  1. I typically use IP. I can get it to come up for a while after a reboot, but then lose connectivity. sometimes it comes back sometimes I have to power down a few times to get back in. Frustrating. When I get booted, if I try to connect again I will get an error that says 'This file server will not allow any additional users to log on. Try again later." It's only me logging on
  2. Yes. I don't do anything but store media and run Plex Media Server (direct connection, no transcoding).
  3. Here's the crazy part, I was just able to get my media player to play a video stored on the server, even though I cant connect via browser or telnet. WTF?
  4. a bit more info. since my last reply, I cannot access my server at all, neither web nor telnet. I happened to have an IMPI window open and was able to get the last bit of my syslog, which I think is telling me that my NIC is taking a crap. heres what I get from ifconfig (over IPMI): I have a SuperMicro X8SIL MB. I am really unsure of what I need to do to get function back, I have so little experience with hardware. so, here are a few questions: 1. Is my interpretation of the issue correct? Are there other tests I can do to narrow it down? 2. Since I'm in the middle of a parity check, and I do have the IMPI window up, is there a way to monitor the process from the console? 3. If not, is there a way to halt the parity check from the console so I can powerdown if I need to repair my network issue. 4. Is it really just as simple as getting an ethernet card and using the new NIC. Any suggestions for cards compatible with my MoBo?
  5. 1. Running now. 2. that's kind of what I thought 3. did memtest overnight with no errors. Also, no other indication of issues before the uppgrade I attached the diagnostics ZIP, I must admit I am not tech savvy enough to decipher the info. Is the network junk possibly an indication that my NIC is dying? Are there diagnostics for this? I have been a Mac person since 1984 so this is all uncharted territory for me. I really appreciate the help. Thanks. tower-diagnostics-20160206-1632.zip
  6. Thanks for the answer. I seem to be having random connection issues with v6 of UnRAID, everything will be working fine and then I try to access another page of the GUI and I get a 'connot connect to server 'Tower' message. I also don't see my shares exported, but they seem to be present if i telnet over to the server. weird. Never had anything like that happen w/ v5. in re: the permissions thing, this was on a completely clean reinstall.
  7. I've been having a bunch of difficulty with v6. I had a power outage the other day that corrupted my flash drive. I decided to take the opportunity to install v6. I started with a clean install and then added my new initial config. I went through a non-correcting parity check, which went off without a hitch. Today, in the process of getting Plex Media Server running again, I had trouble stopping the array - the disk unmounting would not complete and I had to telnet powerdown to get it stopped. After a reboot I was prompted to do a parity check due to unclean shutdown (?). That's when I noticed that the last info for a parity check was today (in reality it was yesterday) and it shows a bunch of errors. So, i have a few concerns: 1. Should I let it do a correcting parity check, I'm worried about the errors that I think are incorrect. Does the correcting parity check just rebuild parity from the data on the disks, or is there something else going on? 2. Is it better to do a non-correcting check first? 3. Are there some other things I should be checking before mucking about? I checked all the SMART data and don't see any issues with my drives. Also, I keep having connectivity issues with UnRAID. If I am checking things out with the WebGUI every so often, when switching pages, I get a 'cannot connect to server' error and cant get it back. Telnet in and everything looks fine, I can see all disks mounted etc.. Not really sure where to begin with this one. Sometimes switching to a different browser, or quitting and reopening the browser helps. I have never had that problem before switching to v6. I am on Mac OS X (10.6.8 ) Thanks for any help with this.
  8. I'm having some trouble getting PMS installed. I just upgraded to v6. started with a clean install and the array is up and running fine, parity check with no errors. Install the PMS plugin by copying link from OP, all looks good, settings page comes up with PMS NOT INSTALLED and waiting for config. Reboot. Head back to PMS settings and press install and the install process hangs. I have IPMI console open so I can see what's going on. (see Console DL error below) it seems to indicate that theres trouble DLing. So I go to Plex DLs get a copy of the txz, rename it to 'Plexmediaserver-PhAzE-0.9.15.2.1663-7efd046-x64.txz', put it in the config folder and reboot. Array comes up as expected, PMS settings page says NOT INSTALLED still, and log indicates (I think) that a dependency is missing. I figured the DL from Plex is what it's looking for. 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] ************************** 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Installing Plexmediaserver plugin 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] ************************** 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Checking for current bundle files 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Control file: Found correct version 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Dependency file: Not found 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Check OK! 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Locating and removing old bundle files 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Running install script for Plex Media Server 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Verifying plugin config file elements 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Verification OK! 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Installing control file 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Control file install OK! 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Removing Windows carriage characters from important files 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Cleaning up temp files and folders 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] ************************** 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] Install complete! 2016-02-06 11:34:24 [iNFO] ************************** Since I've been messing around with this for days, I thought I would touch base here. I must be missing something simple. My instict is to press the install button again, now that I have a good DL from Plex directly, but I'm not sure. p.s. I had the plugin working great under v5 forever. Update: I went ahead and installed again, and things seem OK. It did take 2 attempts to get settings to stick, and occ. the settings page does not see my internet connection (??) but seems to be working. <fingers crossed>
  9. Not attempting to hijack, as I'm having a very similar problem. Had a power outage that led to an unclean shutdown. Restarted my server, the GUI initially comes up, but when I try to start the array it seems to hang and then, eventually, becomes disconnected. I can reach it via telnet, and see all my mounted disks, but only the flash is accessible via SMB. I have attached the last syslog. Thanks for any help. update: Well I must have had some corruption in system files, or something. I took the plunge and upgraded to v6 - works like a charm, array came right up and I can access all shares normally. Now to see if I can get Plex Server to work again o_O syslog-2016-02-03.txt
  10. I'm in the exact same position, with the exact same concerns. Currently, using the Phaze plug-in so I believe I should be able to switch painlessly. Anyone have any trouble getting the Plex docker to play nice with an old Phaze plex library system? I think there is a Phaze v6 plug-in, is this easier to use than the docker. I have zero, zip, nada docker experience and using it is the scariest part of the upgrade, and the thing that's kept me from doing so yet.
