  1. Thanks. I totally forgot about this, since I set up unRAID many years ago. Yes, the Server really only has 2 GB of RAM. I just ordered another RAM module (maximum for this mainboard are 4GB sadly). Still it is weird that the download isn't store somewhere else for the update. It should be downloaded and extracted to the FAT32 partition (/dev/sda1) imho.
  2. I am running unRAID 6.9.2. First installation was unRAID v4 something. I am using a 16GB USB thumbdrive directly connected to the motherboard. I just found out that I can not update unRAID any longer, the download fails because there is not enough space available. I am running two identical servers (one for backup) and both have the same partition layout. I already searched but I can not remember if I set up the partition table myself like this or how to resize it on a running system. Apparently I am the first person to encounter this problem as a search turned up nothing. What can I do? I clearly need a larger root partition.
  3. Currently the USB is plugged in with v5 files. I have access to the web interface, ssh and the remote management, so I can reboot the server. In theory I can just overwrite the files with v6, reboot the server and hope for the best. It can't get any worse than this. Though the best solution would be, just to get the new license keys, scp them to the USB and reboot the server and have a working v5 again.
  4. Do you know if I can scp / overwrite all the files while unRaid is running? Like I said, I am not physically on site, I only have access using SSH through a remote gateway (and of course also access to the remote management of the motherboard).
  5. I took screenshots of the disk assignment, so I should be able to get it right. But that is actually good advice. I'm not physically on site now, I only have remote access through a gateway system (which would be enough to scp the key file to the USB), so I am not sure I can do the upgrade remotely while the box is running. If I don't hear back from support soon, I will have to try this. I wanted to avoid upgrading to 6x because 5x has been running perfectly and I feared that our hardware might not be fast enough for 6x. But I guess I will give it a try then. Attaching the HDDs directly is my last resort. I know it works, but I have no idea what is stored on which HDD. It would be quite a hassle to set this up for my father now.
  6. sadly, I am running still unRaid 5.0.6 on these boxes. I only posted here because I think the other forums are abandoned. But this would be a good opportunity to upgrade I guess. In case something like this happens again. We are more or less offline since 4 days now. I don't really want to pull a HDD out of the box to mount in locally somewhere.
  7. I had to replace both USB Keys on my fathers unRaid servers because they died. I contacted the support for replacement keys 4 days ago but haven't had a reply since then. My father is without backup and can't access his files now - which is quite a hassle. Any idea what I can do to access the files at least without breaking the array?
  8. My father just called that he had problems with his unRaid box. I saw that out of 4 HDDs only Parity and disk 3 was spun up and as he was trying to copy a file across it just stopped. The Dynamix GUI showed an error counter of 4000+ on that disk. It was fine the day before. I checked the SMART values and it said that everything is fine with that disk, although it was overheating (41 degrees, I set the alarm to 40, usually disks are around 36-38). I then proceeded to stop the array and issued a reboot but then the box didn't came back up. I was able to use teamviewer and log onto the IPMI interface but I could barely navigate there. I was able to see the following last three lines: I then rebooted it again, this time using unraid safe mode but the same error message appeared. the box had an uptime of 116 days before this issue. I already tried google but I couldn't find anything related to unRAID and I certainly didn't touch any of the files. All I did, aside the normal installation, was to install Dynamix Web GUI. However this was a long time ago so I don't even know what version of unRAID is running there. We have a 2nd box that I use for backup (mirror of the 1st one) and I started a backup yesterday but didn't finish it cause it was just too much data. It's installed identically though as the 1st one, just with different hostname and ip and it booted just fine. Is there anything else I can try to debug remotely?
  9. So you need a 2nd Mac next to your unraid Box. Aside from me not having anothe Mac to spare, that's exactly what I wanted to avoid. I wanted to have only one PC running which has the Storage and Services on the same Machine. Having another Mac share the iTunes library which is stored on unraid doesn't make sense for me
  10. I searched the forums already and it seems that SimpleFeatures is needed for iTunes Server. Since I use Dynamix that is out of the question. Is there any standalone plugin?
  11. my bad, I got confused with ether-wake since I happened to have been looking for it too (and that's what I'm using to wake up the PC now instead of ipmi). So in fact I don't have ipmitool for unraid. Hopefully tr0910 can still help you and upload it.
  12. thanks for the reply, but I did find it in another thread (damn can't find it right now) and it's working on unraid 5.
  13. And how do you use it from the command line? mail is not found, neither is sendmail.
  14. How is the dynamix plugin sending out the mails? unraid doesn't come with sendmail or mail command and I want to email the output of a backup script. Is there any way to use dynamix mail daemon instead of installing another one?
  15. same here. anyone got a compiled ipmiutil / ipmitool version for unraid 5.x?
  16. I am trying to wake another server from my unraid server. But I can not find a working etherwake package for unraid 5.x I found a lot of posts from 2010 on the forums, but either all the links are dead, or it's not on slackverse or it's not working on unraid 5.x (says cannot execute binary file). Can someone please post a working link to a working package? It doesn't have to be etherwake, I just need to send a magic packet. edit: the version attached to this thread seems to work: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6207.0
  17. Ah, I didn't knew it writes until 1/2 of the space was used, I thought it was 1/4 (that's why I monitored the 500GB). I know that I can create the folders by myself, but I used this as kind of experiment to see what is happening if I don't manually create anything and just write to the share. Thanks a lot for the clarification though.
