should the disk (sdl) show up in mnt/disks/?
Right now I've precleared the disk (again) and it seems to be mounted but nothing shows under mnt/disks/
-
I have not - I'll give that a try. Thanks
-
yeah I've done that.

I'm trying to install the bitcoin core app and it recommends not using a disk on the array. I've got a disk installed (SDL) but I have no idea how to select it. Just curious if anyone has any suggestions, I realize this isn't unraid specific.
Thanks

Thanks for that clarification.

Ok, so it seems like I need to make every share a minimum of secure.
-
I'm trying to set up a user that will have read only permissions. For some reason the only options available are R/W and I can not figure out how to change that.
The share is public - maybe that's why.
I see a private share with read only access.
Any tips would be great. Thanks

The disk I want to use is DEV_2 but this is not showing up. How can I select a disk outside of the array?

I have a stack of 24 ssd that were part of a linux array that I'm pre-clearing.
I figure this would be a good time to switch from the preclear plugin to UD w/UD prelear to test out.
Uninstalled precleared, installed UD and put in SSD and it show "There are no disks that can be precleared."
So normal preclear plugin normally would work fine as it doesn't care what was on the disk before.
UD Preclear wont touch it because it sees it was part of a raid and has existing filesystem as you noted above.
So installed UD+, and nuke partition on the disk and now I see I can preclear it.
So had to install UD, UD Preclear, UD+ to be able to preclear a drive.
Can we make it so the user doesn't need to install UD+ to nuke the drive partition in order to preclear a drive?
Holy crap, thanks for that. I would not have figured out the magic spell otherwise.

Sorry in advance. How the heck do I install this? I don't see a link or download option anywhere I've looked.

For sure, I just wanted to make sure Shares were the best way to proceed. My NAS uses pools for essentially the same thing as unraid uses shares.
Update is essentially complete. I just have to go down the high water, most free, fill up rabbit hole again. -
I've got one cache drive in XFX and has about 1.08 GB used. Disk 1 is in BTRFS and using 3.7MB and the other disks are in XFS using 27.9GB. I'm just surprised by that.
I currently have no shares set up and no pools other than the cache drive.
I've redone this box in an effort to set it up more effectively. Are you saying if I wanted a directory that stored large amounts of data it's better to set it up as a pool or a share?
-
I'm somewhat perplexed here. I've formatted all disks and cache into XFS and noticed the default used space for that format is 27.9GB whereas the BTRFS is 3.70MB?! That's a pretty massive difference.
-
by pools, do you mean shares? I've got a few shares using multiple disks.
-
i dont know enough about the different formats to be honest.
-
I backed up my entire box and now I'd like to reformat all disks. Ideally I was thinking about preclearing them again just to stress test them. What format is ideal at this point?
-
I removed the "-" and it seems that did the trick - thanks for that advice!

I've been an unraid user for the past 7-8 years and it's typically run quite well. I've updated my old core2duo machine to the following:
i3-10100 cpu
Gigabyte z590 ud ac motherboard
32gb ram
Same Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 x2
15 SATA bays
Now, I'm having a massive issue configuring the motherboard to boot from the Unraid USB. I've tried legacy support but nothing is successful so far. Do I need to focus on anything regarding the Unraid USB drive or is it all motherboard BIOS specific?

The funny thing is disk 4 has about 9gb used of 4tb. It's almost never even used. I can move the machine to a different location - been meaning to do that anyway since it's so loud.
Disk 1 is used almost daily:
Lifetime Min/Max Temperature: 4/50 Celsius
50c is quite high, I'll deal with moving the machine and see what happens.

Parity reached 63C in this latest cycle (and 71C in the past), that's way too hot.
Right but... I don't think it did. It's 25c in the room with the unraid machine. It's happened a few different times. I just fail to see how it can get that hot.
Disk 4 is the other one that gets toasty... seems clear that's a false positive.
-
parity threw the error as well as... another one. I forget which.
So if this is a false positive, do I ignore or do I replace the disk?

Here's the diagnostics file.

I'm running Version: 6.8.3 and for the past 5 or so years everything has been running smoothly. I've noticed recently that I've had disks that are displaying red notices saying its overheating. I cleaned out the dust in the box and all 3 bays still have working fans. I'm starting to think it's a false positive. It's about 25c in my office and the disk says it's hitting 76c. Curious to hear any tips or suggestions on how to handle this.
Thanks!

Can we get a poll on who uses what?
How to use a disk outside of the array?

Yeah - I missed that part. I deleted the preclear log, formatted, and now it's showing up. Thanks.
