unRAID shouldn't always create system shares
It does, I just booted up a fresh install of unRAID, on an AM1 system that doesn't do VMs. The shares were created.

unRAID shouldn't always create system shares
So, I don't and can't run VMs on one of my unRAID boxes, but it still creates the isos, domains shares, and still creates the libvrt folder inside system. Useless and untidy. It really bugs my OCD. Could it be changed that these are only created when VM support is turned on?

New Emby Docker
So, I saw someone on the Emby forums asking about iGPU (and therefore QuickSync) not working on the Emby Docker on unRAID. It works on Plex OK, apparently. Any ideas? Would love to get QS working. The post is here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/9754-docker/page-34#entry415253

[Question] Can Unraid be installed on a raspberry pi?
With good component and PSU choices, it's possible to get unRAID to idle at about 8W. It should be possible to go a little lower than that if you go to picoPSU and a good external power brick. My i3 unRAID box idles at about 10W, for example. Lower than that, you might struggle, but I have seen 6W using an Athlon 5350 with a passive cooler, and a single fan (a 120mm/140mm fan can use 1W!).

Got lian-li pcq25 case need recommendations for rest of it
Personally, I think ECC RAM is a pointless expense. I've got 6 workstations at work that have been running close to 8 years 24/7 (old Dell Precision T5400 dual Xeon things), and they've never logged an ECC correcting. 6 machine each running for 8 years. That's no ECC memory errors in 48 running years! So, I'd recommend the following: i3-6100, Gigabyte GA-Z170N Wifi (it has 6 SATA ports and a M.2 slot on the back, At least 8GB RAM. I'd also recommend swapping out the 140mm fan in the front, while also losing the dust filter. I also tend to not use the top fan, it's not at all required for a NAS box. I've had great results from the Noctua NF P14s Redux 1200 http://noctua.at/en/nf-p14s-redux-1200-pwm fans, which are quiet and plenty of airflow.

OpenVPN Server & Client for unRAID 6.2+ (6.1 are still supported)
Most routers work with no-ip. I use my router to do the ddns stuff, as it always updates the IP as long as it has an internet connection. It's more reliable than doing it any other way.

[support] gfjardim's Docker Repository
OK, so I have CUPS working to share the printer, that's working fine. It's just the Google Cloud Print part I'm struggling with.

[support] gfjardim's Docker Repository
Just trying to set up CUPS. Specifically want it for Google Cloud Print to my networked printer (Ricoh Aficio SG3110DN). I have set up an app password in my Google account, but I get this: *** Running /etc/my_init.d/config.sh... grep: /config/cloudprint/Service State: No such file or directory Google authentication failed. *** /etc/my_init.d/config.sh failed with status 1 *** Killing all processes... Any ideas?

First unRAID build (H87I-PLUS / Lian Li PC-Q25)
I've been using Noctua 140mm fans for years in my various PC-Q25 cases. Never had a problem with them as far as cooling or reliability goes. I only use the front fan, leaving the top fan hole open.

unRAID on QNAP TS-451
You can boot Asustor NAS units in to UNRAID, and you don't even need to open them up to do it. They boot off USB by default.

Rebuild N40L or Start fresh???
DS380 is OK, but the drive cooling and PSU config are both areas of concern for me. I'm also not keen on the side fans.

Rebuild N40L or Start fresh???
If you like the old Microserver form factor, consider an Asustor NAS. UnRAID runs fine on them, and they're very like the HP Microserver you have. They'll boot off the USB like any other PC (the Asustor NAS is just a PC that boots off an internal flash DOM).

[Plugin] unbalanced
I'm running it at the moment, evacuating a 3TB Red that's sounding very ill. I'll let you know the results.

Pimp Your Rig
I picked up 3x Supermicro SAS2LP-MV8 cards for US$200 off eBay. I see no difference in performance compared to my LSI card, and the Supermicros use less power.

ZFS filesystem support
+2 Running ZFS on OpenMediaVault and it's fantastic. Shame OMV's base OS is a little long in the tooth (Debian Wheezy). I also see FreeNAS is moving to version 10 with a total re-write, and moving to a sort of "AppCafe" system using iocage. It's in early alpha - I've had a quick play and it looks very, very nice for a home media server. The system requirements are harsh, though - 8GB RAM minimum.

