The Power Supply Thread
I'm looking to buy a power supply for my new rack mounted server case and I'm interested in the idea of redundant power supplies. However every review I read on them, people complain about how loud the fans are on them which turns me off because my server is not in a dedicated server room. You can get ATX form factor redundant power supplies. They're not cheap. Redundant power supplies are noisy because they typically can not fit even 80mm fans in them. Smaller fans are noisy. To me, they are not worth it, if you do not have redundant power to separately feed them, and a UPS. You're better off with a quality spare PSU on the shelf. Yea that's what I've decided to do. My Seagate 8TB drives pull a max of 7.5w each and I've got 10 slots for them. My CPU being only 45w means I can probably get away with a pretty low wattage PSU.

Preclear plugin
I just tried removing and re-adding the plugin and now the icon looks different and it doesn't show up under Settings. Do I need to reboot after installing this plugin? If so I'll have to do that late. And yes I've confirmed the directory location is correct and I've reloading my browser. EDIT: Hmmmm, wonder if this is an issue with VMware. The script seem to install properly and work fine on my backup server which is baremetal.

I've got the plugin installed and the script is located in \\tower\flash\config\plugins\preclear.disk but the plugin still tells me the script is missing. What am I doing wrong?

Open VM Tools for unRAID 6
Done. I didn't see that there was a 6.1.3 release until today. Zeron, you are the man!

Any chance this will be updated for 6.1.3 since there was a kernel change to 4.1.7?

[Support] Linuxserver.io - Plex Media Server
I just installed the Linuxserver Plex docker and I'm seeing some log messages every few seconds that I'm unsure about. Just to note, I previously had needo's docker so when I installed the Linuxserver docker, the config folder contents were all from my old docker. Both those IPs are Windows 10 machines (PC and Surface).

[GUIDE] Virtualizing unRAID on Proxmox 3.1
I fooled with it for a few days but wound up going back to ESXi. I just like the management interface of the vSphere client much more than the Proxmox management options that are out there. I'd play around with Proxmox more in a test environment but for my home server I needed to get things up more quickly for functionality and I've been using VMware for years so I just didn't have the time to learn a new hypervisor like I wanted.

Pimp Your Rig
Just noticed this comment and am curious about exactly what the issue is. I'm thinking of ordering the U-NAS case, but am not sure what adapter you're referring to. There isn't one. Just that the PCI-E expander cable they include with the case was x16 and the Avaton board I had only had a PCI-E x8 slot that wasn't open ended so I couldn't fit the expander cable into it for my M1015 HBA. I could have just purchased a x8 expander cable but I decided I didn't need that much power for a backup server (or the quad NICs) so I decided to sell the board and get the cheaper J1900 board.

Pimp Your Rig
Any Feedback on the Avaton SoC and this Board? Setup is really nice! Also, what do you use to backup your main Unraid to this unas Unraid? Script? Plugin? Docker? I actually wound up swapping the Avaton board for a different SuperMicro board with a Celeron J1900 on it instead. First because the celeron is more than enough for a backup server and secondly because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards don't fit the expansion adapter that goes with the U-NAS case because the PCI-E slot on the Avaton boards do not have an open end. But all in all I absolutely love the case and the server has worked wonderfully as a backup. I used the free utility Syncback (garycase recommended it) to do the full transfer of 11TB from my main server to this backup and it worked wonderfully.

Re: Format XFS on replacement drive / Convert from RFS to XFS (discussion only)
It's not a race but this is my backup server and there is some data I'd like to get backed up to it ASAP.

Re: Format XFS on replacement drive / Convert from RFS to XFS (discussion only)
If I have 2 empty disks, can do 2 copying sessions in screen at once or will the speed be the same regardless?

noobie docker setup guide
Ok first time ever using/setting up Dockers and I'm trying to setup Plex. I'm on version 6b15 and this step has me a little confused. My docker.img file is located at /mnt/cache/docker.img. I didn't create any user share like it suggests earlier in the guide (I'm confused if that's still something that needs to be done on later versions of unRAID). What path should I be using for my config? One thing to note, I'm eventually going to try and move my current Plex database (on a Windows 7 machine) over to this docker and it's pretty large.

Is there a link still available for this plugin that will work with version 6b15 (old kernel)? I had to roll back to the old kernel since the new one is giving me USB device reset errors.

[GUIDE] Virtualizing unRAID on Proxmox 3.1
How are you enjoying Proxmox over ESXi? I haven't gotten to the point of testing Proxmox yet. I've been testing Hyper-V so far this week and that seems to be winding down since you can't pass through usb flash drives to Hyper-V guests and you can't install unRAID onto a SATA DOM SSD. So I'll probably start testing Proxmox this weekend or early next week.

[GUIDE] Virtualizing unRAID on Proxmox 3.1
I'm going to be testing my server with Proxmox and Hyper-V as an alternative to ESXi this week. Already have Proxmox setup so hopefully I'll have some time to mess with it tonight/tomorrow.

Compiled Info: unRAID as Guest on ESXi
Nice job combining all the resources into one thread. Noticed on typo though. Con of booting witih PLOP should be slower boot times not faster.

[GUIDE] Virtualizing unRAID on Proxmox 3.1
This guide is perfect as I'm going to test out unRAID on Proxmox (first time user) this weekend. Quick question on the above though. How does one actually edit the grub.cfg file while SSH'd in from Putty? I can move the cursor around with the arrow keys but I can't make any changes to the file. Pardon me for being a noob at this.

ESXi 5.x - pre-built VMDK for unRAID
Oh that's interesting. I guess it's something else with my install then. Is there anything else required for this to work other than the Clean Powerdown package (installed through unMenu)? Or is there a separate shutdown plugin I'm missing. Actually I think it was the Powerdown plugin (.plg) that is needed not the one from unMenu - but I could be wrong. You are correct. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=38279.msg381976#msg381976

I don't use unMenu so I don't know which powerdown package it provides. This is the one I use: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31735.0 Thanks Zeron!

Is the power down package/plugin that is required for this VMTools plugin to work just the one that can be installed through unMenu?

ESXi 5.x - pre-built VMDK for unRAID
I downloaded it and the comments in the PLG say that too (RC3). So now if I upgrade from 14b I will use the new PLG or upgrade them in the GUI if that is an option. Had a scare already today when that ESXi server wouldn't boot after a shut down. Did get that sorted but I have recordings scheduled on the Windows VM so will not do that tonight. So far only missed the local news but not going to miss anything else. Maybe tomorrow night. I just installed the plugin and I'm running rc5. The plugin doesn't appear to work with this version. I get this message when I try to restart or shutdown my unRAID guest VM.
