  1. I have a 2TB drive that I had laying around (it may even have been in my unRAID server at one point) so I put in in my unRAID server and ran a pre-clear on it. The pre-clear passed and the smart report showed a Reallocated Sector Count of 56 and a Reported uncorrect count of 15. The Current Pending Sector count was 0. I rand a pre-clear again, it passed and the counts remained the same. Do you guys think that the drive is safe to use in my unRAID server? Chris
  2. Jonathanm, I started to play around with some things shortly after I posted my questions. I'm not sure if this will get me where I want to be but here is what I have done so far. I installed a new VM running centOS and the PowerPanel Business Edition for Virtual Machines Agent. I connected the UPS to my VM host and was able to successfully configure PowerPanel to properly shutdown all of the VMs, as well as the ESXi host itself. I am now researching how to tell the unRAID server to stop the array and shutdown as well. Any ideas?
  3. I apologize if this question does not belong her but I was not sure where to ask. I currently have a dedicated unRAID Server which is connected to a CyberPower UPS. The unRAID server is connected to the UPS via USB and the server powers down when there is a power outage as intended. Also connected to the UPS is a Dell server running VMWare ESXi 5.5. Inside the host is five or six VMs running Windows 2012 Server. I would like the VMs and the ESXi host to power down in the event of a power outage as well. What is the best way to accomplish this, if at all possible? I look forward to hearing your thoughts! Chris
  4. I need to move files from one SMB share to another SMB share. How can I go about doing this using Putty and Midnight Commander? The only instructions that I can find talk about moving data between disks and not shares. Thanks.
  5. I decided to run the preclear again but here is the SMART report. Based on the errors reported so far, I am guessing that this drive is on its way to failing. I assume that I can just cancel the preclear, yank the drive and throw it away???
  6. How do I find the smart report? I looked around and couldn't find anything. Chris
  7. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. If it is will an moderator please move this post. I had a 2TB disc that was part of my array that started throwing up errors. These errors included relocated sectors, current pending sectors and offline uncorrectable errors. I replaced the 2TB drive with a new one. For the heck of it, I ran a preclear on the 2TB drive after removing it from the array and it seemed to be successful. Confused on why it passed, I ran PreClear again and the drive passed the second time as well. Please see the results below. I am not sure what is going on but do you think it is safe to add the drive back into the array? ############################################################################################################################ # # # unRAID Server Preclear of disk Z240PZCJ # # Cycle 1 of 1, partition start on sector 64. # # # # # # Step 1 of 5 - Pre-read verification: [2:40:06 @ 146 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 2 of 5 - Zeroing the disk: [4:12:52 @ 131 MB/s] SUCCESS # # Step 3 of 5 - Writing unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 4 of 5 - Verifying unRAID's Preclear signature: SUCCESS # # Step 5 of 5 - Post-Read verification: [4:21:19 @ 127 MB/s] SUCCESS # # # # # # # # # # # # # # # ############################################################################################################################ # Cycle elapsed time: 11:14:25 | Total elapsed time: 11:14:26 # ############################################################################################################################ ############################################################################################################################ # # # S.M.A.R.T. 8. Thanks. Just to confirm, I can do rearrangement of the disk locations within unRAID, as well as physically relocate some of the drives in my server to different slots, prior to starting the array and building the parity...correct? Also, if a drive happens to fail during the parity rebuild then i am SOL and will lose the data on the drive, correct?
  9. I have a 2 TB data disc that just threw up an exclamation mark in the dashboard. The drive has relocated sectors, current pending sectors and offline uncorrectable errors. I had an 8 TB WD Red laying around so I went through the preclear process on that drive and mounted it in a new slot and formatted the drive. This is where I may have goofed because it appears that I should have used the 8 TB drive to replace the 2 TB drive. The 8 TB drive is now mounted and available in the array. What is the best procedure to get the data off of the 2 TB drive and over to the new 8 TB drive? I will also need to remove the 2 TB drive from the array without replacing it with a new drive. I look forward to your help! Thanks.
  10. What is a noob to do? I have two highly active members of these forums directing me in two different directions! I appreciate all of the help and feedback guys.
