  1. There are many people who are adding programs to unRAID that constantly access disks. Some of those are transmission, a bit-torrent client, mySQL, a database, airVideo, a streaminig server. Those will open files and keep the server from shutting down unless closed/stopped first. They need the powerdown package or something similar. For a basic server used only for file storage, you can stop the server with a momentary press of the power button. ok thats clear thanks! SOrry but im really new to unraid.. Couple of other questions, cause i want to be a bit prepared before installing my hardware and the software: whats unmenu? do i need the streaming server application, when i want to stream from my dune base? What other applications are there/are useful?, What are the basic addons? Thanks Nobody?

  3. this is a good way to do it with the power down buttons? or should i use something like wake on lan? How do you guys do it? Or are you all letting it run 24/24 7 days a week? You say im able to power it down if its not busy (but when im not streaming from my dune, or browsing to it from my pc, or downloading stuff, it is not busy right?) then its always not busy, so why use the powerdown package then?
  4. After installing unraid, can i just put the server off as often as i want? since i dont want it running at night or when im off to work... say for example: monday keep it running 1 hour tuesday 2hours wednesday 6 hours etc etc i can switch it on/off as often as i want? using the power button on the case? or do i got to shut it down with a remote pc/laptop?
  5. Correct. So you always can add more. just buy them when you need them. e.g. when adding extra disks. You can buy these kabels at any local pc store ok so for 12 hdds i need for example 1 x http://azerty.nl/8-1549-39866/belkin-power-y-splitter-spli.html 4 x the one that bolle mentions this is the easiest, cheapest way? but also the cleanest way? or can i do it more clean?
  6. oh right, offcourse thx something like this right http://azerty.nl/8-1549-39866/belkin-power-y-splitter-spli.html
  7. Easy get some Power Y Spliters. You could check the link bolle specified here, there are more cables on that shop, but all pc stores has these kind of cables also checked the connector of the psu SATA x4 4 pin Peripheral x3 so you only can get 3 of the kables bolle said cause they convert 1x 4 pin Peripheral to 2x sata so: SATA x4 4 pin Peripheral x3 + x2 coverter kables = 6 sata So 10 sata HD you can get 4 pin Peripheral Y spiters or you can get Sata power Y spliters. and increase the connectores euh im not with you you say 3x2= 6 sata then you say, so you can plug in 10 hdd? (i thought each hdd needs a sata) ,what should i get then so i can add 12-13 drives
  8. cool thx, will order that too then so 4 of those-> still 8 i can connect, not 12 or 13
  9. just a question i see the psu only has 4 sata connectors... how do i get 12-13 drives connected to it then?
  10. http://azerty.nl/8-1593-2188/oem-seri-le-ata-sas-kabel-7-pens-seri-le-ata-7-pens-seri-le-ata-45-cm.html by the way, my ram is DDR3 SDram modules/PC3-10666 1333MHz CL9 , is that ok? (2x2gb)
  11. so this is 100% good (including correct cables for 3 hdd?) OEM 3 Seriële ATA / SAS kabel Computer intern/Seriële ATA / SAS 7-pens seriële ATA - 45 cm € 7,50 SanDisk Cruzer € 7,95 Kingston ValueRAM € 42,66 ASUS M4A78LT-M € 52,87 WD Caviar Green WD20EARS € 83,70 Corsair CX430 € 42,84 Processor € 57,95 Cooler Master Centurion 590 € 70,70
  12. did you order that at azerty.nl? is it boxed with a cooler? once you'll get everything ,tell me how the shop is.. (reliability.. should i take the risk to order there from belgium?)
  13. No way to know for sure, but my guess is that the 'green drive' trend will continue. Hence, I recommend the 430CX for your 12-13 drive server. thats enough for 13 right? ok thx will get that one then
  14. not sure what to chose, how will i know for sure what to buy in the future of hdds? when 3&4tb will come, will they be green and 7200?... can you guys give me advice what to buy 430cx, 500cx or 550vx
  15. arent both 430 and 500cx drives less energy efficiency? thatswhy i chose the 550vx...
  16. Nevermind the cage questions made up my mind to go for the coolermaster.. its only 10 euro more... no hot swap for me (not willing to pay the extra amount of money just to be easier to swith a hard drive once in a year?) so getting to final choice: WD Caviar Green WD20EARS artnr. 249646 : stukprijs a € 83,70 € 83,70 Kingston ValueRAM artnr. 80156 : stukprijs a € 47,68 € 47,68 ASUS M4A78LT-M artnr. 257521 : stukprijs a € 52,87 € 52,87 Processor artnr. 244809 : stukprijs a € 57,95 € 57,95 Corsair VX550W artnr. 53576 : stukprijs a € 75,99 € 75,99 Cooler Master Centurion 590 artnr. 68676 : stukprijs a € 70,70 € 70,70 Total:388,89 euro + Delivery cost:12,99euro Total: 401,9euro Just doubting about the psu, if its not overrated..., i will have a maximum of 12-13 drives Do i need cables? or extra fans?
  17. Also can i build coolermaster 4in3 into a sharkoon rebel 9 case?
  18. the antec 1200 is a full tower not a midi one.. even way out of my budget + final choice will be coolermaster 590 or sharkoon 9 (pro) anyone can answer this: if i take the coolermaster i automatically get one 4in3 for free (no hotswap) if i add 3 more 3in 2 (does it exist in non hot swap) i get a total of 13 disks.... and its way cheeper?
