  1. I need help please! I built a unraid server over a year ago using the tutorials found here & on the wiki. I followed the directions exactly & was able to get it up & running. My TOWER has been running smoothly ever since. I have a HTPC in the living room & a PC in the office both running Windows 7. I have always been able to access all my files on the server by going to Start/Computer/Network/TOWER/ & whatever folder... I have always had full access to those folders from PC & HTPC. I recently formatted my PC & now I cannot access TOWER on the Network. I see it in the browser, but when i click on it i get an "Enter Network Password" box (which i never used to get) I can still access from HTPC with no password I never remember setting a password & I have tried all my regular username/passwords to no avail. I have also tried root username with blank password & a whole lot of other combos. I have been scouring the internet to find the solution & have tried many things including changing tons of settings in windows control panel, to many to list. My unraid has been on auto-pilot & i forget how to do many of the things in it. I also tried to telnet into tower by using login: root password blank, it says login failed. (I never remember changing this...) I am running unraid version 4.6 and I can get to unmenu by typing tower/8080 in my chrome browser bar althougth certain tabs ask for password that I cant get into...This seems like more of a windows problem but I have not been able to find the solution elsewhere or in this forum. Please, does anybody know what i can do to be able to simply view those network folders on my browser in my PC. Please be specific on account of my ignorance... Thank You in advance
  2. was able to get drives recognized as sdx. the option was in the chipset menu like you said. Thanks again for everyones help & patience with me
  3. ok. i was looking at mobo manual not bios manual. i see it now. thank you, i will check that in my bios tonight
  4. i dont see anything in my manual or online manual on pages 5 & 28 that corresponds with that. i guess my mobo is actually: TA785G3+ according to manual that came with it, not: TA785G3 HD if that makes a difference... i looked at both manuals online i have looked through every single option of bios but have not seen AHCI mentioned even once. I referred to boot menu just to show that it does recognize drives as SATA on that screen. I will look again & focus on chipset screen. I got this board because i didnt think i'd have to do a whole lot of tweaking as many reccomend it for unraid. I'm getting tired of taking array down & switching keyboard & monitor back & forth from my pc to my unraid tower to keep going into bios. I'm about ready to preclear drives as hdx... Sorry to be a pain but does anyone know the exact bios page & setting specific for my mobo & bios version? Do i need to update bios? thanks
  5. i went into bios (v02.61) & see no way yo change settings to or from ahci mode or turn ports on/off on boot screen all drives are recognized as sata but they still show up as hdx in unraid devices menu. anything else i can try?
  6. sweet. thanks again for quick response. I will have to wait till i get home to get into the bios menu. I did try different cord & backplane slot & hdd. so it is definitely the mobo sata port, but hopefully it is just a setting. I will check the settings you mentioned. thanks again!
  7. So i've had thing up and running good for over a week now. I initially put 3 2tb seagates in array. 1 as parity, 2 as data & immediately started transferring data from my htpc & pc. I freed up 2 drives from my htpc, so i removed those & tried to add to unraid array. the drives are both WD green caviar disks. 1 is 2tb, the other is 1.5. i want to preclear them. My problem is when i stop array & go to devices the 2 new drives come up as hda & hdb. It should be sd(x) as they are sata drives. my 1st 3 drives are sda, sdb, sdc. The new drives are plugged in the same way with sata cables from the mobo to icy dock 5 in 3 cage. My mobo is: BIOSTAR TA785G3HD Is it a setting in the bios that i need to change? if so, what setting is it? (i haven't gone into bios yet & i'm not to familiar with bios settings) Can i just leave it as hd(x) is there any harm in that? Also the 1st sata port on mobo (sata0) did not work at all in initial setup. It would never recognize any drive connected to it. i just went to next port. i didnt want to go thru hassle of getting a new mobo. That couldn't be a bios/option issue too would it?? thanks
  8. thanks. worked great! i knew it was something easy like that. just needed to know HOW to do it
  9. I am setting everything up & having some trouble. For the longest time i could not find "tower" in network places. Finally after turning local firewall off i see it! I was going around in circles until i found the configuration tutorial. Alot of good info in there! I want to preclear my disks. I am tired of switching my monitor/keyboard back and forth from pc & server. The instructions say you can use telnet connection. I found Telnet on my PC but have no idea what to do next. What commands do i type into telnet to access "tower"? any help or pointing me to another post that explains this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  10. i was able to bend tabs using needle-nose, hammer & large screwdriver. Thanks for all the advice. i also received the last of the parts in the mail so i installed everything. did everything but fire it up. Now i just need to download unraid software to my flash drive. Any other advice for a first timer booting up for the first time??
  11. As prostuff1 said, I use a C clamp. I went to Home Depot and bought the one with the deepest mouth that I could find. Many standard sized C clamps won't work as they are too shallow. I sometimes also use a pair of long needle-nosed pliers to get the bend started, but generally the C clamp alone is enough. Mine looks very much like this: great. thanks. i will try tonight
  12. A c clamp works pretty well, or you can get a set of Nibblers to cut the tab off. Sweet. i'll try that. thanks for the info & the fast response!
  13. Raj, I went to go install the icy dock 5 in 3 cage in my antec 900 and it wouldnt fit because of those metal tabs sticking out into the cages. I noticed on your picture of the build with the 900-2 it looks like you bent those tabs out. How exactly did you do it? just curious the best way so i dont have to mess with it too much... Thanks
  14. thanks. sorry for late response. i actually found the biostar board on amazon & i went ahead and splurged & got the icy dock 5 in 3 cage. ordered all other parts from amazon & newegg. i get taxed by newegg as i'm in california. thanks for all your advice through these posts...
