I'm using Adair's homebridge docker and it seems to only work only once until I restart it.
I've got mine loaded with Nest and Chamberlain MyQ. If I issue a command to Siri to close the garage door, it will close. But if I try another command, like change the temperature to 75 degrees, Siri doesn't get a response and therefore doesn't carry out the command.
It will work after restarting the homebridge docker, but only one command works and then I have to restart it again. Shame as this could be very nifty!
Any ideas?

If you'll have a GPU anytime soon, you could skip getting the Xeon with onboard graphics.
I'm currently upgrading my Q25B setup from an i5-4430 / Asus H87i-Plus / 2x8GB DDR3. I have the Asrock C236 WSI / Xeon E3-1230 v5 / 2x16GB DDR4 (non-ECC) on order!

Without a GPU for unRAID you'll have no way to see the console. I suppose it should work headless with all config through the webgui, but how would you edit the BIOS etc?
With a nVidia GPU you could edit the BIOS and then pass it thru when unRAID boots.
Good, BIOS is all I need. I never use the console; well, maybe back in unRAID 4.x.
Clearly if you install a dedicated graphics card you don't need on-chip graphics. That card will, of course, use the only expansion slot on that AsRock board (or any other mini-ITX board). If you need it to pass-through to a VM, then indeed it's okay to not bother with on-chip graphics; but if you don't need a graphics card for pass-through, then on-chip graphics keeps the expansion slot free and eliminates the need to buy a graphics card.
Thank you for the clarification! That is exactly what I was hoping.
Not to mention keeps power use to a minimum with integrated graphics.
True ... and many of us who build mini-ITX servers are very focused on keeping our power consumption as low as possible. For example, my Q25B system idles under 20w
My Q25B system doubles as a gaming rig. It's quite the potent machine! 16TB (usable) of spinning rust and a GTX 1070 shoved inside.
Just trying to find the optimal CPU upgrade path from my current i5-4430/Asus H87I/16GB RAM to a C236 WSI/32GB RAM

I like this one for a current spec system: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813599009
Agree ... that's a VERY nice board for a mini-ITX system. With 8 SATA ports, you're very unlikely to require an add-in controller card, and it's a server-grade board so you get ECC and Xeon support as well.
The only thing "missing" that'd be nice-to-have is IPMI, but that's not really a big deal -- but DO be sure you buy a Xeon with integrated graphics if using this board.
Why do you recommend the CPU with graphics with the C236 board? Is integrated required if an nvidia card is installed (and passed through to a VM)?

Q25 builds rock!

I would love to test this out in a dockerized environment. Unless there is something else out there that is similar and already exists in a docker!
Mopidy is an extensible music server that plays music from local disk, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play Music, and more. You edit the playlist from any phone, tablet, or computer using a range of MPD and web clients. http://www.mopidy.com

On sale again. $99 this time. $94 with promo code.

Doesn't look like it's possible to convert DVI to VGA with that monitor.
-
What monitor is it exactly? Maybe the VGA cable or adapter is bad.
Can you test another device using the VGA cable/adapter? Like a laptop or something.

Hi!
I'm stopping by just to say that I've made it, the game vm is working correctly now!
I configured a new vm, with i440fx specs (instead of q35 that I've used, as it almost corrected the sound stutter problem) and now the MSI tweak did work! I'me using the meogo software (streaming tv online) and now the application works flawlessly. No hiccups, no breaks, everything alright!
Final thoughts / to-do:
- I still considerar that a 4-core cpu is a "bit short" for an unraid system, if you intend to config 2 vm's to work/game; used a skylake setup, as it is the cpu with better ipc and consumption;
- 16gb ram is the bare minimum; 24gb at least (for tri-channel) ou 32gb (for dual/quad channel) for optimum performance;
- 6 sata ports is the normal setup for most motherboards, but if you have (like me) 2x ssd's, 3x hdd's and 1 optical, you have 6 drives; try to use a motherboard with 8 ports, or use an add-in raidcard;
- going to switch my chassis: now I'm using a zalman z3 plus but gonna put the hardware on a hummer tx, as this zalman is too tight, the hardware can't breathe (as seen in the photo in the first post).
Bye!
Oh yes, i440fx a definite must! I missed that minor spec in your original post!

