  1. My build was a Gigabyte Z68A board - so just a basic consumer grade MB. Very surprised it has lasted. In reply to a question above - yes it still does everything I need! no issues with running a few dockers and/or a few streams. I was a bit worried about the costs going up which also made me wonder about building a DDR4 build. However guess I'll keep the Z68A going for awhile longer!
  2. Hi, My Unraid server has been running since ~2012 and, aside from adding HDDs now and then, its the same motherboard/cpu/ram. I have been wondering how long it can last and if I should proactively plan on building a new one. There is nothing wrong with it and no signs of failure but at 13 years is it statistically bound to happen soon? thoughts or advice? thanks
  3. *updated. Via user script plugin I created a script with these lines and set it to run when array starts for the first time. hope this helps if anyone else has the same issue: root@TOWER:~# ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off root@TOWER:~# ethtool -s eth0 speed 2500 duplex full I found a suggestion that may have worked. How can I make this persistent after reboot? 4. Hi, I just put a Intel X550-T2 card in my server - switched it to eth0 and rebooted and can connect OK. However the NIC is only detected at 1Gb. I was going for 2.5Gb as that is what my new switch (Unifi cloud gateway Fiber) supports (connected by about 50ft of Cat6). I've read about issues with 2.5Gb and the need to force this speed? here is current status: root@TOWER:~# ethtool eth0 Settings for eth0: Supported ports: [ TP ] Supported link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full 2500baseT/Full 5000baseT/Full Supported pause frame use: Symmetric Supports auto-negotiation: Yes Supported FEC modes: Not reported Advertised link modes: 100baseT/Full 1000baseT/Full 10000baseT/Full Advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes Advertised FEC modes: Not reported Speed: 1000Mb/s Duplex: Full Auto-negotiation: on Port: Twisted Pair PHYAD: 0 Transceiver: internal MDI-X: Unknown Supports Wake-on: d Wake-on: d Current message level: 0x00000007 (7) drv probe link Link detected: yes any suggestions on how to connect it at 2.5 ? thanks,
  5. Hi, I have had this issue for awhile and been unable to fix it -and have read through all of the other posts on it as well. Most of them point to people using pihole (as I do) and the need to put in correct DNS instead of pihole (which I have done). I've confirmed with NSlookup that I am using 8.8.8.8 from unraid... The issue is when I click "check for updates" it just spins and never stops. I'm on 6.12.13 any ideas on other things I could try to troubleshoot? thanks tower-diagnostics-20250110-1749.zip
  6. thanks after stepwise swapping out cables, then ports on the switch (all were fine) it would up being the drivers for the NIC in the pC - updated to newest realtek and speeds back up to 112MB. appreciate the help
  7. Hi - for many years I transferred files to unraid at about ~110mb/s. Several years ago it dropped to ~95mb/sec and has been like that ever since. This is when using SSD cache drives and copying a file to cache (have tried via one large file like a windows.iso and same result). I was trying to figure it out today - both my PC and Unraid connected at 1GB, and both hardwired /not wireless. Iperf3 results seem to back this up with transfer to unraid at ~93mb/s and tranfer from unraid back to my PC at ~113mb/s. any ideas on how I can get the transfer-to-unraid back up to ~113 ? thanks
  8. thanks - I checked all of my other shares and they were at 195.3 GB - not sure why as I never set that. So I made this share the same thing. appreciate all of the help
  9. thanks - I can see the settings now. any idea why minimum free space is zero? and what it should be ?
