  1. Understood, thanks I'll try it when I get home!
  2. So If I create a second "Media" folder on disk 2 unRAID is smart enough to know to just add it to the "Media" share on disk 1 so long as the original share is setup to span both disks? Is that correct?
  3. Make each folder that you want to stay only on disk 2 its own share which includes only disk 2, instead of making them subfolders of shares that also include other disks. Isn't the better way to do this setting the split level as 0, then manually creating the share folder on the disks you want it to stay on or split on? Thanks, that's exactly what I'm trying to do but I don't know how to get the shared folder to span two drives so all the media shows up in the one "Media" share. Will my minimum free space idea above fix that?
  4. Make each folder that you want to stay only on disk 2 its own share which includes only disk 2, instead of making them subfolders of shares that also include other disks. I want Photos, Music, TV shows (and the Family genre under Movies) to all show up in Media though. I don't want two separate media folders that I need to browse to for media content. If I temporarily set the minimum free space to something larger than what's available on disk 1, will unRAID create the appropriate shared folder on disk 2?
  5. Glad you got your questions answered. For others that stumble on to this thread, unRAID will automatically create the folders on the drives in the system once high-water kicks in and tells it to. You do not have to proactively create those folders. What if you don't want to wait for unRAID to create them? I've got mine set to "manual" and was hoping to setup as follows: I want those folders all on disk 2 as that's the "important" content I'd like to back up and it should help divide the data fairly evenly between disks. It also means that only disk 2 needs to spin up for backup. So how do I do that...?
  6. Thanks. Yeah that's the default. Didn't work the first night I tried it...then started working when I tried it again. Has been working fine since...lol
  7. Funniest thing...last night I checked all the settings (which were already where they should be) and simply tried it again. Worked fine...lol
  8. Will do, thanks Trurl I'm starting to feel like I owe you a beer
  9. I also wonder if it has anything to do with this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=8033.0 I also don't see the unRAID server under my Windows "NetworK" (I've been accessing it via "\\tower...") I'll have to check that the unRAID is set up for WORKGROUP (all caps) to maybe fix my WDTV issue and look in to this Windows Live ID thing to fix my showing up under "NetworK" issue.
  10. As per the OP, I tried that already. Thanks, I'll try that when I get home...
  11. I've got the bones of my unRAID server up and running and before I yank the last drive out of my old server I'm trying to connect my WDTV to make sure it's working smoothly for my wife and kids. I've "found" the unRAID server on the WDTVLive but it's asking for a user name and password. I've tried "root" and the password I have setup on the server. I even tried creating a user "wdtvlive" user with it's own password on the server and neither can connect. Any ideas on what I'm supposed to enter for a username and password?
  12. Well as I said, I've already run one (though I think that hardly qualifies me as an expert). I guess I'll have a look at the readme when I get home and see how it differs.
  13. I've just run a (old/slow) preclear on one 2TB drive (I can check when I get home but it took about 25 hours). I have to format it and copy data off an identical drive from my old server at which point I'll be pre-clearing and installing the second drive in my new unRAID server. I'd love to do a comparison of the two preclears! Then I also have to run a triple preclear on a new HTGS Nas 4TB drive when it arrives from Newegg (to be my parity drive) so I'd love to get those 3 runs done faster as well. I'm a complete neophyte at unRAID, so I'd appreciate some clear instructions (a "Faster preclear for dummies"). Running V6-64bit. Thanks!
  14. Thanks! Sounds like it does the exact same thing at roughly 1.5X the speed. Yes please! I don't seem to see any instructions though, do I just PM BJP?
  15. This is awesome FWY, I'm totally going to use this once I get my preclears run! That said, if you're willing and able to do a vid too, that's even better!
  16. Awesome! Going to need that once I FINALLY get through my preclears!
  17. Just ordered a HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB drive for $179 at Newegg.ca. Good price for anyone (Canadian) interested. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145912 promo code CEMCAKKX25, ends 1/25
  18. Thanks again, it running a preclear on one of my existing drives...sure isn't a fast process!
  19. Thanks, I guess I'll stop it now...lol
  20. Tried to plug in my third (1. year old but until then unused) 2TB WD Red and it fizzled and poofed smoke at me... Looks like a warranty return...lol
  21. So I've got unRAID running off my thumb drive and was able to log in via my W8 PC to the GUI. I notice under Main/Health there's a "Run disk self test" option (with "SMART extended self-test"). Is that the same as a pre-clear or should I still be following these instructions?: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2817.0
  22. Is anybody using a "docker" version of CrashPlan in unRAID 6? Does it still have the GUI/headless issues?
  23. You can't just run CrashPlan from unRAID? That doesn't seem right.... I wish there was some exampled (video, web tutorial etc) showing what CP looks like/how it works on UR...*sigh*
  24. Can you tell me why that's a better solution than going with CrashPlan Turl?
  25. I started a thread (here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=37621.0 ) on the new(b) build I'm in the middle of and was asking what the best solution is for backups (keeping in mind I'm entirely new to both unRAID and Linux). I assumed CrashPlan but have been getting some conflicting answers in that thread. Basically I want the ability to backup critical files from my unRAID server to an external USB 3.0 enclosure attached to the unRAID server and do incremental backups from there. -First, can CrashPlan on unRAID do this? -Second, is it the best solution or is there something better? Thanks.
