  1. i will look in to it, what do you mean with change it from dhcp it is safe right?
  2. Can i give my unraid server a fixed (=always the same) ip? is it safe? how do i do this? (its setup now behind a router-> then gigabit switch)
  3. joe , this is the same under pkg_manager , i see 2 powerdowns.. one for over temperature and one clean powerdown its that one (clean powerdown) i should install right? http://unraid-powercontrol.googlecode.com/files/powerdown-1.02-noarch-unRAID.tgz right?
  4. Completely up to you. In my opinion yes. If you you do not install the powerdown add-on through unMENU, the power button will work IF the web-management page is functional and IF no disks are busy. If any disk is busy, the array will not stop or power down. The stock uRAID will NOT save any log files for analysis to the flash drive when the power button is pressed. If you do install the powerdown add-on through unMENU, the power button will work even if the web-management page has crashed or was terminated. It will terminate processes holding disks busy. It is far more likely the array will be cleanly stopped and powered down. It will save log files to the flash drive for analysis. Your choice. Joe L. Note: the power button will not work at all unless you have ACPI enabled in your motherboard's BIOS. ok thx, so its advised.. will do it then thx
  5. still not sure what to do do i need, or is it advised to install the powerdown addon? or can i just push the button on my case? to get a safe powerdown?
  6. It also puts a full copy of the SMART report in the syslog when it is done. ok will post it on the forum how do i get a copy from the syslog then to show here? http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshooting#Capturing_your_syslog thx, found it in the manual too ty
  7. Both disks look good. Both successfully cleared, no re-allocated sectors, no sectors pending re-allocation. Joe L. sweet so i guess im lucky it worked for me to use an unjumpered disk before, jumper it and use it in unraid
  8. can someone take a look at my result? its a wd20ears which i used unjumpered, jumpered it, and precleared is it safe to use? preclear_results.txt
  9. It also puts a full copy of the SMART report in the syslog when it is done. ok will post it on the forum how do i get a copy from the syslog then to show here?
  10. i just started preclearing the drive which i used before, but now jumpered, and wrote zeros to it preclearing now so far so good how do i know if its good? if it runs preclear all way up good, am i sure then it works?
  11. i've already done that before like you said then.. its the second time.., so is something wrong?
  12. And I'm assuming you think the EARS firmware is bug-free when changing jumper settings? We know it will lock-up under some conditions and no longer respond until power-cycled. That sounds like a bug to me. The bug might not show itself when the drive is used with the MS drivers... and it might be why it is not yet fixed. preclear does nothing that a parity check or a disk rebuild will eventully do. It reads and writes all the sectors. It might be the catalyst to a lock-up, but the same lock-up will occur when you put the disk into service. What i mean with saying i doubt ........ is the fact the people i refer to getting problems too is with a new drive jumpered right away... and preclearing it not someone using the drive before then jumper it no, i just dont know what to do... i had this drive, used unjumpered, but ive read jumpering it, might cause problems, then after reading that, i knew a person who needed the same but new drive, i could arrange i get the new one, he gets mine, i tried preclearing new one, but that gives problems (2 times for now), so thinking back to keep mine, and do try jumpering it like you said and use low format but that gave problems too , so i got 2 drives not working as it should , so i'm really fed up with those drives thatswhy i ask here to help me to chose what i should do now
  13. same thing i got 3 brand new ones, and got with one of them same result... i retried, and it hangs now.. i do find it strange that you have it too.. maybe something with the script i dunno but that my and your drive has died.. i dunno i never had any problems with new drives what if we just format the drive and use it in the array im really stuck here , someone else then?
  14. i've quit it, and im running the wd data lifeguard diagnostics and ran the write zero's its almost done... i might put this drive in the unraid and preclear since the brand new one gives errors or locks up during preclear, although i have my doubts something is wrong with the hardware, since other persons has the same thing, it would be very much luck
  15. im low level formatting a used drive (which i might use instead of the one that gives error preclearing) this formatting gives me constantly "format error occured at offset X" during format is this normal? it keeps going like that
  16. same thing i got 3 brand new ones, and got with one of them same result... i retried, and it hangs now.. i do find it strange that you have it too.. maybe something with the script i dunno but that my and your drive has died.. i dunno i never had any problems with new drives what if we just format the drive and use it in the array
  17. joe, my first preclear try with my brand new wd20ears got the same result as stradle, as you know i did everything you said, and ran preclear again now after 23 hours, it still is at step 2, at 30 % of it , and its been there for at least 10 hours, and not going further now what? is something wrong?
  18. Yes, the disk is responding once more. thats a fast answer well, im trying preclear again what if i get the same failure again?
  19. Joe, I've done this 1) restart server (or you mean, i have to unplug the powercord to the harddrive?) 2) open telnet session and typ "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb count=8" 3) fdisk -l /dev/sdb result: is that good? trying preclear again now
  20. how do you make/arrange folders using internet explorer?
  21. so i just use windows explorer, go to the network place, then i can edit the maps/ organize things and even copy and paste right?
  22. If it is the initial copy then I try to do it with the drive with data on it in the server. Using unMenu to mount the drive and the Midnight Commander to move the files were I want them. If the initial transfer is complete and it is just for daily copying to and from then I just use the smb mounts. Not quite sure what you mean by "maps" but assuming you mean the shares. I create a share for each individual "category" where I will store files. Something like "Movies", "TV Shows", "Anime", "Backups", etc. This is all through a telnet session (using midnight commander) With maps, i mean folders... You do this with windows explorer or?