  10. Hi - misunderstanding on data.cfg- that was specific to the OP. for my issue with pictures - see below screenshot of the settings page for it, and for pictures.cfg contents. thanks
  11. that must be it then - never thought about that (only 2 being 6..). thanks for the help on this .. now on to trying to figure out why the server keeps locking up requiring hard shutdown. As you can see its a ~12 year old server that has been running very well until recently so I think something is failing. thanks
  12. Hi - see attached thanks tower-diagnostics-20250101-1248.zip
  13. Hi, I have a few drives which are showing up as set to 3Gb/s - but capable of full 6Gb/s (two are HDD, one is a SDD in my cache pool). I reseated the SATA cables, and tried replacing the SATA cables all together - no luck. They are all using SATA ports on the MB not a card - and other devices on the MB SATA ports are showing correctly as current 6GB/s. any suggestions on how to troubleshoot? I have searched / read and also see that it wont make any difference to performance - except possibly the one SSD running at 3GB... but still I don't like things not working correctly... thanks
  14. also - the share that does not work is "pictures" all of the other shares have correct settings page
  15. see attached probably a lot of other stuff going on in there as I am working on other issues right now .. --trying to convert BTRFS to ZFS cache pool --moving data of disk 3 as have a smart error tower-diagnostics-20250101-0957.zip
  16. Hi - I am having the same issue. I have a share with a 'blank' settings page in the GUI. I checked in /config/shares and there is no "data.cfg" file...as I was going update it as suggested above. any ideas? thanks
  17. Hi, I have an issue for the last few releases where on my docker tab when I click "check for updates" it just spins forever. I have searched on this and one possible reason is pihole - I run a pihole on a ri-pi and another via unraid-docker. However in Unraid network settings DNS settings I manually put in 1.1.1.1 for primary and 8.8.8.8 for secondary so it should bypass pihole (my Asus merlin router points toward pihole DNS). I'm looking for other ideas on how to troubleshoot? I am on latest version 6.12.9. thanks
  18. thanks, yes the T400 is for any transcoding (mainly via Emby) needs. agree on the bios. I hooked up a monitor to it for the first time in years to check the LSI firmware. I went into the Z68 bios and it was a step back in time - only a few menus to go through. keyboard control, etc.
  19. thanks. I put the LSI in the x4 as the manual said if you put something in the x8 it will share with the x16 and they will both run at x8. So not sure if that limits the t400 i know I am on borrowed time with the z68. Who would have guessed 10 years running unraid on this board with no issues..
  20. I need to go back and see if I was comparing bytes to bits. Wish they would pick one and be consistent when specing hardware.
  21. Hi, I am getting ready to add a few drives and bought LSI SAS 9211-8i card (and got it working after figuring out the 'tape mod'). my build is quite old (but working ok) with a Gigabyte GA-Z68A-DH3-B3 motherboard. Before adding any thing I started to wonder if I had things plugged into optimal slots. The MB has 2 6GB SATA ports, and 4 3GB SATA ports. I currently have all 6 ports used (1 ssd cache drive and 5 HDD including parity). In regards to PCIe slots, the board is version 2. I have a nvidia T400 in the x16 top slot. I put the LSI card into the X16 "x4" slot. Then I realized I was not sure if I was bottlenecking something. It looks like a PCIe X4 version 2 has a 2GB/s speed which would be slower than any of the onboard SATA slots. Assume I should have the SSD in the onboard 6GB port? And if I add a 2nd SSD for dual cache I should use the other 6GB onboard. For HDDs - will I see a performance difference using onboard 3GB/s port versus the LSI card sharing a 2GB/S PCIe 4x slot? thanks for any comments / suggestions on how to configure this.
  22. Thanks. Unfortunately my situation is like the one in the link you shared .. Livetv related and one huge 100gb+ file grows.
  23. thanks - I set up the script so will see how that works out for me (hopefully "0 3 * * *" works for running daily at 3am...)
  24. Hi, I have had an issue for years where my emby transcoding file fills up my docker image on the cache drive. Each time I have to delete docker and reinstall the apps. This is due to roku not being closed down correctly (hitting home button instead of back button to exit emby roku app). However- I'll never get others in the house to do this correctly so need a different solution. Is there a way I can set it up for Emby Docker to just restart at 3am each night for example? this should shut down any transcoding. or other ideas? thanks
  25. thanks for the link - it is quite informative. A bit out of date (I see blue Iris is available now via docker). But still helpful- thanks
