install, I would like to keep the shares if possible. I will then see if it is still happening after that.. Thanks for any help ...
  16. Sorry to hijack your thread But I WISH i could do this for South Africa as well
  17. IF it was doable.. then you would first need 2 licenses as the GUID of the USB's would be different
  18. Seems more likely you would be running out of RAM since that is where everything except /boot and /mnt actually is, including "root". Simplest way to regain that space is just to reboot unRAID. Thanks. I've found Borg has two environment variables that can override where it places its keys and cache. The cache can be quite large - far bigger than RAM. I've now got it to backup 2Tb successfully and can easily mount the backup as a fuse file system. Borg is a self contained binary, so all I did to get it going was create a directory (on my cache drive), place the binary there. I then copied their example backup script and modified it for my setup (I want to backup to USB). I've set the two environment variables mentioned above within the script and all works fine. any chance of sharing some of your scripts please, i am having trouble trying to wrap my head around this
  19. Thanks.. I'm not making Dockers but I found that article really relevant. Granted HD/SSD space isn't expensive but it does seem to make sense that ANY code of ANY kind should be the smallest most efficient it can be... And microcontainers does sound a good way to keep Dockers light on resources (and quicker to deploy!) Maybe Sparklyballs or one of the other active Docker devs will pitch in.. or even take the idea onboard. +1
