***GUIDE*** Passthrough Entire PCI USB Controller
I have not. I was under the impression that was a bad thing to enable unless you absolutely have to. Please tell me that enabling that would put each of these controllers into their own iommu group. John

***GUIDE*** Passthrough Entire PCI USB Controller
Man I thought I was set to finally go ahead and do this and stop messing with hostdev bus/id which I have to use since I have 3 flircs. I have 8 USB ports on 8 separate controllers: 00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #4 00:1a.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #5 00:1a.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #6 00:1a.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #2 00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #1 00:1d.1 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #2 00:1d.2 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB UHCI Controller #3 00:1d.7 USB controller: Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller #1 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.7/usb1 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.7/usb2 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb3 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.1/usb4 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.2/usb5 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb6 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.1/usb7 ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.2/usb8 Looks awesome until I looked at my iommu groups: Sigh... New Emby Docker
What value should be assigned to EMBYSERVER_USER? The name of the account you use to manage Emby? John I wondered that and just left it as is and used my current appdata, loaded up just fine.... Strangely though, although the webui is defined in the xml I don't get a link to it in the dropdown box when I click on the icon (If you know what I mean) I see the same behavior. Weird. Still reachable though. Version 3.0.5785.0 John

OpenELEC VM Template Support
Hi Johnodon I'm also using a DP Supermicro board and following your success have decided to get hold of a MSI GT720. When I create the VM I'm getting no video output. I wondered if I could perhaps ask if you are using network bonding and what settings you used on the VM setup? The only way I can get video with the Nvidia cards I have is to set BIOS to OVMF. If i used Seabios I got no video at all (although others have not had this issue). I also had to set machine to i440fx 2.3 since I needed to set the disk to IDE (OVMF recognizes virtio but OE does not support it, and, OVMF didn't like SATA even though it would be fine in OE). John

[Plugin] Command Line Tools (Shell in a Box) for 6.1+
After I installed/enabled the plugin, I tried to open it and both Chrome and Edge give me a frowny face. At least Edge tells me: Content was blocked because it was not signed by a valid security certificate. So I figured I need to install the cert. When I click on that button, it navigates to http://192.168.1.10/boot/config/plugins/shellinabox-plugin/certificate-server.pem and I get 404 File not found What am I doing wrong?

OpenELEC VM Template Support
Hi, I dont have this problem, i installed my VM OE 6.0.0 from the generic guide. 1 cpu core and 1GB mem. The things that take time is if i browse in library mode, and start a movie, the disk needs to spin up. And then i pause the video to change resolution for 6-7sec. (The Samsung TV is so slow to change!) But after that everything is good, i can jump FFW or RWD with less than a sec delay. My files are packed in rar. so it need to unpack on the fly as well. I´m using SMB shares on my "tower". JoWe I can't understand why I am having this problem. SMB here for me also. Using the same exact install method, v5.0.8 works fine but v6.0.0 exhibits this behavior. I think I will try with a local MKV to rule out an SMB or MySQL issue. John

Is anyone else experiencing the issues below with OE v6 (either beta or final): - Media takes longer to load. i.e. with OE v5 when I click on a movie, it loads instantly. With OE v6, it takes ~ 3 - 4 seconds before playback begins. - Skipping forward/backward (long or short or chapter jumps) is just brutal. With OE v5, if I step forward a chapter or 30 seconds or whatever, it is instant. With OE v6 if I do the same, it takes 3 - 4 seconds for the jump to happen (sometimes longer). It is so bad, I cannot make multiple chapter jumps in a row. I have to wait for one to jump and then click another and so on. I experienced these same issues in all of the OE v6 betas and they were not corrected in OE v6 final. I am going back to OE 5.0.8 unless someone suggests a fix. John

Someone else will need to answer that since I don't use the LT template.

OK...you are using piotrasd's version.
-
OpenELEC VM Template Support
You are using the LT OE template? If so, you can't upgrade the way you normally would (copying SYSTEM and KERNEL files to the Update folder) because the official version does not have the tweaks needed to run OE in KVM. You will need to wait until LT releases a template that is updated to 6.0 final.

I have 3 HD6450's passed through to 3 separate OE VMs. They have worked flawlessly for their current purposes. The only issues I have encountered are: 1. No sound with TRUEHD or DTS-HD in passthrough even though both the video cards and my AV receiver support these formats. I think this is more of a linux issue though as everything works perfectly in windows. 2. If I shut down a VM unclearly (force stop), sometimes the vid card will not reset and the VM will crash on next start. Only a server restart fixes the issue. I do not know if this is purely an AMD issue. I also have a GTX 750 TI on the way and will put it through the paces. John

With the latest OE v6, I still get no sound if I enable TrueHD or DTS-HD even though my receiver supports those formats. John Have you tested this using the latest OE not in a VM? Curious if this is a OE issue or a VM issue. Not with 6.0 final...only 5.95.5. I'm pretty sure it is an OE issue though. I'll try 6.0 a little later today.