Yes, try the MSI interrupts fix for your PCI devices. It has worked for me in the past.

Lian-Li has announced a slightly larger Q25 case called the M25... looks interesting!
Things have changed since I built my Q25, and with all of the potential of V6 I can't help but think this M25 is the new best case for a small tidy Unraid build. I could be wrong but it certainly is in the ballpark.
At the very least I don't want to go forward with just 1 PCI slot, and this M25 case is just 1 1/2" taller and 3" deeper than the Q25. I love my Q25 build but I want more expansion than the Q25 case allows for when I buy new parts.
I feel like a traitor but I think it is best to move to a mATX board.
I've been in the same boat recently. The want for 32gb RAM and an extra PCIe slot for a quad gigabit NIC is enticing!

Racing simulators love CPU. I wouldn't attach any less than 4vCPU
Very nice AIO machine!

...
Ok, the complicated part. I don't transcode or have VMs or use any major add ons, nor do I expect to in the next 2 years. I am inclined to go with the same sort of Motherboard/CPU/Mem, (non-server grade), in modern options, but I would like to use the right parts that will allow me to fiddle with VMs if I have some free time. Does that make sense?
I'd be far more inclined to use server-grade hardware ... for a fault-tolerant server I want fault-tolerant memory! If I was building a new mini-ITX system today, I'd use this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813599009
... with a Xeon and a pair of 16GB ECC memory modules.
That would be VERY future-proof, and would give you plenty of memory to "fiddle" with VM's. [A pair of 8GB modules would give you enough to "fiddle" if you don't want to spring for 32GB]
+1. I'd pair it with a hyper threaded E3-1230 v5. Really need that 32gb RAM and dual ethernet! I just don't have $600 to chuck about for the mobo/cpu/ram.
-
Also, I've found that steam in-home streaming is limited to 60fps, so SLI would definitely be overkill for that.

I received response from an Atlona vendor about their AT-UHD-EX-70-2PS in response to my question: "Does this support 2560x1440 resolution? I know it goes UP to 4K, but will it display a resolution between 1080p and 4k?"
I contacted Atlona technical support and they confirmed that it will support the resolution listed below as well as several other resolutions between 1080P and 4K, if you need anything else please let me know.Downside is the damn thing costs $309. That's almost as much as my video card itself!
After measurements, all I'm needing is between 15-20ft. I don't think any HDMI, DVI, or DisplayPort cable alone supports that distance to maintain a 1440p resolution.
-
This sounds like a freakin' awesome endeavor!!
I'd love to do similar, except with my single GTX 1070 unRAID setup that resides in a closet.
Any ideas on resolution limitations? Everything I see is 1080p maximum. I prefer to game over 1440p.
-
Currently 16GB but wish I could upgrade to 32GB on a Haswell Mini-ITX.
Guessing I will need to look in to Skylake mobo+cpu upgrade in the future to get 32GB of RAM on an ITX board. Would also like dual ethernet.

Looks like a very nice upgrade!
I'd go for the GTX 1070 over the 970, if you can wait a little for stock to appear in stores.
-
GTX 1070 is installed!
Corsair SF450 power supply is on the way.

If you run into power issues you'll be happy to know that Silverstone has been busy making higher power SFX psu's. I believe they have up to 600w in that form factor now.
I currently have the cheap Corsair CX430. Currently only using 47w at idle. Around 65w when booting my Win10 VM. And finally 135w when gaming using the 750Ti. I hope it will work fine. Hopefully the 1070 gets adequate cooling. Will have to watch that closely in the Q25B.
Edit: went ahead and ordered a Corsair SF450 80plus Gold. Reviews are exceptional (topping silverstone!) and I finally will have a SFX power supply so you guys can't give me any more grief!

lightberry
in Lounge
I have a Lightberry kit on my TV as well. Was working great with my Raspberry Pi 2 + OpenELEC install.
After moving to the ShieldTV, unfortunately I CANNOT find a HDMI splitter that retains HDMI-CEC functionality. I was also told by Lightberry that such a device does not exist.
Now I'm trying to sell it since lack of CEC support renders my ShieldTV useless for WAF (wife acceptance factor). Basically I need to be able to control the ShieldTV with the television remote.
