  1. I see, when I've gotten a new drive it's always become the new parity drive.. So that's obviously got something to do with it not clearing i guess That HPA thing... is that the thing gigabyte boards where doing, where they were putting a copy of the bios or something onto a drive.. if so, then yes my current disk1 has that on it, one of the things i was wanting to try and get rid of by doing a pre-clear on it once i get all of it's data off it onto the new drive. will it cause problems upgrading to 4.7? or am i way off and HPA is something else Still enable it for the new 2tb drives though right? Your just referring to doing it to current drives with data on them? But if I'm going to run a pre-clear on my current 1.5tb drives anyway, i might as well change it in the process right? That is if they are even AF drives in the first place?
  2. Hey guys, just a few questions wanting to check on. I've been getting low on space lately and as a result my data is spread all over my span of disks atm, and have almost completely run out now. So going to pickup a couple 2tb sammys on the weekend. And yes I'll be upgrading the firmware on them.. have to look into that actually on obtaining the firmware etc to Now all my previously newly bought drives I've just added them, unraid's come up as un-formatted, and within a couple mins, there up and running. Never had it do a wipe like the pre-clear script is suppose to do for you in advance. So question one.. should i really be running the pre-clear script first. Or the fact they are brand new drives, pre-clearing isn't going to do anything anyway, and it's only for previously used drives??? 2nd is once there up and going I'll have to do some housekeeping, (i try and keep my shares set to specific drives so when i go into folder x, only a few drives may spin up rather then all. Which it's gotten very messy the last couple months, since i started running out of space on a couple shares, and had to let them off their leash). In the process of doing that, I'll be filling up one of the new 2tb, which will make the new disk1.(Other becoming parity). And the previous parity(1.5tb) will become disk 2. Ect. So I'll be filling them up, well almost anyway, and empty out other drives. Now depending on your answer from question one. Should i then run the pre-clear on the now disk1, soon to become disk3, and so on down the line pre-clearing all my older disks as i go? (Just going to have to double-triple check my drive letters, making sure i don't pre-clear the wrong one. Hell I'll probably even pull the power on the others, so I'm 100% sure before i do a pre-clear. 3rd question is, I'm going to have to upgrade to at least 4.7, (haven't gotten round to upgrading since 4.5.6 yet) for the advance formatting. Now i know the new 2tb have it, but I'm not 100% sure on my 1.5tb, i know some do, but not sure on mine. They are also sammys, all the drives in my server are actually. There HD154UI 's the greenies. I don't think they are, I've googled and haven't come up with anything saying they are, so I'm guessing not, but as i said I'm not sure so asking, cause if they are, I might as well get them re-formatted into advance while I'm re-organizing everything. And last but not least, I'm really keen on upgrading to 5.0, now I've used all the previous betas these last couple years Ive been using unraid, but have held off on the upgrade to 5, just wanted to let it mature a little bit before i made the plunge. So just wondering on how it's going, does it seem stable enough, that I might as well just upgrade straight to 5.0 and skip 4.7? Yes i know it's beta and all the risks, but if it's not causing anyone major stability or any data loss. (If someone could just let me know how things are going with it. Without me reading though all of the pages currently on it.) Then I'll upgrade to it on the weekend as well. Thanks to all who can answer/advice
  3. quick turnable question, i have 4 gig of ram, and wondering what others are doing for this side... i'm not sure if i should just put them up a bit, or double them or even more, the defaults are set for 512mb, i belive from memory. So in theory i could put them up 8 times, but i doubt thats a realistic thing to do.
  4. hey, first i'd like to say i'm glad your back tom and your developing again. i installed a new 1.5tb sammy a couple weeks ago, and moved the 1tb from parity down into drive 1 slot, and i've just realised that it's not spinning down. i had noticed previously that it was always spun up when checking the status page, but just assumed something must of accessed it and cause it to spin up. but it is definatly not spinning down at all. now it always spun down noprob when it was the parity drive, but now it's not? so not sure if it's the new setup, or this new beta7. i have no idea, anyone got any ideas? edit:. i also just just manualy spinning it down, and the status page took about a min to refresh, and it sounded as if all the drives spun up and back down, but disk1 is still going, it didn't spin down..