  18. I'm a bit disappointed when it comes to power consumption because my i3 2100T idles at around 50W, whereas it was 30W (both times with HDDs spun down) when it ran Windows Home Server 2011. Linux isn't optimized that's clear, and it's not really unRaids fault. But since you switch from Unix to Linux, I estimate that the power consumption of the base system will be the same and only the disks will make a difference. Right now I'm copying a file to my unRaid's cache drive and the other drives are spun up and it takes 70W, whereas the WHS running a Raid 5 used between 50-60W during normal write / read operation. I was hoping to save some energy with unRaid compared to a Raid 5 solution but this only really applies when only one disk is spun up, then I might be just under 50W.
  19. I installed a new unRaid Server at my father and now I'm migrating the old NAS using rsync to copy everything to /mnt/user/Media Media is my User Share, which is set to split level 2, the directory structure is like this: Media/Pictures/Year (so 2014, 2013 and so on) or Media/Videos/Year (again 2014, 2013 and so on) I wanted to keep each Year folder on one disk and not split across multiple disks. I did not create any folders by hand on the disks and just started rsyncing to the Media folder. Now it copied already 500GB to it but it only writes to disk 1. There are 3x 2TB drives installed + Parity (which is not yet added to the array). Also it's set to HighWater - will it automatically write to another drive by itself or do I have to manually do something? I was under the impression that it should at some point write to another drive but it doesn't seem to do so. Is it safe to manually move files from drive to another later on?
  20. Well I posted it in the Dynamix Thread now, since it's likely that one of the plugins or slackware packages is the cause of the crashes. See here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=30939.msg300217#msg300217
  21. I installed Dynamix 2.2.3 and the same version of the Plugin Manager, then I installed all the Plugins I need via the WebGUI. I added a syslog now with Dynamix enabled - I had it disabled to be able to do the Initial Parity Sync (creation). As for the SATA Errors on ata.8 - that is my Cache drive which is connected to an external PCIe controller - I had to purchase a new one since with the old one unRaid wouldn't even boot (even if the chipset should have been compatible), now this one gives me a lot of ata errors but during parity sync I had the cache drive disconnected - just to make sure that it is not the cause of the problems. Aside from those errors it's performing fine (can copy to it at roughly 80 MB/s, it's a very old drive so that's fine). another Problem with Dynamix: I tested S3 Sleep manually for the first time. As before, Dynamix does not spin down my whole array so I have to manually do it. It took quite long but the server went to sleep, but when it came up, the shares were available right away but the Dynamix WebGUI took like 3-5 minutes to be available - is that normal? syslog.txt
  22. For some reason Dynamix seems to crash my UnRaid Server. I did the initial Parity Build twice now, and everytime the Server completely crashes and spins down all the disk at around 75%, no message written to the syslog except from the s3 plugin. Keyboard is not working anymore, not even the powerbutton does work (I have to turn it off by holding it for 4 seconds). Then I removed dynamix from /boot/plugins and the Parity sync completed. I also had other issues with Dynamix, for example an empty disk not spinning down even though in the syslog I saw that the spindown command was sent to the disk - no problems without Dynamix either. The problem is, I really need some of the plugins from Dynamix, like the s3 sleep. How can I debug this and find the cause for the crashes?
  23. I didn't want to keep another PC running (usually they are set to sleep automatically too), that's why I used screen to copy the output of tail -f to the sd card, but like I said it didn't show anything before the crash, except messages from the s3 plugin from dynamix. I finally managed to get the parity sync to complete while running unraid in safe mode - so I can only assume that dynamix is responsible for the crashes. But that doesn't help me a lot because I need most of the plugins from dynamix - that's the whole reason I chose unraid over something like FreeNAS. Because I want Email Notifications, SMART monitoring and most important, s3 sleep. If I can't use those plugins unRaid is essentially worthless to me. damn.
  24. and it crashed again, at around 75%...PC is running but it seems to have shutdown all HDDs since power consumption dropped from 70W to 50W. network is not responding anymore, keyboard not responding as well. Computer is literally dead. This time I installed screen and had it tail -f /var/log/syslog > /boot/mylog so that I could actually see the log. Server died without even an entry to the syslog. Great, I'm running a Pro License and can't even get the initial Parity Sync to work, so that means I'm running just a regular Linux server with a bunch of disks without any parity.
  25. Last night I finally installed the Parity disk into unRaid. Since I mostly use 4TB drives it should take close to 24h to finish. This morning I get up to check on the status but the server is dead. It's running but unresponsive. I connected a monitor to it, but it only showed the login, keyboard was not working, network was not working. Even the power button did nothing! I had to press it for 5 seconds to shut it off. Of course the logs from last night are gone, so I don't know what happened. What else can I do? My initial joy of unraid is starting to fade fast. I had so many issues, so many crashes, disks spinning all night even with 0 zero devices on the network (router / switch gets turned off during night, still the server continues to run) and last but not least I had hoped that the power consumption would decrease compared to my old Windows Raid 5 Server - well during Parity sync is takes 70W now instead of the 50W during a Raid 5 rebuild. That's 20W more just for it being Linux and not Windows. you see I'm kinda pissed off at the moment.