  11. I am recently having the a similar issue. For some reason it appears that unmenu doesn't autostart for me anymore. When I get the gateway timeout I have to telnet in and start unmenu from the command line. Not really any other changes here, running 5.0.5. The next time it happens I'll have to check if the enumerated IP address works vs, tower:8080. Can anyone clue me in to getting unmenu to autostart again?
  12. Not an expert, by any means, but I'm not sure what virtualizing an OS gains you? The traffic still has to be routed to the VPN server and, I believe that, the latency of that transmission is what's causing your issues. Maybe try comparing a speed test of your broadband with/without the VPN active to see what kind of transmission degradation is produced by using the VPN. This may give you an idea if using the VPN is at all feasible.
  13. Just to be clear It's only when transferring files between shares or from the computer to the share. When accessing files on the server, with Plex, or a Music Player for example, they play fine, even high bit rate ones. It's really pretty unusable. I just checked and a 20 GB transfer from one disk share to another on the Yosemite machine was bouncing around between 1-2 hours, on the Snow Leopard machine it took about 20 min. Physically the machines are sitting right next to each other and plugged into the same switch. The Snow Leopard MAchine is th an Early 2008 MAcPro and the Yosemite machine is a late 2012 MacPro.
  14. Does anyone have a Mac that accesses unRAID using SMB and gets decent file transfer rates via the finder? I upgraded my main PC at Home (MacPro) to Yosemite (10.10.2) and now I only get about 1GB/5 min transfer. Needless to say I'm pulling my hair out. I have also never been able to get NFS to work since Mountain Lion. I do have another machine (Snow Leopard - 10.6.8 ) where SMB access works just fine, its about 10 times faster. Any idea what the problem might be? I've tried forcing CIFS access with no change (vs SMB2 or 3, whatever Apple is using).
  15. Funny you mention that - I tried to plug in an external HD for the first time ever and then, sometime later, I noticed that emhttp had hung. I'm pretty sure my motherboard (SuperMicro X8SIL) is too old to have USB 3.0, but I've been wrong before.
  16. Thanks for the tip. The flash is on a USB 2.0 slot directly on the motherboard. I'll check the syslog, if it ever happens again. I am not really a Linux person, so logs are all greek to me, but I can always get some help here.
  17. maybe try the new permissions script? I know the permissions seem OK, but OS X does not seem to play well 100% of the time.
  18. I had a situation yesterday where the pressing the button to stop the array did nothing and telnetting in to use the power down command did not work either. Is there some way to regain enough control to gracefully shut down under those circumstances? I eventually had to pull the plug, which of course leads to a forced parity check.
  19. Well, It turns out I was not able to shut down the array properly from the web GUI or via command line, so I had to pull the plug. Restarted and everything came up normally. The flash drive did not show any chkdsk errors. Not sure what happened.
  20. Is this something that can be done on OS X? Sorry, no PC available currently.
  21. When I went to change some settings for PLEX Media Server today (Phaze plugin) It came up as not installed and not running, as well as having default install location (the flash drive instead of my cache drive), like it was a fresh install that needed setting up and starting. I accessed the flash drive from the finder via SMB (I'm on OS X) and the flash drive shows as empty. Everything is acting as expected, however. My Plex clients can all see the PMS and UnRAID is chugging along as expected. Any idea what's going on here? I think I just probably need to restart the server and see where that gets me, but I'm in the middle of a fairly large data transfer, and prefer to wait until that's finished. While I'm waiting I thought to check with the hive mind here to see if there's something else i should do. Thanks for your inout.
  22. I thought that might be the case. The 'upgrade disk' in the array status line was confusing me, as it implies that the new disk is already seen as a replacement. Thank you, Gary, for the help you have delivered over the last few days, and threads of mine. p.s. everything is working fine fine, despite my slight screw up.
