  1. I remember reading that this was an accident lol
  2. I didn't have connection issues but I did have speed issues on my 50/25 fios line. I think I received maybe 1MB/s down rather than 6-7 without it. Pretty significant sacrifice.
  3. I see what you did there Excellent news Tom, you can always expect my support.
  4. Yep, I give my warm spares a gauntlet's worth of preclears before I even begin using it. Hell I do that even with drives that I don't plan on using in my server.
  5. I use a 3TB drive as my cache drive. It acts as a warm spare. Several users on the forum do the same.
  6. I was not aware of the compatibility issues between the 1230v2 and multiple M1015. Worse, I just overhauled my rig with a X9SCM-F and 1230 v2 combo along with 2x M1015's.... I can safely say that I have been running great with 1 week of 100% uptime without issue so far. I don't plan on going to 3x M1015's. if that need were to arrive I would just buy an expander card and sell one of the 2 M1015's I already have.
  7. I remember I chose Pass-Through because I believed that RDM did not allow spin down, is that still true?
  8. Selling my old hardware set because I need to upgrade to ESXi 5.0. For some reason this particular motherboard (and I found other instances with different hardware) has an incompatibility with ESXi 5.0. There's some form of a management interface that handles some of the PCI-E lanes. Because of this extra barrier, ESXi is not capable of passing through cards that are behind this "switch". Supposedly a fix is in the works but I can't wait around for it. It worked fine for me for the past year and a half in ESXi 4.1 but I upgraded earlier today and found the issue. Since I can't roll back, I decided to just replace the motherboard with new compatible hardware. The reason I need 5.0 is because I'm going to start experimenting with OSx based VM's. The hardware is 100% in working order, and works very well at that. You can build a fairly beastly ESXi 4.1 setup with it but won't be able to move to 5 until whatever fix they have cooking is released. Please PM with reasonable offers if interested. I am willing to sell the items individually as well. Shipping will be on me, I get a discount through my work.
  9. Wow amazing timing. I upgraded to ESXi 5 finally only to find that my older SuperMicro board's passthrough ability breaks during the 5.0 transition (from 4.1 to 5). Apparently passthrough does not function when the slots are being managed by some kind of built in switch. Worst thing is, there's no going back without completely redoing the install/setup. So my solution is to just overnight some new hardware . I was using a X8SIA-F with a X3440 CPU.... they were a great combo but clearly this was a huge limitation. Great find and thanks for sharing!!! Perfect time.
  10. If you voted the current version was ready for release, then just use it already. What difference is a FINAL label going to make to you?
  11. I went for it but alas, the internal drive does not carry its own warranty boooo. Was hoping it would be like my WD Greens and have a separate warranty altogether.
  12. Will that expander be friendly with a M1015 controller?
  13. A new release has nothing to do with support. Who has reached out to Tom for support and not gotten it? I have and I received the support I needed. I've seen similar stories across the forum. Lets not confuse things.
  14. Ya this topic has been brought up many times already. I'm surprised you haven't seen it yet since you've been around for a hot minute. No worries though, it's by design.
  15. Yay! This will keep the squabbling at bay lol.
  16. Yep I agree, nuke this thread haha. Pony up for the Pro version, give Tom some support. I purchased 2 Pro licenses and it was a hell of a deal.
  17. You might want to shoot over an email to him to ensure it doesn't get lost in the thread (if it keeps growing of course).
  18. +1 People testing these betas and RC's should have as close to vanilla configurations as possible. The data is tainted if you have other plugins/services etc. running. It makes it far more complicated to trouble shoot an issue for Tom and even worse so when the issue isn't even related to unRaid but a plugin in general.
  19. Agreed - I wish people would stop with the new feature requests. Getting rid of those posts, plus the posts complaining about them - would make it easier for everyone to concentrate on real issues in this thread without the extra noise. Yep I just read through a bunch of posts that I shouldn't have needed to. Take it into a new thread. Great to see the RC is going well... getting an itchy trigger finger but I don't have a test VM setup to use with it (nor the drives/controllers hah).
  20. What is it about the LSI cards that you love so much? They are problematic for a number of reasons. What's more they are easy to replace. A lot easier than to kludge software to make them work. Unless you have thousands of them, rip them out and replace with something newer and better. This has already been addressed in this thread. The LSI cards are very easy to acquire and at extremely affordable prices. There is plenty of support for them not only from different software developers but also the industry in general (hell they're even easy to work with software suites such as ESXi which can be very picky about hardware). I can't tell if your post was just unfounded or purposeful trolling (registered today and posted 1 time total).

OK lets not start exaggerating here. I'm not a developer and I'm definitely not linux savvy and I can SAFELY SAY that it did not take me hours of screwing around to do anything other than just holding files. Maybe our brains work differently but I can definitely say that what you have described has NEVER been my experience. Every addon I've installed has been up and running with MINIMAL effort. Hell getting unRaid up and running for me (4-5 years ago?) took less than 15 minutes to build the spare computer out of parts... and then about 5 minutes to boot it up and configure it with the 3 drives I had installed. Lets not start throwing absurdities out there... you just look foolish in the end.

I agree that people were pretty rediculously irate when the target goal wasn't reached. I'm actually pretty frustrated with lime-tech at this point because we are two months past that target goal and in the last 4 months the support I've received from lime-tech was something I'd expect from a one man show or a free program, not one that costs over $100 and is an actual company. Lol as far as we know, it IS a one man show. This may be changing shortly, but for now... the only contact we've had is through Tom as far as can tell.
  23. I just want to say that you speeding_ant, and those that have helped improve this mod, have done a fantastic job. I've been running 1.0b6 since release day without issue (and previous versions). I would love to see Tom incorporate this into the primary build so that others who are afraid of modifications such as this would be forced to be exposed to it . Keep up the fantastic work!

Tom has already addressed this; 5.0's code is solid and he wished he had added the meaningless label of "final" to it already because it would have saved a lot of bickering. Move to it if you're concerned with trusting 4.7 with your data. According to your response, you don't even have all your data contained on a 4.7 server anyway (you're in the process) so what the heck is holding you back from moving to 5.0.
