  1. I tried richcopy and failed to get it to work, I tried using the drive shortcut I had mapped, navigated directly to the share on network side, directly to disk8, also tried copying to a test folder made on disk8, kept getting system cannot find the path specified error. I couldnt figure out the problem.
  2. I've been running a DFI P45/ICH10R for about 1 1/2 months now up to 8x500GB no problems so far. Even made it through a complete power failure.
  3. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2468.0 PCIex4 adaptec 4 port for 88 to 120 I got mine from newegg, it also came with 4 REALLY nice blue sata cables, the nice flexable kind and there aleasy 24" long.
  4. I tested my istar 4x 3x5.25 hard drive cage, I went straight from the MB to the cage, and the drives showed up in all 4 slots, now I gotta install my adaptec card. And test all it's ports.
  5. On the istar 5x raid cage, depending on the tower your putting it into, it might not fit. My black pearl case has 1/8" ledges for drives to sit on top. Thats the reason I had to go with the 4x to 3x5.25 drive vs the 5 drive cage. The 4x drive cage has groove/slots in the sides to allow it to slide into the case w/o modifying. I'd double check to make sure it's going to fit.
  6. Did you do this to your system yet brainbone? I just got a gb switch in. I'm using 4.3.3 and my transfer rates were: 700MB write 100e-1 min 10 seconds, 1000e-30 seconds 700MB read 100e-1 min 10 seconds, 1000e- 18 seconds Trying to find out if this tweak still helps for 4.3.3
  7. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2432.0 thats the thread to what I had to do to get my MB to work I'm going with adapter 1430SA pciex4 4-port sata controller, other people on the message board have got them to work fine, also using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816701005 istarusa 4x hard drive cage for 3x5.25 bay slots. Then later on I will pickup another card and another hard cage and that will put me at 16 HD's with all drives running off the pcie bus, so parity check will be really quick. adapater cardx2=$200 hard cagex2=$200
  8. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816103058 not happy just purchased one last week for 120:(
  9. iStarUSA is anothering company that makes good HD cages, I had to go with a 4 HDD 3x5.25 Cage, the 5 HDD cages don't have chassis slots and I didnt feel like destorying my case to get it to fit. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816701005 $99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121913 $89 Both are 4HDD solutions for 3x5.25 bays. Decents reviews on newegg. I should be getting my 99 one hopefully in another week or so, and then I'll post how the ugprade turns out.
  10. Yeah I planned on using 2x Adaptec RAID 1430SA to expand to 16 HD, and adding PCI video graphics card. With that setup would hope to keep my parity check around 50 MB/sec.
  11. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2432.msg18942#msg18942 Here's a link to the newest P45 DFI motherboard I use, I get between 54 to 72 MB/sec parity check, but warning I've only had it up and running for about 4 days now.
  12. Motherboard:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136053 This motherboard is pretty great, it has a nifty little LCD display on the MB that shows an error codes while booting up. It showed that one of my old ram sticks I was going to reuse was bad and it wouldn't even boot, swapped that out. And then it would boot fine with no error code. I tried every bios config variation I could try and could never get it to boot with USB-FDD or USB-HDD, the flash drive was straight from tom. Using the method posted by brainbone http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2407.0 I was finally able to get my unraid pro server up and running. It's now configured and been up and running for 4 days, with 7x 500gb samsung drives. With about 600-700 GB transfered onto it.
  13. I'm using a DFI LP DK P45-T2RS PLUS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136053, it has 8 SATA ports, and I had to use the usb-zip formatting bat provided by brainbone http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2407.0 It's up and running for about 3-4 days now with no problems. Transfered over about 600 GB now.
  14. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703005 this a good price for this power supply? $90 After 20 dollar rebate.
  15. Yeah I'm mainly trying to decide which MB sata port to connect the parity drive to for best performance. As the 2x SATA ports connect via the pcie express bus, which is where the x4 pcie connects(furture x4 pcie adapter card w/4 HD's), and giga LAN connection. And then there's the 6x SATA connection that have 3Gb/S per port. I have a PCI LAN card which I think I'm going to use since its going into a 100 Mbps switch anyways, that way theres more open bandwidth on the express bus. So it's looking like connecting the Parity drive to 6x sata ports would be the best for performance. I haven't been able to find what exactly the bandwidth is on the express bus itself.