The Power Supply Thread
Obviously garycase doesn't like Corsair PSUs. I, on the other hand think they're great. I have: CX450 - 24/7 use in my mother's PC, just under 4 years. CS450M - 24/7 use in my server CX750 - 24/7 for 3 years at 90% load running a number of bitcoin miners RM750 - 4/7 for about a year in my severely overclocked gaming rig. It rarely spins it's fan, and it gets a hammering from the 4.5GHz i5, and two GTX780s. I've had zero issues with any of them, and the modular PSUs all use the same cables, so I've no fuss figuring out which cables belong to which PSU. Then again, I also really like Corsair RAM, my AIO water cooler is Corsair, and I have a few Corsair cases.

BackBlaze Reports
HGST are still selling 5TB 7200rpm Deskstar NAS drives. Possibly 6TB as well? WD have a 6TB Enterprise drive now as well (AE maybe, I don't remember?)

Do you use spin up groups?
As others have said, I voted no, because I didn't realise it would solve the issue I have with Plex pausing at change of media when the new media is on a spun down drive. The spinup groups would solve this issue and improve WAF.
-
Do you use spin up groups?
Might be to you, but I use them quite a bit. So, not useless. Perhaps you can explain how you are using them, it would be beneficial to have an understanding. Spin down if I know I'm finished using the shares, so the drives don't have to run needlessly for 30 mins or more. Spin up to save time when shutting the server down, or if I'm going to be using Plex, so there's no delay when starting a movie or show. I basically have Dashboard open all the time, and preempt the server spinning up or down the drives. Spinup groups? Don't use them now, but I can see merit in them, so I say keep them.

The Definitive State/Color/Icon Guide
All I have to say is I'm green/blue colour-blind, so I really can't see the difference between the two. Not everyone has the same colourblindness.

Silverstone DS380 thread?
All the vital cooling in my house is running with Gentle Typhoons. My gaming rig's H100i has a pair of 120mm Gentle Typhoons (the 1250rpm version), and my server's main cooling is a 1500rpm Gentle Typhoon. The air flow from those things is immense, and they don't need any rubber mounting or such-like as they run so smooth. I like seeing a fan take 15-20 secs to stop spinning from ~1000rpm after powered off. Big heavy motor and beautifully made bearings.

First unRAID build (H87I-PLUS / Lian Li PC-Q25)
Absolutely it's more than good enough for v6. Only thing I'd be wanting to do is a bigger cache device, but even that is likely to be unnecessary. Definitely move to Dockers, they really are the way forward. Even MS is working with Docker for Windows 10, so Dockers are going to become very, very popular which is nothing but a good thing.

Downsizing my unRAID -- e-ATX to mini-ITX
It's a huge shame the Q25 is more or less end of line. They're nearly impossible to get now in EU, and they're expensive if they are in stock. I've had two of them in the past, and sold them both. I still sort of regret that. In fact, my old unRAID 5 box was in a PC-Q25B with an Asus P8-H61I Plus and a Pentium G620. It was a solid little machine.

First unRAID build (H87I-PLUS / Lian Li PC-Q25)
Very strange. Have you plugged/unplugged your disks a lot? Hot-swap backplanes are generally designed for ~ 50 cycles (plug/unplug). If you've done a lot more than that, then it's understandable why they'd start breaking. It's the other side of the backplane, where the SATA cables plug in. The SATA power connections are particularly bad, they're nearly unusable now, so I have to use the molexes. I was just looking, and this case is about 3 years old, and it's been in constant use, with about 6 different machines in it over that time. The rest of the case is obviously fine, it'd just need a new backplane PCB. I'm quite pleased with the new case I'm using, considering the price (£33 delivered), it's nicely built, and take 6 HDDs and has two 5.25" bays. I'm running a 120mm Silent Typhoon in the front as the only cooling, and the HDDs are running less than 8C above ambient with the fan running at 500rpm off the Asus' Q-Fan system. The only other cooling is the PSU fan (seriously over-specced 600W OCZ 80Plus Silver unit, but it's the only PSU I have with enough SATA cables that'll reach.
