@SimonF So, I tried all of the Network Models: No luck. It hangs at "A start job .... continues to boot. I then log in with my credentials but still have no assigned ip or network / internet access. I was hoping not to have re-create the VM from scratch but it looks like I may not have a choice.

I haven't gotten around to trying out Alma Linux but hope to do so over the weekend. So far, Win11 is really behaving well. Surprisingly well after the issues that I was experiencing.

Good day all. I converted several ESXi VM's using Starwind V2V Converter. The conversions themselves completed without a hitch. I chose to convert using the .qcow2 format. I used one of the converted Ubuntu server 22.04 VM's to create a new UR VM. It will boot into the VM just fine but gets stuck at the network line and then will complete the bootup process. This is a clear sign that I will not have an assigned IP hence no internet or network access. I use the same VM network setup as I always have: br0 / rtl8139 in my case. I have tried all network combinations to no avail. Note: the actual ESXi VM used a static IP at the time of its creation. Your time and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Peter

Installed Windows 11 using the official Microsoft ISO again. So far, the VM is behaving very well and is quite responsive.

I also D/L Windows 11 Lite. Will use that if all else fails. NOTE: You may receive a message that says: This PC can’t run Windows 11. You probably already know this but there is a Fix for that

What I find odd is that the load seems to be heavier when using the Windows 11 VM almost exclusively. I say this because I do not experience the same load when I have a Windows 10 X-Lite and a Windows Server 2019 running. By the way, the Windows Server 2019 VM was an ESXi VM that I converted to .qcow2 using Starwinds Converter. I have allocated 6 CPU's and 128GB of ram to that VM. Both VM's also reside on Disk 1 of my array. The attached screenshot shows my Server 2019 VM running with audio host apps launched. And, a parity check is running to boot as can be seen in the screenshot as well. I use it as a slave to host my audio sample libraries via Vienna Ensemble Pro and Native Instruments Kontakt.

I have one unassigned 2TB SATA drive. Would that help? I am using my Samsung EVO 1TB drive as my cache drive. It's the only SSD drive in my system. Unfortunately the HP Z820 that I am using doesn't support NVME natively. The only way around that would be to add an NVME PCIe adapter. I should mention that I also have a Windows 10 X-Lite VM (less all the bloatware) and it performs lightning fast. Thank you for your valuable input @JonathanM It means a lot.

Thank you for chiming in @JonathanM Much appreciated. Are you referring to the vDisk location. It appears to be on Disk 1 which is the 8TB SAS drive in my array. I am pretty new to UR so please forgive me.

Thank you for providing a link to your guide. I was wondering if this method is still valid / necessary in 2024 and more specifically in the latest iteration of UR

First off I want to thank you for reaching out @dopeytree Much appreciated. I followed the instructions in this post and that seems to have resolved my issue. I am hoping that my Plex media server uses the Nvidia GPU when providing content to my daughters when they access it for the occasional movie or TV show (wink wink) You were definitely pointing me in the right direction though. I just installed another fresh Windows 11 VM. The peformance is horrendous. It is the only VM at the time of this post. The CPU usage is through the roof.

I created a Windows 11 VM which is a fresh install. I have allocated 32GB of ram and CPU's 14+15 - HT 34+35. From the time I boot the VM and for the next few minutes the CPU's are basically pinned at 100%. Even if I remote into the VM it seems to take forever before I can even bring up the task bar. There is only one other VM running (Windows 10 on CPU's 2,3,4,5) It is running but there reallu is little to no activity at the moment. Is this normal and did I do somthing wrong? I am having the same issue with my single Nvidia Quadro K5000 GPU when attaching it to my Windows 10 VM. The VM shows as started but inaccessible. VNC works fine of course

I have read and I have watched a bunch of YT videos on how to passthrough my single GPU but to no avail. I would really appreciate some assistance. Host: Unraid v6.12.10 Workstation: HP Z820 with a single GPU - NVIDIA Quadro K5000. I would like to use this GPU in my Windows 10 or 11 VM. If I select the card in the Graphics card dropdown and the GPU's audio my VM will startup but will not be accessible. I cannot ping the VM or remote desktop into it. Plex media service also appears offline as well. The NVIDIA card does show up in Tools / System Devices. I am not sure if I should select both the Nvidia's graphic and audio options. Or, if I should be bothering with these options at all. I did bind two USB controllers to two different VM's exclusively and they function marvelously well. However, unlike these USB controllers, when the NVIDIA K5000 GPU is bound to vfio it does not appear as a device that I can select / bind to a VM that I create or have created. I also downloaded the .rom file for this GPU from Techpowerup. I removed the lines above (UªyëK7400éLwÌVI) as was suggested in a few instructional videos that I watched. I then saved the file and saved it on my UR server. I edited the VM and selected the K5000 (video+audio) provided the path to the new .rom file that did not make a difference whatsoever. I should also mention that I tried without the .rom file and that did not help either. Your time and assistance will be greatly appreciated. Peter

Thank you @JorgeB Makes sense as the parity sync staus appeared permanently stuck at 69.1% for what seemed like an eternity. I eventually stopped the sync and powered down the PC. Obviously, the bad drive must go.

Other than the parity-sync in progress (69.1%) I have absolutely nothing else going on. Not a single VM created. No other background tasks. Is it normal that I see these CPU spikes. And, the CPU will randomly change. Could the Parity Sync be causing it. The sync status defintely doesn't look right. System: HP Z820 Dual core / 256GB Ram / 4x HGST 8TB SAS / SATA

I am seriously considering the switch over to UR. I have been using ESXi 6.x.x for a while now but frankly the version that I have a license for is getting a little long in the tooth. I have a few questions / concerns: 1) Is there a way that I can restore / import my existing VM's into UR. At the moment all the VM's have been exported (.mf / .ovf / .vmdk). 2) This would sure save me a considerable amount of time / work. Tool suggestion / Visual tutorials / Documentation 3) Some of the VM's are of the Windows variety. Is there anything special that I should know. 4) In ESXi I choose the number of CPU's I require at VM creation. UR requires that I do that via radio buttons. What happens if CPU selection overlaps. In other words what if several UR VM's end up using the same CPU number(s). Here is a short list of some of the VM's that I currently have created in ESXi. Please let me know if any of these will be problematic in UR: - Plex Media Server - Would like to toggle passthrough of my NVIDIA Quadro K5000 GPU - Microsoft Windows 2016 and 2019 - Microsoft Windows 7, 10 , and 11 - Prestashop - HestiaCP - NGINX Proxy Manager - Docker (no brainer as it appears to be built right into UR) - Nextcloud - Mailserver None of the above is mission critical as they are all being hosted / used in my Homelab. Your time and expertise will be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I am in the midst of finalizing my UR setup. My HP Z820 is comprised of 4x HGST 8TB drives and 1x Samsung SSD Evo 1TB Would it be feasible for me to use one of the 8TB as a parity drive and the 1TB SSD as the cache drive. Your thoughts and recommendations will be most welcome. Thank you

Is there a list that details what USB flash (thumb) drives are compatible with the Unraid USB Flash Creator. I ask because I just purchased a USB Sandisk 3.2Gen 64Gb flash device in the hopes of using it with UR but it appears as [incompatible]. Thank you.