  11. Correct me if I am wrong. If I do as you stated above and do a new config....then if a drive fails when parity is being built on the 8TB drive then I lost all of that data on the failed drive since I do not have a parity disk that is complete, correct? Wouldn't I be better off copying the data from the failing 3TB drive to my DVR drive that is unassigned and then proceeding with the parity swap instructions? That way if I suffered a failed hard drive during the parity swap, I would have an opportunity to put the failing 3TB disk back in and attempt to rebuild the failed disk using the original parity drive. Is my logic right?
  12. I have attached my disk diagnostics here in case anyone wants to look at them and see if there are any other concerns before doing the parity swap. sim-unraid-01-diagnostics-20170420-1512.zip
  13. Thanks for all of the help guys. I did read those instructions earlier but it was late last night and I did not realize that the steps were describing exactly what I was looking to do. I will tackle this when I get home from work this evening. Thanks again!
  14. Sorry for all of the questions...I am just trying to wrap my head around this. You are stating that I will need to disable the 3TB Seagate data drive before swapping out my current 5TB Toshiba parity drive with my new 8TB WD Red parity drive....is that correct? To perform the parity sway, I pull the existing parity drive from the array, put it on the shelf, and replace it with a new empty drive. If that is the case, then don't all of the data disks need to be present in the array in order to rebuild the parity on the new drive?
  15. Turl, If I opt to do the parity swap and the Seagate 3TB drive dies while the parity is rebuilding then will I lose any data? The error count on this drive has increased over my last two parity checks that I do once per month. I do not have a backup of the data on my unraid server as I am currently around 30 TB. Most of the data consists of movies, music, television shows and podcasts. I could get the information back but it would be a huge pain in the butt to do so; therefore, I want to minimize any potential loss of data as much as possible. All of my documents, pictures and other data that I can not afford to lose is on another server running two disks which are mirrored. That information is also backed up online to Crashplan.
  16. I can stop adding / removing data until this is resolved. Just for clarification, using your first option, you are stating to leave the failing drive as part of the array and simply swap the parity drive for the 8TB drive. Then rebuild the parity, with the 3TB failing hard drive still part of the array. If the 3TB drive fails during the parity rebuild then I can stop the parity rebuild and put the original 5TB parity drive back in. Is this correct? If this is correct, then should I copy the data from the failed drive to another location first or is it not necessary?
  17. Here is my situation. The SMART status on my unraid dashboard recently showed one of my drives with an orange exclamation point. Upon clicking on the disk attributes for that particular hard drive, it states that the Last SMART test was completed without error. However, the attributes show a Relocated Sector count of 8280 and Reported Uncorrect of 22. This is a Seagate 3TB drive, which are notorious for failing, that has been in service for over 4 years. I recently purchased an 8TB WD Red drive that is just about to complete one preclear pass. This will be the largest drive in my server so it will need to replace my 5TB Toshiba parity drive. I also have a new 3TB WD Red drive sitting on the shelf that will be used in my DVR. I was thinking of doing the following: 1. Put the 3TB WD Red drive into my unraid server and simply copy the data off of the Seagate 3TB drive to the new WD Red. I understand that this data will be at risk because it only resides on this one drive which is not part of the array. 2. Add the 8TB WD drive to the array and make it the parity drive; thus decommissioning the Toshiba 5TB drive as the parity drive. I will have to read how to do this as it has been along time since I have had to replace / swap drives. 3. Add the 5TB Toshiba drive as a data disk to the array. 4. Copy the data off of the 3TB WD Red drive over to the 5TB Toshiba drive. 5. Remove the 3TB WD Red from the unraid server to be used in my DVR. Do these steps sound like the best approach without putting my array at risk? Chris
  18. I have an IBM M1015 flahed to an LSI 9211-8i in IT mode for sale. The card does not include a mounting bracket. Asking $120. PM me if you are interested. Thanks, Chris
  19. I found the P15 files here (http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/topic/29059-sas2008-lsi92409211-firmware-files/) and was able to successfully flash my m1015. However, I now noticed that P19 is the current version. How do I go about updating the firmware and bios to the latest P19 version? Sorry for the noob question but I have been searching high and low for this info with no luck. Thanks! Chris
