  1. I'm still not sure what caused rootfs to suddenly go wonky as a result of the failed upgrade, but I backed up the flash and put a fresh install of 6.7.2 on it. The data drives came back up fine and I'm rebuilding parity now.
  2. I tried to upgrade from 6.6.7 last night to 6.7.2, but the upgrade failed. I only have 2GB of RAM since I don't really run any add-ons. I assumed that was the source of the upgrade failure and that I'd need to add more. After the failure, I kicked off a parity check and woke up this morning to a bigger issue. Now I'm seeing uninitialized csrf_token errors due to rootfs being full and the shares are inaccessible. Downloading diagnostics & logs from the GUI no longer works, but I copied/pasted the most recent syslog info into the attached file. I'm stuck and not sure what to do now. I'm halfway tempted just to back up my flash drive and do an offline upgrade to 6.7.2. root@Tower:~# df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on rootfs 826M 826M 8.0K 100% / tmpfs 32M 516K 32M 2% /run devtmpfs 826M 0 826M 0% /dev tmpfs 873M 0 873M 0% /dev/shm cgroup_root 8.0M 0 8.0M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup tmpfs 128M 508K 128M 1% /var/log /dev/sda1 3.8G 328M 3.5G 9% /boot /dev/loop0 8.2M 8.2M 0 100% /lib/modules /dev/loop1 4.9M 4.9M 0 100% /lib/firmware /dev/md1 3.7T 3.7T 21G 100% /mnt/disk1 /dev/md2 1.9T 1.9T 3.4G 100% /mnt/disk2 /dev/md3 1.9T 1.9T 4.5G 100% /mnt/disk3 /dev/md4 1.9T 1.8T 25G 99% /mnt/disk4 /dev/md5 1.9T 1.9T 1.8G 100% /mnt/disk5 /dev/md6 1.9T 1.9T 16G 100% /mnt/disk6 /dev/md7 3.7T 3.6T 54G 99% /mnt/disk7 /dev/md8 3.7T 2.0T 1.7T 55% /mnt/disk8 shfs 21T 19T 1.8T 92% /mnt/user SYSLOG.txt
  3. One of my disks red balled with write errors out of the blue. I checked all the connections and they seemed fine. The SMART log looks fine to me. Should I try un-assigning and re-assigning it? smartctl 5.40 2010-10-16 r3189 [i486-slackware-linux-gnu] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-10 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Green (Adv. 4. After consistently being under 5MB/sec last night, I woke up this morning to 25+MB/sec for no apparent reason. Who knows. At this rate I'll let it go.
  5. Parity check is running between 1.5MB/sec and 5MB/sec. I'm on 5.0rc11. I plan to upgrade to rc16, but do not have valid parity at the moment and want to get that out of the way first. I was in the process of adding a new drive. Right after I added it, I accidentally took it out of the array at one point and triggered invalid parity. This system has been slow for a while now, but I've just been living with it. An estimated two weeks for a parity check is way too long though. Syslog is attached. I have six 2TB data drives. The parity drive and the new drive are 4TB each. Any suggestions would be appreciated. syslog.txt
  6. It pains me to pay that much considering how cheap drives were pre-shortage and considering I bought the last Seagate drive in my area $5 cheaper a few days ago for my server. The 300GB drive on my PC just kept filling up though. I ordered one for in store pickup last night and have it up and running with no issues.
  7. Same here. I managed to snatch the last one at my Best Buy, although I really needed two of them.
  8. I thought about attaching an SSD, but never thought about extra storage with esata. I might have to look into that when I eventually max out the storage.
  9. I only have about 400GB free of the original 4TB of storage space and am filling it up quickly. I put in orders for parts to build out 10 more drive bays this morning to get the server up to 15 total, but haven't ordered any drives yet. I may not need the additional 5 in 3 bays right away, but I might as well go ahead at the rate I'm filling up space now. Now I just need to find a good deal on some 2TB drives. 2 X Supermicro CSE-M35T1B Mobile Rack http://www.buy.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=10344799 1 X Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 8-Port SAS/SATA Add-on Card https://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AOC-SASMV8 2 X 0.75m 30AWG Internal Mini SAS 36pin (SFF-8087) Male w/ Latch to SATA 7pin Female (x4) Forward Breakout Cable - Black http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10254&cs_id=1025406&p_id=8187&seq=1&format=2 1 X SATA2 Serial ATA II PCI-Express RAID Controller Card (Silicon Image SIL3132) https://www.monoprice.com/myaccount/od.asp?order_no=5253608&user_id=2066464
  10. Just a couple of things you might want to clean up in the guide: =================================================================================== 1. I'm guessing you meant to add the host name to the login mysql login command, not the user. Otherwise you'll get an "Unknown MySQL server host 'root'" error - mysql -u tower -p Then type the MySQL password you entered. =================================================================================== 2. This can probably be removed since you already mention creating this database along with the movies database in the previous step:
  11. I did the same. You should've seen the look on my wife's face as she rushed into the room and saw me beating the snot out of the brand new computer case that came in the mail that day I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up a C clamp though when it comes time for the second 5 in 3 since I'll need to be more careful.
  12. We're rocking and rolling now. I even managed to get ps3ms up and running thanks to the great contributions to the forum. Here are a few pictures I took on my cell during the build...
  13. I added another drive to make it 3 WD20EARS and switched to a Kingston DataTraveler G3 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. I ordered the supermicro enclosure from Amazon instead of Newegg since the price was the same and shipping is free with Amazon Prime. Jumper caps were relatively cheap there too. My poor wife is hoping she'll get to buy my christmas present for me one year. I would've offered to let her click the "confirm order" button, but something tells me I'd get whacked.
  14. My proposed shopping list on newegg is below. This build will be based on Raj's 5->10->15 drive budget box here - http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=7998.0. I plan to start out with two WD20EARS and work my way up from there. I'll need to get some jumpers for the EARS, but will I need to get any additional cables or anything else for this build? I plan to start with the free unRaid license since I'll only have 2 drives at first. Any suggestions or comments are welcome before I pull out the wallet.
