  1. Been using unraid for a while now and decided it's time for an upgrade.

    Currently using a Supermicro C2SEA and an AOC-SAS-MV8 along with a PCI-E two port SATA card and a TBS 6284 Quad Tuner DVB-T2 which also uses a PCI-E slot.

    Works flawlessly other than an intermittent issue with the SATA card meaning I only run 14 drives rather than the 15 theoretical maximum I could get in my case (3 x 5 in 3 hotswap caddies).

    What I'd like to do is upgrade my motherboard, CPU and memory using the 1150 socket and use virtualisation for unraid, a Linux os, and possibly a windows version to give me some more options regarding tv utilisation to serve XBMC clients around the house. I'm not averse to upgrading my SAS card to something like a M1015 if it helped performance.

    In the future I can see me upgrading to a bigger case like this one so I'd like to keep the option of adding more SAS cards.  http://www.xcase.co.uk/pc-cases/home-server-pc-cases/x-case-rm-424-24-hotswap-bay-6gb-mini-sas-sata-sas-backplane-rail-kit-included.html

    Edit: The supermicro X10SAT looks like it might fit the bill?  Possibly combining it with a 4765T processor.

    Anybody got any thoughts, comments or suggestions?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. Quick update on VDR progress:

    I posted a few months ago about trying to get piotrasd's VDR packages up and running.  I have finally had a chance to get somewhere with this.  So far, I have 5.0 stable with an HDHomeRun and VDR working for the first time this afternoon.  Right now, I can pause and resume live TV for ATSC OTA channels in the US.  I have been documenting my steps so I can post a detailed how-to once I get it all figured out.  Hang with me!  more to come!  Cheers!

    Great, I'll be very interested to read that, want to try it on a DVB-T2 system in the UK.  Look forward to hearing all about it.

  3. I get problems with constantly refreshing as well.  Both in IE & Firefox, persists after restarting.  Plugins installed are Sickbeard, SABNzbd, XBMCSalud, APC & Mysql (Old Version - Tried updating to your plugin but ran into some problems and don't really have the time to delve into it at the moment & my fiance wouldn't be happy if I broke things!)  Also got TVHeadEnd running as well.

    But would still like to thank you for all your hard work and superb ideas!

  5. Ikosa

    I have the same issue :0

    just never really cared ... the mysql server is working fine .....

    it would be nice if somebody could make a new plugin for this... with update button if possible .....

    but not my cup of tea to do that...

    i guess i can but dont want to put my nose into somebodies plugin. is p1lot retired? :)

    I updated the plugin and posted it a while back, it wasn't a problem.  Vaguely remember there being some issues with a newer version and xbmc compatibility but I may be wrong.

  7. The scripts posted a while back work a treat for me! Ill post when I recompile but I'm waiting it to be 100% compatible with the new WebGui and my plugin packages before I upgrade! :)

    Yeah I tried those and it worked to an extent, just couldn't seem to get the drivers for my card into the image. (TBS DVB-T2 Quad Tuner)

  8. For would-be VDR users...

    I am working through piotrasd's VDR packages to get VDR running on my box (using an HDHomeRun / ATSC in the US)

    So far, through trial and error and a lot of web searches on VDR, I have gotten VDR to load and to recognize my tuners without stopping itself.  I can access the web interface on port 8008, though that is just the tip of the iceberg, I think.

    In any case, I have been keeping a detailed text file on every step I have taken along the way.  The goal is to put together a "how-to" when I am finished, much like KidCastro did for HDHomeRun users with TVH a few pages back in this thread.

    I have no idea how long it will take to get it right, but so far today I have made decent progress.  As soon as I get it completely working, I'll post my "how-to" for you guys to try.  I am hoping for completion within a few days to a week, time permitting at night.  Cheers!

    Thanks TorchRedRob.  Look forward to hearing all about it.

  9.

    Now I have heard that tvheadend is easy to set up but VDR is more stable and flexible.

    @piotrasd: Since you have used both on unraid, VDR and tvheadend, could you summarize your experience and contrast both solutions against each other?

    Also I am very curious how to install VDR on unraid (piotrasd has made the necessary packages available, but I don't know how to use them).

    Thanks for caring,

    JC

    I'd be interested in this too.. ::)

  10. How did you manage to get all the thumbnails stored on the server, would be interested in doing that myself.

    In the advancedsettings.xml file you need to add:

    <pathsubstitution>
    <substitute>
    	<from>special://masterprofile/Thumbnails</from>
    	<to>smb://192.168.0.201/Media/Thumbnails/</to>
    </substitute>
    </pathsubstitution>

    replace the IP address with that of your server and the "Media/Thumbnails" part with the location you would like them stored.

    Overall the experiment with setting it up this way when pretty well.  It is going to take a little work to get my main XBMC box moved over but is just a matter of finding the time more than anything else.  The room mates get grumpy when I make changes and they can't watch their movies and tv shows.

    Thanks mate, I'll give that a go.

  11. I got XBMC up and running using a mysql database on my test unRAID machine.  It all went pretty well, just a few things I changed.

    The other thing I changed was to have my thumbnails and the like stored on the server so that all XBMC clients use the same ones and see the same thing.

    Will probably get it set up this way on my main XBMC machine after the weekend is over and I get back from vacation.

  12. Seems to be working well for me, agree that it would be nice to have notifications on the front end in the lounge but it's great otherwise, other thing I thought of is whether there is a way to trigger a library update every twenty four hours or so to pick up anything I've added manually.

    Really appreciate all the hard work, fantastic job! Thank you so much.