  5. the path is actually in your case 192.168.1.3:/mnt/user/movies w: i found using the ip didn't work as well as going //tower/mnt/user/movies... but even then i still had alot of trouble getting it to mount, and when i did get some stuff to mount, i'd open it up but then it wouldn't let me into any of the folders inside... i got the shits after a few hours and uninstalled all the unix/nfs suport .. thought i'd wait for others to work it all out and fine tune it
  6. all good... got stuff moving over now.. thanks for all the help. ps. great work on your app, has opened up a whole new level to unraid features anychance of the file browser being expanded to allow moving of files as well?, wouldn't have to telnet in to use mc anymore
  7. kewl, actually having a problem atm with the ntfs suport thing... tried downloading the package but it came back saying it may be corrupt and it wont' install it, so i can't mount the drive ect... i've deleted the packages folder and restarting the server.. see how i go downloading it again ok completely reinstalled unmenu and redownloaded the ntfs-3g package and still no go i get this after download.... md5 Checksum: 7d6b633fe359fc2503a7e3c0c027a9ce (NOT matched - download may be corrupted.) then when i hit install i get.... ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz installation: Cannot install ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz: package is corrupt (failed 'gzip -l ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz') ntfs-3g-1.2216-i486-1McD.tgz apparently did not install properly, /bin/ntfs-3g does not exist.

  10. ok, disabled comodo, no good. teleneted back in did your command and got the message...... awk: fatal: can't open source file `/boot/unmenu.awk' for reading (No such file or directory) which can't be true cause it is there, as i have shown in attached pic
  11. hey joe, just installed and am having a problem getting the page to show.. did everything you said too, i think .. unziped files onto flash into a boot folder a made on the root of the flash. telneted in, cd to boot, and copy and pasted that nohup xxxx line into telnet, it returned with some numbers. tried to connect //sever:8080..(i've got mine called server) no go, tried tower:8080 just in case, no go.. restarted.. tried again, no go, telneted back in and redid the nohup thing, and still no go ???
  12. just a little bit, hence the ... but i dont have a spare vid card to leave in it, not that i want to in the first place, half the reason of getting a new motherboard was so i could get unraid running without a video card in it and using less power. but the dam thing won't load
  13. not atm no, i waited to unraid started to load then i yanked the video card out , but if i have to restart i'm gonna have to put a video card back in to get it to boot up
  14. hi, i've just bought a new motherboard and moved my p35-ds3p overto unraid for more sata ports and being able to boot with no videocard needed. yet alas, i still can't get unraid to load without the video card in. telling by the flashes of the usb stick, i know it's getting to the menu were you select unraid or memtest, but thats as far as it will go, won't start loading up unraid
  15. whats some of the best cheapest board avalible atm to use for a server, would like as many sata ports as possbile obviously .. but dont wanna spend much either
  16. hey, i've seen a few posts of what people recomended to use for telnet, i'm wanting to actually get a specific telnet client now, instead of using the windows built in one. i had a quick search but couldn't find the posts were I've seen said recommendations, can someone tell me what i should use thats best. don't need anything fancy, just something simple and light weight and will work under vista
  17. main downside i see is, unless your using a cache disk on the unraid, or you have each computer sending to a different disk on the unraid. you could find the files your sending at the same time would become fraged. as it would be writing part of file number one in block x and file number to into block x+1 and then the next part of file number one into x+2 ect.
  18. Well been using unraid for a couple weeks now, and so far so good. glad i came across a post that mentioned this program and decided to check it out. Defiantly better then WHS, i was using. must say I'm pleased with it's features. so have splashed out and bought a plus key, well 2 with a future in case i expand out one day, worth the extra $30 So I'm here to stay now But anyway thought I'd make this is my official welcome to everyone. And a well done and good luck with future releases to, "tom"?. especial an s3 suspend and wol. nudge, nudge Just hope it doesn't take too long to get my key now.
