Yeah I had someone else tell me that. The drive is only about 5 months old and already failing. I am glad the people on this forum are helpful and knowledgeable because I would be lost with troubleshooting. Problem is that I do not know if the drive is backed up. I tried a parity sync when I formatted my flash drive with v50beta8 but only got to 20% before server crashed. I have drives ready that I need to run preclear on but I do not want to lose data on failing drive.

Well I spoke too soon as my server just turned off. How would I get the syslog now before I reboot? Had the parity sync at about 20% after about 9 hours and now this.

I was not running any add ons, PSU is a Antec Neo Eco 620watt, and cabling looks fine. I have been having problems with crashes for a long time. When I saw one of my drives with a red ball I was thinking it was a bad drive. So I ran preclear on a new drive unsuccessfully because server would crash. I formatted my flash drive and now put 5.0beta 8 on it. I am now stuck on parity sync which will probably take days. The server has not crashed since the format of flash drive. Another crash today and still not able to access server on network. I can access it through telnet and browser though. I turned the server back on after crash and then went and created this syslog. 2011-8-4-syslog.txt

I can not access my server on my network and attached one of my syslogs. I was trying to preclear a new drive to replace one that I believe has failed and the server crashed on the last step of the preclear. I have been getting random crashes quite often and trying to narrow down the problem. I did a memtest and it came back with no errors. I installed 5.0 beta 10 today before in putting in the sata card and hot swap cage.

The Supermicro card does not need any drivers to work, unRAID will detect it just fine. As for the Norco cage, I assume you are talking about the NORCO SS-500 cage. If that is the case, then are you sure you got the correct breakout cables. You need the Forward breakout cable kind (like these). Yes that is the cable I ordered. I got the list from you a while back on the parts to order and put them in today. Man I have no luck with this stuff and I am trying my hardest to figure some of it out. I apologize but I have tried to search all over for my answer which is probably easy for everyone on here. I have an unraid that I am adding a norco hot swap and asupermicro sata card to. What needs to be done for the card and drives to be recognized? I put the sata card in the pcie slot and hooked up the power and breakout cable to the norco. I put a hdd in the norco and it lights up but the hdd does not show up. I am thinking that I need a driver or firmware but I do not understand linux that much. I do not know how to install drivers or firmware on linux and I do not have a cd rom. Sorry about the easy questions but I have been at this for hours today.

I seem to have problems recording multiple HD shows to my unraid server using Sagetv. The recordings will have stuttering, pixelationa and some audio issues. Wondering if adding a cache drive to my server would help this problem.

A couple random shut downs today and no sys log running. But I noticed after restarting server that my pc gets a blue screen of death. Wonder if there is something in my network causing this? I have a DLink DIR 655 router that is going to a 5 and 8 ports gigabit switch that goes to each room and server.

Ok so my server is at it again. I had 2 random shut downs today and one yesterday. Of course I was not running a syslog at the time. I now have the syslog running hoping to capture the problem. syslog.txt

OK I got the tail syslog running now. I want to apologize to anyone I offended because of my frustration. I really hope to get this resolved and greatly appreciate any help that I receive.

Wonder if I need to look into a cache drive. Thinking with all the writing to the server with my multiple live HD recordings and ripping movies to to the sever could be causing this crashing.

I am typing telnet and ip address. Here are the IP addresses in my router and I used them all.

Wife said her tv show recordings were pixelated. I saw the recordings tonight and they were horrible and unwatchable. I am using sagetv with hd homeruns recording to my unraid server. Wondering if the server is not fast enough to record multiple live tv shows which could be causing the server crashes. I was also ripping a blu ray to the server last night also.

The last few days my server has been shutting down on its own. I usually notice it when my Sagetv is trying to record shows to the server. Sometimes I am ripping movies and it will say that the server is not found. Any ideas what could be causing this?
