  3. Sounds like a great idea, I for one am wanting to upgrade my server in the near future so i can take advantage of the virtual side of things and also have it run as my media PC. while I've used virtual machines a fair bit on windows, I'd be grateful to have that one on one help teaching me how to get unraid running how I'd like.

  5. all good now, same thing after the 2nd restart, checked for updates and said was up to date, so just did it manually still not getting offered the update through the normal update procedure, should i do it the old fashioned way, downloading and copying those 2 files to the usb? Try a reboot of your server, then check for updates. Does that work? Tried that last night, I'll do it again though There are upgrade instructions beyond that massive change log. All you have to do is download the zip, unpack and copy these files to your usb flash: bzimage bzroot license.txt make_bootable.bat make_bootable_mac memtest readme.txt Then reboot.

  8. i'm not getting an update, i'm running rc5, have restarted. checked again for updates, and it's status is up-to-date
  9. the fact it says it couldn't preclear the drives, is odd. i think it would be best for you to post the logs created
  10. i wouldn't, cause of the restarts? but very easy to make a new one. I can just plug back into the other one, restart and watch a show
  11. Hi, i moved from 5.05 to 6.14 when it came out, and to a and b respectfully. But as soon as i moved to version 6, i was getting constant problems with watching media, it pausing up for several seconds. Ended up setting up a constant ping to the server, which would show a spike and time outs when the issues occurred. But having the ping setup also helped with the frequency and time of the pause, where it would only pause for a few seconds rather then upto 30 or more. Anyway, i ended up trying a few nic's i had neither of the 2 pci-e worked, an intel and a tp link . but got a pci one working an edimax brand that's using a realtek chipset, and the problem is no more. So that leads me to believe there could be a problem with drivers for my on board nic chipset a marvel 8056

  13. this is still the best way to burn in a new hdd i take it by the recent posts?
  14. just realized this is in unraid 5 general, should probably be in unraid 6
  15. hi, wondering if there's an easier way to shutdown, then stopping the array, waiting for everything to spin up, unmount etc, then clicking shutdown. why can't we just hit shutdown, and it do the stop command then shutdown automatically, without having to wait. click shutdown, close browser, walk away
  16. Thought it was about time i took the plunge and upgraded from vs 5, everythings working except while I'm playing back a video file from my htpc, it keeps pausing, like as if it's buffering or something? any ideas edit: just pulled a few files across from the server to the htpc hdd, and it copied across at good speeds 48~MB/sec
  17. ftp, did you have to add a video card? i'm wondering why you didn't pick a cpu with onboard graphics?
  18. i've been trying to find one with 4 pci ex slots, but can't the E3-1230v3 doesn't have a gpu does it? wouldn't that mean you'll lose a slot for a video card then?
  19. what board and cpu are you planing on getting pro, i'm going to do an esxi haswell build myself
  20. so this is only a problem for people using or were using AFP? if not, no need to worry about it?
  21. Can you please elaborate on the emhttp thing. I've got no problem manually setting each disk i'm working on to spin down never while running the scan, and setting it back when finished. just need what commands are required, ps i dont want it wiping data(destructive mode) and i want the server still available, sharing the data while the scans are being done.
  22. Hi WeeboTech, just wondering if you've managed to do any development on a badblocks automation script? looks like i've got a bad block on my cache drive, just pulled it and ran seatools which failed, so has prompted me that i really should run something on all my other drives. can someone confirm for me the correct procedure to run a safe test on my active live disks
  23. Something else to check that happened to me a couple years back, had 2 servers going on the same network just like you do, and i had copied the contents of my flash drive onto the new one. changed the name, but. What happened to me was, there was a txt config file in there that had the mac address in it, and so it forced the other pc to be using that mac address rather then the built in one on the nic, which then was causing me alot of problems. Just deleted the address out of the config file, and everything was fine, it updated it to the proper mac for that pc nic
  24. Hi, i got a couple cards from seanant, in the last lot he had And one of the cards is causing the system to hang after detecting the drives, wondering if it's some how a bad flash or maybe it's just faulty. What seems odd is, well first i have another card as well i got a couple months ago from ebay and flashed myself, so lets call them new cards, card A (good one) card B (one with prob) card C (card i've been using last couple months) Ok, so i pulled card C out and put in cards a and b, and it wasn't booting. With both cards A and B in it does the detecting drives and shows all my 16 drives but hangs.. Pulled card B out and put card A into slot 2, and during boot up it didn't do the detecting drives part, just did the normal bios and straight to unraid menu. Pulled card A out and put card B into slot 1, and did the normal detecting drives and hangs, pulled it out, and put card C back in and same, does the detecting drives but continues onto unraid menu. Put cards A and C into system, it did the detecting drives, and it was quick it showing the drives detected, but i'm sure i only saw the 8 drives not 16, But unraid has booted and all drives are there and working. So yea not 100% sure about card A either it's working but not doing the detecting drives it seems? i asked for them to be pre flashed to IT mode same as card C i did myself. Any suggestions, should i just flash these 2 cards myself again to be sure?
