Sorry I know this has spanned a couple of pages... That is the temps at idle.... and the HDDs spun up. Fan 1-2 = CPU Fan 3 = Front of case 3 - 120mm noctua fans Fan 4 = Middle of case 3 - 120mm noctua fans Fan 5-6 = Back 2 - 80mm noctua fans. There is a picture of the case and setup on page one.

The smaller ATOM setup that I have is sitting in the 2u case running Esxi v6.5 With 2tb wd black, 4tb wd black, 120gb Samsung ssd, 960gb WD blue ssd the 4U case with. Using 2 - WD re 4tb for parity and 13 - WD Reds 4tb for storage and a 960 pny ssd for VMs. I used Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound for the CPUs. Same stuff I have used on countless of systems and no issues. Side note. With the HDDs spun up and the system idle it runs about 198w - 220w... (Not too bad..) the cpu only has a tdp of 60w

So I did have that issue at first. However I had adjusted the lower limit of the ipmi to match the fans so no more surging like is mentioned in that post.

It was the recommended cooler from supermicro for that mobo/cpu setup. Hopefully @garycase will pop-in and help out.

Well I got an CORSAIR Commander PRO, CL-9011110-WW. Basically an external fan controller. I am going to set some custom fan curves with temps and see if that helps. I just think the MoBo fan curve is just not there. I should be able to spin up the 120mm fans up to 1000 RPMs without making more noise and increase airflow. Unless you think I am missing something?

How does that help? How did you do that?

@uldise The fans are the same direction as the front ones. All fans (except the one sitting on the raid cards) is moving from front to back.

shoutout to @garycase on this issue. So IMG_20170529_134515.jpg is the setup. The bottom case is a rosewill RSV-L4500 fully populated with 15 hard drives. I have 6 of the Noctua NF-F12 PWM in the front and middle and 2 Noctua NF-A8 PWM on the back. I had put a 120mm fan that came with the case on top of the raid cards. the 2u server that is on top. it only has 3 - Noctua NF-A8 PWM and its staying cool. Why is the case running at such high temperatures? What can I do to fix this issue? 4U case - at idle. 75-76F ambient temperature 2u case

Well spin up an ubuntu vm. Also you might be able to do it with a "live" ubuntu version via usb stick

I have to say I have gotten a few servers from them as well. The only issue I have is they are a weebit slow to ship. They say its build time. But just my 2 cents. Great customer service though.

Here is something interesting I just found out. I had started the array in unraid and all fans went to 100% and all its doing in a parity check. cpu load is at 2%-3%...

I've been having issues with this server since I started this server move. First it was with the CPUs and motherboard. Come to find out that is was a bent CPU pin. Then I had the Noctua 3pin - 120mm fans and the motherboard caused them to run at 100% at all times. Then with the 4-pin Noctua fans it was surging kinda like this but the adjustment to the fan speeds fixed that. (see top of post). And then now this.. One thing after another on this server move... The only other thing I am thinking about doing is putting the low noise adapters on. But that will hurt it when the server is under load.

There is about a foot of space behind the server

I can only do front to rear with this case... Well I mean I can do rear to font but that defeats the purpose of a server case..

I'm using DACs but so far the only issue is its kinda noisy for my liking considering me trying to use the Noctua fans on everything. When looking at the hdd temps they are nice and cool....

Well when i was testing the server and setting it all up. With the lid off the server it hovered about 25c. The ambient temp in the room stays generally around 24c-25c. With an overhead ceiling fan. Here is the temps for the smaller 2u server. I have 3-80mm Noctua NF-A8 PWM and then I have a 60mm Noctua 60x25mm PWM sitting on top of the cpu. The motherboard is a SuperMicro MBD-A1SRi-2758F-O I don't have any surging from the 2u server. The top switch is a Ubiquiti Unifi us-16-xg (10GB switch) and the bottom switch is a Ubiquiti Unifi us-24.

I really don't want to pull that beast back out again. In the picture the server is turned off.

Sorry. The question is how to do it? I remember last time I had to do it all over command and i could rename it br1 or something like that.

I am using the Noctua NF-F12 PWM 4pin fans. I am using a 3 to 1 fan splitter. The fans at max barely draw that many amps and the motherboard can handle the amps per fan header. When the fans are at "normal" speed the whole thing is silent. As far as many fans. The idea was to move a lot of air quietly to keep it cool.

well that fixed that but im still getting a pulsing from the fans and its not even that hot... Logs is empty and everything on the web portion is showing green
