  1. I am not running that ryzen cpu, but i would have no hesitation buying the amazon products you linked - but my only input would be opting for a mainboard with more pci express slots. I have 2 x16 slots and 3x1 (from memory) and I do not have much space left. I'm Running an lsi hba, two small pci express sata controllers, a dual port nic, and a gtx1650 - actually writing that i think i must have 3 x16 slots... Interesting post though as i was looking at replacing my 7700k with a ryzen, but i might go xeon after reading this
  2. I had reds back to 2tb - touch wood I have to say i am really happy with them. Although I took not of the advice on here all those years ago and bought drives at different times to try and avoid getting more than one drive from a given WD production batch. It could be you got unlucky. Prior to that i bought 3 samsung F1 750gb drives at once and they all went wrong at the same time roughly I started with Reds, then went to wed pros from 8tb, and just bought an ultrastar 12tb (basically a pro) - they have all been extremely reliable to date. I have had trouble with cheap sata controllers and cables - since i moved to a lsi controller and hot swap enclosures I have had a really good run. Doesn't really answer any of your questions - but I thought i'd share my experience with the reds.
  3. Thanks! Probably my dockers then I guess, ill have a dig That command was perfect, many thanks!
  4. Wow that's a cool setup - do you mind me asking what brand of Ram you are running please? 4x8 or 2x16?
  5. Hi, I currently run two servers - A primary On an i7-7700k (Ex photoshop workstation) and a secondary on a ryzen 2200g (literally the cheapest thing i could find at short notice when my athlon mb died) The primary has a 24tb array with dual parity, it hosts plex and crashplan, and with that level of load has a pretty easy life The secondary has a 14tb array, it runs sickrage, couchpotato, headphones, and a windows VM that runs syncback every night to copy the mission critical shares from the primary So - the secondary has the bigger workload Both have been solid, the ryzen has had less love, and does more with less I am looking at transitioning the i7 to become the secondary - and creating a new prime with a Ryzen 2700x and Asrock mainboard - but here's the trick - the ryzen supports ecc ram if you get the right mainboard and memory combination - googling suggests that asrock provides the most support for this. So for that reason i'd vote for Ryzen. Unless you can afford a threadripper because dayum look at all those cores
  6. How did you go? The thing I have always loved about unraid is how tolerant it is of upgrades if you do decide you need more power.
  7. I never had the guts to put pfsense in unraid 🙂 glad it's worked out well, agree - it's a great bit of software, and it just keeps getting better.
  8. Sorry for the very late reply - i forgot to turn on notifications and stopped checking in after a week or so. My network gear (Unifi) does not support 10gbe DAC. I could buy a switch in that same family that does - but I have 2x1GB links in a LAG and have not come close to saturating it. Main interest is in mover into array, array parity checks, and plex responsiveness - theres quite a lag between musiccast (yamaha speakers) calling a flac file which is in the array from plex (hosted in docker on the same server). For the timebeing i have started upgrading replacement drives from WD Red to WD Red Pro's, and I was considering moving to a ryzen system with ecc memory. Many thanks for your responses
  9. Hi There, I have had the log fill up on both of my unraid servers and I wanted to clarify something please. I have this entry in GO # Enlarge the LOG partition (because Dynamix System Stats needs at least 186Mb, default LOG is 128Mb) mount -o remount,size=768m /var/log When I type mount in the terminal (Loving the terminal option in the Web Gui BTW) I get this: tmpfs on /var/log type tmpfs (rw,size=128m,mode=0755,size=768m) That does not look right to me? shouldn't there just be one size defined in what is returned? I intend to figure out why the logs are filling up, but I want to ensure I give it some extra headroom in the process. Many Thanks
  10. Hi, I've been a user since version 3 or 4, a convert from windows home server. I currently have an i7 with 16gb ram sitting in an asus z170. 9207-8i controller running 6 x WD Red 6tb data drives Twin SSD's on the MB Controller as btrfs cache Twin WD Red 6tb Parity drives on the MB controller - average parity check speed is 109mb/s Intel i350-T2 NIC all sitting in a 4u rackmount with hot swap bays etc I am really happy with this, it's been rock solid. But my question is, if I was going to upgrade it to get better raw transfer performance - would the next level be enterprise class drives? WD Gold's? Or would I need to goto full enterprise level sas drives and better controllers? This is just for my planning, I started out with an old celeron with Samsung F1 750gb's and have been slowly upgrading as parts died - I am really impressed with how well unraid handles motherboard changes etc thanks for taking the time to read.
  11. I had same problem - doing this mentioned above by some other helpful person fixes it: Go to your Headphones appdata folder and edit config.ini and change http_host to the below. http_host = 0.0.0.0
  12. This is what I bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0085FT2JC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I used a freight forwarding company to get it from the US to NZ.... it's like 4 times the price to buy in new zealand... you aussies think you have it hard!!! I'd buy stuff from aussie but the shipping costs are an absolute joke... can't win!
  13. I ended up blasting the config and rebuilding the array, all went ok. However I find the Unraid is super sensitive to read errors, I pulled a hot swap drive out (the one that had previously red balled - and the resulting 47 read errors made it disable the disk (parity 2) - only way i could get it back in was to down the array, remove parity 2, up the array, down the array, add parity 2, up the array and rebuild parity.
