  1. I had some ancient cheftek case with 80mm fans in weird spots. I recently replaced it with a CM HAF 912. It has 6 bays with rails and 5 external bays allowing me to move my 5-in-3 cage to it. Drive temps are amazing now with all the airflow (21C to 27C) and cable management means less clutter and airflow restrictions. I have not used the 5-in-3 cage yet as the drives from that now all fit in the HAF bays. I may just replace that with a icydock vortex type bay as I'm finding the hot swap bays tend to have such limited airflow out the back.
  2. Think may have this one solved. It appears to be a APC UPS issue. Around the same time as my v5 -> v6 upgrade I swapped a new battery in. In some cases the APC will have a brain fart and get confused. Under windows the APC app would do a calibration, for apcupd a manual calibration is required. I just swapped it with another APC unit I had and it works fine now
  3. Has anyone seen odd issues with the built in one? I have not had issues with the v5 APC UPS driver - the v6 one seems to always display around 0.76 minutes to 2.25 minutes left. It is a APC UPS backup-pro 750, 27% load and on v5 42minute runtime. all other stats are as before. In one case unraid shutdown based on the UPS state. Right now I have the runtime setting set to 0 in hopes it disables that check.
  4. 1 big system with 50 PB, 1 big system with 90PB and a 150PB data warehouse system to mine the data from the first two. Add about 5 PB a year. All on HP SAN array's.... blows my mind what it costs to run these systems. Backblaze doesn't indicate if it has any form of redundancy.. 67TB raw used as is, or 67TB (-) RAID overhead? if the wind blows, will their cloud turn into a clear blue sky?
  5. tried to install it, but the script failed... something about cannot create /config.dat file (installed it to /boot/syncrify directory I created)
  6. I have AMD Sempron 140 underclocked and undervolted and a Hyper 212 Plus on top. I did not attach the cooler fan, but rely on 2 80mm exhaust and 1 80mm intake fan (all @ 5V in a very ancient tower case) and the cpu stays nice and cool (with unraid). if a do a parity check then the fins get a bit warm, but it stays pretty cool and one less source of noise.
  7. Raj is right, that particular board is a flake. I'm looking on Newegg.ca and it seems like there are plenty of choices. Here's just a few I found. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157226 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130237 I'm going to be setting up this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130293 I don't have that AOC-SASLP-MV8 so I can't test that. What are the cross boarder rules for ebay anyway? There are no rules per say. Some US retailers will ship across the border and most will not. If the shipper uses USPS then the purchaser may or may not get wacked with duty and taxes when the package is delivered (generally the higher the value the more likely). If the shipper uses UPS (*shudder*), then in addition to 100% duty and taxes, a rather large brokerage fee will be passed on. There are lots of in-country choices for motherboards, newegg.ca is a good choice for alternatives compared to pure Canadian companies with a more limited supply chain.
  8. For me, when I put my Asus AMD based board to S3 sleep, it consumes less then 1 watt. But when I send the magic packet to wake it up all my drives spin up. Power surge and a long delay just to browse a directory. I didn't like the spin up so I keep it active, with a under-clocked, passive cooled CPU and 2 hour drive spin-downs.
  9. I started off with a Acer H340 WHS.. had some issues and now I have a unRAID setup. I keep the WHS running all the time for backups and movies I plan to watch soon. I keep my unRAID as long term archive and monthly backups but have the drives spin down after 2 hours, the WHS typically gets usually everyday but the unRAID is maybe a few times a week. So I guess spin-down also depends on your usage pattern... if I had a daily spin up -- I would just keep them all spun up. I wonder if a group policy for spin down would be of benefit? spin down the least used ones and keep the frequently accessed ones up.
  10. check your motherboard specs. I have the ASUS M4A785-M and it takes DDR2 RAM not DDR3 the M4A785T-M supports DDR3. LE editions are usually very scaled down versions that you may find lacking key features for a few bucks less.
