Odd, still not showing on my main system. I went ahead and dropped it in to a backup system and plopped an unRaid trial down and it is not recognized there either. Oddly enough, it is recognized in my windows machine.

WTB: Mobo and Cpu that supports passthru
NotYetRated replied to wisem2540's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade
I have the below listed with 32GB RAM. Was using as unRaid server for a while until I moved up to Xeon e5. M/B: ASRock - C226 WS CPU: Intel® Xeon® CPU E3-1245 v3 @ 3.40GHz 32GB RAM Antec 900 case 8 port drive controller: 0f:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS2008 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 [Falcon] (rev 03) Located in Ohio. -
Looking for any Intel PCIe 2+ port NIC, compatible with unRaid. I picked up a Pro/1000 IBM branded card that does not want to be recognized by unRaid, need something thatll drop in and be picked up. Going to be tinkering with pfSense VM.

My desktops are all indeed "WORKGROUP". Browsing to server name or the IP had same affect. Now, interestingly after removing the IPMI plugin, turning off the server, removing the USB drive and replugging it, turning the server back on, all is snappy as ever. I do not know if it was related to the IPMI or the USB, as I definitely seem to be having USB issues on the motherboard. My UPS connection is being flakey. Thanks for all the help and pointers everyone. Please let me know if anyone would like me to reinstall the IPMI tool and see if things go wonky again, or leave updated diags, in case anyone is curious to exactly what was happening.

Aww pooh thats what I was planning to use this for. Unfortunately for me I cannot see that unRaid is picking it up at all, tried 2 different slots. Going to drop it in my desktop to make sure the cards not a dud. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Should this puppy work in unRaid? Intel PRO/1000 PT PCI-E Quad Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter LP 39Y6138 Picked her up from ebay auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112035331785?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I tried the server with: 1. All VM's off, dockers off, array online, still very long to respond(webui) 2. All VM's off, dockers off, array offline, still very long to respond(webui) Accessed from multiple computers, chrome, ie, phone, VM within the server, all icnredibly unresponsive. I turned off my link aggregation, switched ports on my switch, switched cables, upgraded to the new RC, all no dice. I swapped USB ports on the server and noticed on reboot the server didn't want to recognize the USB drive. Popped it back to original spot, no recognition at boot, powered down server left down for a few moments unplugged and powered back on and drive was recognized and server booted. However, still very slow webUI. All else loaded fast, server came online fast, transfers to/from flash drive over network at ~30MB/s. I will investigate the USB issue tomorrow once I am back around the house.

Thanks for the details, I had not even considered that. I will give it a look when home this afternoon.

Bumping this, as I have still been unable to find the source of the WEB UI slowdown. It is so slow I can hardly even configure anything additional in my server. I have tried shutting down all VM's, all dockers, rebooted server and I am still getting minute plus page loads on the system. I can copy files to and from the flash drive with decent speeds, 30MB/s, which is as fast as it was when I brought the system online. Anyone have any ideas?
-
haha oops, had been a while!
-
I am not sure when exactly this started, or what caused it but recently navigating my WebUI has been extremely painful. I am seeing page load times of upwards of a minute or more. I had not needed to log in for multiple weeks, and made no real configuration changes. Wondering if anyone can point me in some form of a direction here. I tried rebooting, to no avail. I actually had logged in to increase my docker image, clean a few things up and see how things had been. It was slow before touching the docker image, I had just chalked it up to nothing initially, but every page I try and load is consistently extremely slow. Previously, the pages loaded quite fast! Diagnostics attached... bigbang-diagnostics-20160705-2329.zip

Where do you put your VM's and how do you manage your ssd's?
NotYetRated replied to JustJoshin's topic in VM Engine (KVM)
I just leave my VM SSD's independent of the array and assigned through Unassigned Devices. Works well for me. Currently have 3 unassigned SSD's with 4 VMs on them total. -
I share some cores and have yet to have an issue.
-
As explained before, you are limited in the number is PCIe lanes on many CPU/chipsets. If you want to run 4 GPU's effectively, and not spend 800+ bucks on a single CPU with 40 PCIe lanes, have a look here: https://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=46077.0 I picked up the CPU's, an asRock mobo and 64GB RAM for a few hundred bucks, and have currently got 3 VM's up with dedicated GPU's. When the GF moves in(shudder), Ill be looking to add a fourth.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is "nice" as it relates to CPU load? Thats a tough one to google....

I have 16 cores/32 threads with a ton of dockers and 5 VM's. -I allocate 2 cores to each Windows VM -I lock my Plex docker down to 10 cores(ive been switching it a bit lately), but mainly i dont allow it free access to all cores as I dont ever want transcoding a shit ton of media to get in the way of all of my other stuff running 100%. How I have my cores set, I actually only have 2 threads which don't have anything else(VM/Docker) assigned to them. This way, unRaid always has 2 threads all to itself. I have a few "misc" cores which I have multiple dockers assigned to. Couldn't tell you if this is the most optimal or correct way to do things, but its been working exceptionally for me. My current windows VMs are only media players and light gamers, most streaming stuff from my Steam on my gaming rig. My current core assignment is attached.