  14. Hi There, I had a drive drop off a couple of days ago, sucessfully rebuilt. all seemed ok. Now I have had two more dries drop off, thankfully i have dual parity, so i am okayish.... but its got me stumped... the drives both have good smart tests, and seem available, but don't get added to the array, syslog has a bunch of errors i do not understand, hoping you good people can help me. I have changed sata cables and even swapped cables from a spare drive that was not in the array... it seems really weird. I have started a rebuild on the array with the spare good drive, but i would bet good money that the two red ball drives are fine. I have also swapped out the sata controller with a spare... any advice/can you decode my syslog please? solar-diagnostics-20180128-0041.zip
  15. Hi there, loving this docker, but im getting a weird behaviour, in some post processing it seems to get into a loop where it just processes the same thing over and over again - i found 248 copies of the same thing (albulm title), (albulmtitle)(1), (albulm title)(2) etc etc heres an excert of the logs. i have added [deleted] instead of artist name etc so as to not divulge too much into what headphones actually does :-) any thoughts on this please? it only does it on some files 2018-01-25 09:58:08 ERROR Error trying to change permissions on folder: /music/[deleted]. [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/music/[deleted]' 2018-01-25 09:58:08 WARNING Error moving file 24 [deleted]-未来- [1996] - [deleted] Ifill.flac: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/music/[deleted]/[deleted]-\xe6\x9c\xaa\xe6\x9d\xa5- [1996][1]/24 [deleted]-\xe6\x9c\xaa\xe6\x9d\xa5- [1996] - [deleted]Ifill.flac'
  16. I bought one of these in the end, and it worked straight out of the box, no issues
  17. How did you go with this please?
  18. Did anyone else get an access denied error putting system.properties in the video folder for unifi-video?
  19. Scroll about half way down this page: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware_Compatibility I have two of the addonics cards suggested and have had some corruption that while i cannot prove it was the controller cards they are a big suspect in my mind. If I had to do it all again I would have spent more on a controller card, picking from the list in the url above but not going for the cheapest one on the list. just sharing my experience. Oh and always have an offsite backup of your important stuff... it saved me in the above scenario. cheers
  20. Yeah good point, sorry! Please find attached. I have replaced the 2tb data disk with the brand new 3tb wd red. And put the original 3tb parity back in as parity, rebuild underway. Thankfully i have offsites off all the important stuff... PS> Onboard ethernet now disabled as siggested above which is why it's on eth0 now. And it's now using static ip as suggested. solar-diagnostics-20160417-0048.zip
  21. Well, it's been quite a day. Woke up to the wife telling me the server was acting strangely. Bunch of stuff missing, i checked the web gui and I had lost parity drive and disk 1, wdred 3tb on parity and wdred 2tb on disk 1. A reboot brought disk 1 back, but the parity drive was still toast. I went and got another drive and started the rebuild, due to the fact that the two drives were in question above were both on the same addonics card I moved the new parity drive to the onboard controller and kicked off a rebuild. It ran for 6 or so hours and then things went really screwy. I lost disk 1 again and got a heap of read errors on the other 2 drives on the other controller card (another addonics). I pulled the controller cards out and put everything on the onboard disk. Disk 1 is now unmountable, fs check returns a faulty disk message and recommends replacement, a short smart test says everything is hunky dory. My theory is that the addonics cards are junk, and have corrupted the file system on the disk. I am running an extended smart test but may end up putting disk 1 back into service. I will adress all the points made above but I am wondering if these addonics cards have been causing issues all along...
  22. Ugh, Sorry, yeah i didn't really provide much info there. At present she is editing files on the server, Photoshop and lightroom. She was editing today and I noticed the CPU utilization creeping up to 75% at times, which is interesting as i would have hoped cpu load would be low with the addonics card's hopefully doing most of the work. So, in answer to your question, creating and modifying files ranging from 10MB to 90MB in size, batch jobs at times too, so heaps of operations editing files where the server is presumably moving a file from the storage pool to the cache pool and writing changes. The client machine is windows 10 Skylake with an intel NIC, would like to goto dual nics at both ends as a next step as im able to hit 125MB/s pretty easily when doing copys. Hope I have provided a bit more info this time, thanks for your patience. PS. the reason she is editing on the server is she cannot be trusted to copy stuff to the server if she edit's on the local desktop.
  23. Thanks for the spending time here: Yes I am rather perplexed too, although it's worth mentioning it happens much less on V6 with the old machine, it's almost a rare occurence but always seems to happen when my wife is working on it and so the impact (and the moaning) is quite high. I am wondering if another network device could be causing some sort of storm, but I have not got the technical mastry to easily track this down, I am slowly working through excluding particular things from the network to see if it comes right, but it's so intermittent it's hard to do focused troubleshooting. Good spotting, Reason for this is that I have disabled anything in the bios that was not needed. The marvel 9230's are the two addonics cards I believe, and I am starting to worry about them. They are only 4 port cards... so it's pretty weird, this is a card recomended on the hardware compatibility list, but maybe it's starting to show issues, I am open to ditching them if it's looking like they are causing a headache. I've got an onboard Intel and an Intel Add In Card. I forgot to disable the onboard in the bios. It sounds like I have stuff up something in bridging, i had a bridge configured to support VM's It repeats to the end of the syslog, several hundred KB of them. They may be harmless, but a nuisance. I believe that if you change to a static IP, the same 192.168.1.85 that you are already getting, then you would remove all of that from the syslog. Will it fix other problems? I doubt it, but who knows. Good call, i have set it to static now, Thanks. I'll have a look but as my wife is moving a heap of files with practically identical names (uploading compact flash card contents after a shoot) I think it's ok, but i will check the mover after her next shoot and report back. One thing I did notice is my weird mix of 80gb and 240gb cache has most of the 240gb drive wasted and my wife is filling up the cache, so i'll look to add another 240 to bring the cache pool capacity to 280gb, although the 80gb is only sata 2... which could be slowly up the works?