ISCSI Support
I came up with another use case for unRAID as an iSCSI target... I plan on building a dedicated WIN10 VM for HyperSpin. One of my wheels will be for PC Games. Since I have limited space on my cache pool (VM storage), I would love the ability to install games to an iSCSCI target on my array. John

If you disable "Adjust Refreshrate to match video" will that get you HD Audio? JoWe As far as I can see, that option is turned off by default and I don't turn it on. So, I am assuming that won't help in this case. BTW, I am having the same result with Mint + Kodi. Kodi on Linux defaults to PulseAudio which does not support TrueHD and DTS-HD so I has to start Kodi with Alsa enabled. However, just like OE, I can only see that HDA ATI, @@@ device and HD is not working. Just when I thought I was done with WIN. John

Sigh... So it is definitely an OE/Linux issue. My WIN8.1 plays and transcodes DTS-HD and TrueHD without any issue at all. Next I may try Ubuntu or Mint with Kodi installed to see if this is purely an OE issue but I don't have high hopes. John

Finally got around to playing a little more with the OE template HD audio passthrough and running into an issue. First, here are my config details... - OE template 5.95.3 - Vid card passthrough = Radeon HD6450 - 2 pinned CPUs - 2GB RAM - AV Receiver = Sony DN840 (supports DTS-HD and TrueHD) - Output = Mitsubishi HC1500 projector - HDMI 1.4 from vid card to amp and from amp to projector (via "video" input on amp which supports all current formats i.e. 4K) I have enabled passthrough in OE and enabled all supported formats (DTS, DD, DD Plus, DTS-HD and TrueHD). However, if I play a DTS-HD or TrueHD movie, I get no sound. The other formats work fine. From what I read here on the forum, you need to select the proper audio device as your default and passthrough device. The problem I have is that I only have one selection which is grayed out: HDA ATI, @@@ I have tried different combinations of using SeaBIOS and OMVF + vid card ROM files and not and nothing has helped. If I plug my WIN10 desktop with a Radeon 7770 into the AMP, I am able to select the proper audio device and DTS-HD and TrueHD are decoded without issue (so not an AMP issue). So, I am not sure if my issue lies with KVM, the HD6450, OE, or whatever. Here is some relevant info from the Kodi log: 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: Enumerated ALSA devices: 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: Device 1 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_deviceName : hdmi:CARD=HDMI,DEV=0 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_displayName : HDA ATI 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_displayNameExtra: @@@ 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_deviceType : AE_DEVTYPE_HDMI 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_channels : FL,FR,LFE,FC,BL,BR,BC,BLOC,BROC 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_sampleRates : 32000,44100,48000,88200,96000,176400,192000 20:05:34 T:139959590602624 NOTICE: m_dataFormats : AE_FMT_LPCM,AE_FMT_AC3,AE_FMT_DTS,AE_FMT_EAC3,AE_FMT_DTSHD,AE_FMT_TRUEHD,AE_FMT_S32NE,AE_FMT_S16NE,AE_FMT_S16LE,AE_FMT_AAC Any suggestions? In the meantime, I am going to build a WIN8.1 VM and passthrough the same vid card to it to see if I can rule out this being an OE/Linux issue. TIA, John

What do you use for metadata management?
I just read this in the feature list for TMM: Going to read now and see what the options are and if they can be called from either CP, Emby or other. John
-
What do you use for metadata management?
Here is my nirvana (considering I use Kodi and Emby clients)... - CP downloads a movie, renames it and moves it to my movie folder - Some program (whether it be Emby, CP or something else)... - scrapes ALL metadata, including People, and stores it in the location of the media files - notifies Kodi (headless) and Emby and each updates their libraries - I would still use Emby to scrape people (for its own purposes) Caveat: everything above must be handled in Docker container(s). CP seems to lack the ability to scrape People. Emby scrapes people but stores them locally. Plex...I'm not sure of the capabilities. Kodi will scrape People but stores them locally (hexen...I searched for Kodi to use a shared location for .actors but came up empty) All others mentioned are WIN based...no thanks. From what I have seen, TinyMediaManager handles metadata nicely (including saving People to the .actors folder), but, does only does so manually. There is no method to trigger an automatic scrape unless it can be done via some kind of script (which I have not yet researched). Am I asking too much? John
-
What do you use for metadata management?
What about People (actors, etc.)? I use Emby for media management but it stores People metadata in its config location which does Kodi absolutely no good. Somewhere along the way I was using another scraper that downloaded People to a .actors folder in the media location but cannot remember which one it was. Maybe MCM? That being said...if I browse a movie in Kodi that does not have a .actors folder, I am still able to view Cast pictures. Where is this data coming from? Is Kodi downloading from the internet on its own and storing locally? Where? John ps. I am an MCM customer but stopped using it some time ago since I moved away from WIN platforms completely for anything HTPC related. I would love to rely on CP and Sonarr for my only scraping solutions but from I can see, neither does People.

Been playing with PlexOE a little more. Now I remember an issue that was a deal breaker for me: hardware acceleration is not working. My CPUs are getting crushed. Which build did you use and how did you determine this? http://plexrpms.markwalker.dk/OpenELEC/3.2/OpenELEC-Plex-Generic-3.2.4-237-Plex-Home-Theater-1.4.1-47a90f0.x86_64.tar When I play Avatar bdrip, both CPUs are up in the 60% - 70% range. Playing the same media in OE 5.0.8, CPUs are 5% - 10%.

So...I just created a vanilla LT OE b3 VM and both VDPAU and VAAPI are enabled. Maybe I misunderstood. Did you disable it in the actual LT OE image that is downloaded, or, you just disabled it in your personal OE VM?