Hmm, Windows 10 is technically free isnt it?

You also get the "windows is not activated" splash in the bottom right of your screen. This layer is above any windows/games/etc you bring up. -
Sync directories between two UnRaid servers

Should one shut down the VM's prior to backing up? Not really sure how KVM handles this... -
I have had my system up for about a month now with no issues. Two evenings ago I got a new 1TB SSD which I swapped in for my cache. I also added "iommu=pt" to my syslinux.cfg file to allow for the use of my Marvell on board SATA ports. I also moved my VM images from one SSD to another. Upon firing up my Living Room VM today(with GPU attached), I got the below error in the logs, and the thing would not fire up. char device redirected to /dev/pts/3 (label charserial0) libusb: error [submit_bulk_transfer] submiturb failed error -1 errno=28 libusb: error [submit_bulk_transfer] submiturb failed error -1 errno=28 libusb: error [submit_bulk_transfer] submiturb failed error -1 errno=28 libusb: error [submit_bulk_transfer] submiturb failed error -1 errno=28 qemu-system-x86_64: hw/usb/core.c:551: usb_packet_check_state: Assertion `!"usb packet state check failed"' failed. 2016-03-26 18:02:22.633+0000: shutting down I am unable to easily turn off that iommu line, as it would necessitate swapping around drives and such to get off of that marvel controller. If anyone has seen this error before, or has any other ideas, I would appreciate it! Otherwise, I will be turning that option off and giving things a shot without it, was just hoping its not that. I could use the 4 extra SATA ports rather than plugging in my old controller. Also, when going to shut the array down earlier to see if swapping the PCIe slots helped, the system hung up at stopping libbirt. Could not even putty in, had to hard shut down. Diags attached. EDIT: Awkwardly enough, I had thought it a GPU passthrough issue of some sort; however it appears to be a USB issue. I tick the box in the VM settings to pass my Logitech keyboard through, same as always, and things go bonk as above. I untick it, and all works. Well, except for my input device of course.... Anyone have any ideas? I successfully passed the entire USB device through, but that is not ideal as my UPS and others are on the same hub. I have no others to pass them off to... bigbang-diagnostics-20160326-1407.zip

$90 Xeon E5-2670 2.6Ghz (8cores / 16threads)
NotYetRated replied to Shamalamadindong's topic in Good Deals!
I do not have that in my append and my cores step up and down with no issues. For those of you wondering about the cooper heat sinks, I would only use those if you are using a server grade board that has ducting over the heatsinks to let a fan pull air directly off of them. Even with the Supermicro 4U coolers my CPUs hit 64-67C under full load. Hmm, I removed the flag and definitely notice a difference. My cores almost never step down to the 1200 mhz they did before I removed the flag... -
Thanks for the detailed response! Are you also running the E5 2670v1? ~Spritz Yep! Could not be happier! The only thing to note, there are 4 ports on the board part of a Marvell adapter, I could not get these to work. I know someone, somewhere posted me a link to a potential fix, but I have yet to try it as I didnt need the SATA spots. My new SSD came in today though, so I will try and dig it up and apply the fix. Otherwise Ill have to pop my controller into a PCIe port. Iommu=pt added after append to the syslinux config might fix the Marvell issue. On 6.2 beta I think it's default, but not on 6.1 versions. I believe the term is Bazinga!? haha, just opened up 4 more SATA ports for me, thanks much!

Anyone using the Intel Pstate trigger for frequency throttling? label unRAID OS menu default kernel /bzimage append intel_pstate=disable initrd=/bzroot I had this set on my box with my "old" e3-1245v3 in it, as the frequency never stepped down without it. I am wondering if I need it for these "new" e5's.... -

The use case you are describing is very similar to mine. I have: Dual Xeon e5's 64GB RAM Windows Server VM specifically for Blue Iris Windows Server VM specifically for Space Engineers.(4-5 players max) MineOS VM specifically for contemplating the universe.(sometimes 40-50 players, sometimes 5-10) All of the standard Dockers: SAB, Plex, CP, etc. Plex streams of 4 simultaneous transcodes at times 1 "Gaming" VM 1 "Home Theater" VM Looking at my stats over the past few weeks, I rarely hit 50% CPU usage. I have have had both "game" and "home theater" vm's running games simultaneously, while a buddy streamed from Plex. I dont pay much attention to whats going on, because I have never had a performance issue on the box. The only thing I have gotten complaints about is directly related to limited upstream bandwidth. My pipe gets full quickly when Minecraft has a lot of players on, and my buddies are hammering Plex streams. Again, this has only been bandwidth related, mostly from buddies setting their quality way too high. Plenty of RAM, plenty of CPU. If not for my plans for a third "home theater" VM for the living room, and beefing up the existing ones video card for my brother to game with, I would be perfectly content with a single of the e5 chips. Although, I do run in to some issues with the lower per core performance compared to my old e3-1245v3 in Minecraft and Space Engineers, both single thread server codes.
